If I have stopped taking escitolapram and want to start taking it again, and I want too tonight, will it affect my sleep? I have not drank any alcohol in the past two days and just wanted to ask Thank you - Paige ## Yes, it may cause sleep issues as a side effect, according to the FDA, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and weight changes. What has your doctor advised? Are you on any other medications? Why did you stop taking it?

My doctor put me on 10 mg of Lexapro after I started school and my anxiety was getting pretty bad. I have not ever had problems with depression besides the occasional sadness or bad day. Lexapro worked so well for my anxiety as soon as I started taking it. About a month into taking this drug I met the love of my life. I was very happy and life just seemed perfect. About 9 months later, I decided everything was going so well that I would stop taking Lexapro. For two weeks I cut my dose in half and then quit taking it cold turkey. Biggest mistake I have ever made. For the first couple weeks I felt great, still happy as ever, me and my boyfriend had had many conversations about getting married and making future plans for about the past 4 months. Then one day I woke up and it's like a s...

If I would've known how bad coming off Lexapro would be I would have never started. I was just starting college and I was very nervous. I'd heard about anxiety meds and thought this was the answer, I saw my dr and he immediately prescribed me Lexapro 10 mg. about a month on the medication I met the love of my life. My anxiety was low, I was doing great in school and I had finally met a man I was beyond crazy about and couldn't wait to start our lives together. About 7 months later things were still great so I decided I'd try to quit Lexapro. I halved the pills for about 2 weeks and then quit cold turkey. Everything was okay for about the first month besides my anxiety being a little worse. I still loved life and me and my bf were planning on getting married in a few mont...

I've been taking Lexapro for over 10 yrs and don't like being dependent on it - has anyone successfully stopped their dependence on this drug? ## Many people have successfully stopped taking it, it's really a matter of doing so properly. If you're not replacing it with a similar medication, it should be tapered slowly to avoid the worst of the withdrawal symptoms and your doctor should be able to help you set up an appropriate tapering schedule. The FDA lists the typical withdrawal effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, chills, fever, diarrhea, rebound depression and anxiety. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hey there, I was on 20mg of lexapro a day for 3 years. Went (kinda) cold turkey. So glad I did. The month leading upto it I actually started skip...

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

Taking the escitalipram 20 mg I became irritable and suicidal. Now I'm having terrible withdrawals . I take Evekeo for ADHD but still need an antidepressant . Anyone know what will work that's not an SSRI ## Hello, Jen! How are you? There are several other options that might help you, such as SNRI antidepressants, tricyclic antidepressants, some antipsychotics and some anticonvulsants. The FDA lists many of the side effects profiles as being very similar and possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight changes and dry mouth. It's really a matter of working with your doctor to find the one that works best for you. Does anyone else have any advice or suggestions to offer?

I've been diagnosed with PTSD, Panic DIsorder with agoraphobia and Major Depression Disorder. Those like me tend to be very sensitive to brain meds because our brain's circuitry is wired to notice every little nuance of sensory changes. This chronic vigilance becomes both exhausting AND psychologically necessary for self-preservation. That's a trap. In other words we're used to being on guard but we need to not be on guard--anything that attempts to adjust this will cause paradoxical effects. So for example Xanax may initially cause agitation or anxiety as it switches the brain from on guard to calm. Calm is not familiar therefore psychologically it triggers anxiety while the med is doing what it's supposed to do. Lexapro targets the cerebellum and the thalamus--acco...

Hi all! I've been on Lexapro for 5 1/2 weeks (2.5 on 10 mg and 2.5 on 15mg) for generalized anxiety disorder. The first time I started taking Lexapro I took 10 mg and it worked fantastically, I then stopped taking it because I felt so great (rookie mistake). This time around I feel like it's doing a lot less to manage my anxiety. I'm certainly better than I was 5 1/2 weeks ago but not where I'd like to be. Should I give it more time or try taking something else? I'm not thrilled of the process that comes along with switching medications. Thanks in advance for the help! ## If it's been over 5 weeks and it's not helping as much as it should, then that likely means you need to try something else. The general rule is that it should reach its level of therapeutic ...

My 17 yr old takes Lexapro for anxiety. Over the last several months we have had a problem with him and compulsive behavior such as stealing things. Has anyone had this experience as well ? This was not a problem before the meds ## Yes, there have been other reports of people experiencing this while taking it. It is actually well known that medications used to treat certain conditions can actually cause them in some people, though the reason why they do so isn't clearly understood. Learn more Lexapro details here. It likely means that it isn't the right medication for him to take and he will need to be switch to something else, so you should report this to his doctor. Has he shown signs of any other side effects? ## No he has not really shown any other unusual behavior that seem...

Small white pill approximately 8mm in diameter with "20" imprinted on one side and a splitting line on the other with no other imprints. ## Hi. I also found one of these pills but had no luck on the pill ID websites. After some digging though I found that these are generic lexapro 20 mg. You can google search "generic lexapro 20mg images" and it should be one of the first to pop up. Hope this helps!

Hi there, I accidentally took 40mg of lexapro and am feeling very tired and sleepy. Is there anything I should do? Has anyone else done this and what were their side effects? ## How are you? Did you experience any other adverse effects? When you make such a mistake and are experiencing such symptoms, it is always better to contact your doctor, poison control or your nearest emergency services department. While there are those of us online that are always happy to help, there's nothing we can do if your life would be in danger. The FDA lists the typical overdose symptoms as possibly including nausea, severe drowsiness, hypotension and shallow breathing.

I'd been on 10 mg. Lexipro for about 3 years and felt great. But then my doctor switched me over to generic Celexa because the clinic where I get my meds no longer has Lexipro available (Forest Pharmaceuticals no longer supplies it due to costs). Since switching to Celexa, I feel awful - nervous, uptight, and obsessive. I want to try generic Lexapro because I can afford it, but I hear it's not as good as the name brand. Anyone had any luck with it? ## Hello, When it comes to generic medications it is permitted by the FDA to be allowed to contain as much as 20% more or less of the actual active ingredient as well. For some people, these so-called subtle differences are the equivalent of taking a completely different medication that may be absorbed and metabolized differently with...

I started on 10mg of Lexapro exactly a month ago for generalized panic disorder. My first week on it was AWFUL. Really bad side effects. My anxiety was extremely heightened, I felt like I was crawling out of my skin, awful headaches, I was so tired, could barely get out of bed. My psychiatrist prescribed me .5mg of ativan to take as needed every 8 hours for when I'm feeling extra anxious so that made me even more tired once I was getting used to it. On my 8th day or so, the side effects started to ware off more and more every day. I am now a month in, I don't have all those side effects anymore and the ativan doesn't make me sleepy, but my anxiety isn't any better than it was before I started on the medication. I'm still avoiding going places, I feel extremely down a...

I took 5 mg last night and can't function today. My legs feel like Jello and I had to leave work. The doctor says it will take time for my body to get used to it, but I have 2 kids and things to do. How do people take this and have a regular life? ## Hello, Shaewest! Sorry about the side effect you experienced. There are many people that take it and lead a normal life, but that doesn't necessary mean that it's the right medication for you. If it was so severe that you had to leave work, then you should likely have another discussion with your doctor about trying something different. Side effects should be mild and transient, they shouldn't be so severe that they cause this type of issue. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I actually just started on Lexapro a mont...
