Lexapro Side Effects
UpdatedI have been on Lexapro 10mg for 4 days.. Terrible nausea, diarrhea, clenching jaw. Has anyone felt this? Also my hands are lightly shaking. Wondering when it will stop? I do not feel better yet at all. I was prescribed it for depression and major anxiety.

HI, Kelly! Sorry that you're feeling so awful.
Side effects that severe are not normal and you should contact your doctor as soon as possible. I think this just may not be the right medication for you to take.
Some mild nausea and diarrhea are normal, but not severe nausea and the clenching jaw can sometimes be the sign of a severe reaction.
I had the same reaction, even to the point of possibly being hypomanic, but I enjoyed it. my pupils dilated, sweat constantly, became shaky, felt like I had the flu....it all subsides and i felt better within a week :)
m exactly the same its like somekind of drug in my blood my hands are shaking i feel like i have confidence to do everyting it has been 2 months like this i was using drugs before i thought this is some kind of side effect but it didnt go away so i started to panic now i have panic disorder and im having panic attacks there was only one time i felt normal and down but it only lasted 10 minutes i seriously dont know what am i gonna do mania mixed with panic is just the worst nightmare lol
I'm on lexapro for 10 days and the worst is that I'm sleepy all day (very strange feeling because mixed with excitement). I had nausea but it passed away. my hands sometimes shake. but I also feel more confident and eager to do many things. I hope that the sleepiness will pass away because I do not imagine going back on classes yawning all the time. I give this medicine 2 months to start working right (I mean I just hope it will start working cause I will not do anything without my doctor's permission).
I've been on lexapro 3days. Have some jaw clenching at times. Still some racing thoughts. But other than that its perfect. Love it. Dr told me to start at 10mg but since I've also had celexa in the past and knew what it did for the first month(which was horrible) I decided to take 5mg just incase but since its working so great I'm going to 10mg tomorrow morning. No real side effects nothing that wasn't there with anxiety (slight jaw clenching, some nasuea) if its effecting you bad cut back to 5mg for a week then bump up to 10mg. Trust me this drug is much cleaner and easier than some others. My anxiety is soooo much better in just three days. I did have some worry about taking it due to some of the side effects it could have and due to on celexa it raised my anxiety and threw me into panic attacks for a month. But I'm glad I fought my fear. Ill keep you all updated
I've been on Lexapro 10mg for anxiety/panic for 16 days now. I almost gave up. I was so tired I had to be late to work several days, sleep at lunch and go to bed early. I got more anxious than normal the first week and had a terrible headache. On day 8 I called my doc and he said we could try something else but we'd just be starting over and there's no way to tell if another med will have the same/less/worse side effects. Day 9 my ears began to ring and I called again on day 10. The doc sent a script over and I had planned to get it the next day. Somehow I actually got about 6 hours of sleep and felt decent on day 11. I stuck it out. Every day since has been better and better. I feel like the constant thinking in my head has slowed down and Im calmer inside when I think about certain situations that might make me anxious. Im still waiting a few more weeks to feel the full effect of the Lexapro, but im hopeful. I hope this helps anyone having a hard time with side effects.
I have been taking lexapro for 9 days now, I am so dizzy I can barely stand up, I feel like I will fall whether I'm sitting or standing or even laying down is this normal?
I've been on the generic Lexapro at 10mg for five days now, for depression and anxiety. I've tried other antidepressants in the past but they made me feel worse. I almost gave up on this one today but my doctor and family talked me into giving it another week. I have ringing ears and feel somewhat jittery but my depression today is somewhat better. I'm hoping this will do the trick!
I have been on Lexapro for about 5 weeks. Another crazy symptom - Has anyone found that they have been putting things in the wrong place? My cognition has really been affected by this medication.
I've been taking Lexapro since the end of 2014. Haven't had any side effects but have started to have some brain zaps that wake me when I'm asleep. Has anyone else experienced brain zaps from taking Lexapro for a long period of time?
Re: Stephleigh20 (# 7)
I have been on it for 2 weeks and I have dizziness and really dry mouth. Due to dizziness I take my pill at bedtime.
I weaned off of Lexapro after a year and my annoying 2-3x per night getting up to pee instantly stopped. Now I sleep straight through 7 hours. Anybody else have this problem?
I've been on Lexapro for several months. My dose was increased a month ago and now I feel mild itching on my body. Has anyone else experienced that?
I was on Paxil for 3 weeks and stopped and was put on Lexapro 10mg the next day. I did good for 3 weeks but am now staying nauseous 24/7. Is this common?
Call 911 after this kind of reaction. If your hands are shaking this is typical for this dangerous "wonderdrug". I say that because after 3 months and 17 911 panic attacks I decided no more or I was going to commit myself. Doctors are certainly "practicing".
Re: Alina (# 3)
Me too! People on Methadone and benzos (small dose .5 x2 daily) can't handle the increase in Seratonin. It caused me massive panic attacks. 17 in 3 months. 17 911 calls....but my Psychiatrist is too stupid to realize it? He ended up doubling my clonopin which is what he was trying to phase out with Lexapro. He is the senior Psychiatrist in a major HMO around the DMV. I have serious concerns that he has no idea what he is doing except trying to get people off of benzos...because the CDC and the DEA came put with new guidlines. Guidlines that almost killed me with a pulse of 260 and seized on Lexapro. Never again.
Re: Justin (# 5)
I fought panic attacks for 3 months. 17 911 calls. It was a nightmare. There is a 988 number now for things like this but I never ever felt crazy like this.
Re: PK (# 13)
Yes. I am glad you mentioned that. It was like I had chiggers or Fleas. Horrible. Then I started itching my neck. Freaking wounds all over my body. Thank God I stopped taking it.
