Lexapro And Impulsive Behavior

My 17 yr old takes Lexapro for anxiety. Over the last several months we have had a problem with him and compulsive behavior such as stealing things. Has anyone had this experience as well ? This was not a problem before the meds

Yes, there have been other reports of people experiencing this while taking it. It is actually well known that medications used to treat certain conditions can actually cause them in some people, though the reason why they do so isn't clearly understood.

It likely means that it isn't the right medication for him to take and he will need to be switch to something else, so you should report this to his doctor.

Has he shown signs of any other side effects?

No he has not really shown any other unusual behavior that seems to be the problem at this time.

Google Dr. Peter Breggin. He is an expert in this and can state case after case of very similar behavior related to antidepressants. It's eye opening! My son had a similar response. Very common in fact!
