I've been on 50 mcg of Levothyroxine for about two years (went off it for several months this past year but went back on it). Lately it feels like my heart is beating stronger and sometimes it beats somewhat faster. Taking a hot shower triggers rapid pounding heart beat. These symptoms come and go and seem to be helped if I drink a lot of water. It also seems to help if I get to bed at a decent hour and get enough sleep and eat the right foods and enough of them. The slightest amount of everyday stress can make my heart start beating in the way described. I've been sedentary quite a bit and getting exercise (Walking for 20 minutes) can be a challenge since I lack energy. Also I have been feeling anxiety and depression...
I am on levothyroxine, linzess, omeprazole, ospemifene and (topiramate 2x daily). How am I supposed to space these medications apart so that I receive the full benefit from each one? I wake up for work at 3am and typically retire for the night at 9pm. Thank for your help. ## The best person to ask is your Pharmacist, Always! ## Yes your pharmacist is a good source.
I'm changing from Armour Thyroid to generic Levothyroxine. Any feedback as to the quality of the manufacturer, Amneal? I'm a little dizzy, and my eyes hurt and are very dry. ## They are a reputable manufacturer, but Armour Thyroid and Levothyroxine are not exactly the same, though they do treat the same conditions, so it is normal that you may experience some side effects, when you first switch. Other side effects to Levothyroxine may include weight changes, nausea, and loss of facial hair. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? ## I changed from Amour Thyroid to Nature-Throid. Amour changed the inert ingredients and I became allergic to them. I am now on Nature-Throid and it is excellent. ## I have found that I can only take the Mylan brand for some reason. Pharmacy...
I had a thyroidectomy in 1988 for a non-toxic goiter and began taking Synthroid and then levothyroxine. In 2018 I had another thyroidectomy because the thyroid gland grew back. I'm now taking 1.50 mcg of the medication. I recently checked the monograph and discovered that this medication can cause osteoporosis. I was diagnosed with this in May of 2018 during a bone scan preceding the thyroid surgery. Has anyone else had a diagnosis of osteoporosis while taking levothyroxine? I'm pretty surprised that I would have this ailment even though I'm 75. I've never been a thin woman which seems to be the person who most often gets osteoporosis. ## No, but I feel so weak my bones, so much pain namb . :( I feel levothyroxine it’s the trigger of all my symptoms. Diagnosed 5 mo...
I think this is the mexican version of levo throxine 100 mcg. ## I think they also call it that in South America. Maybe if you check the page on Levothyroxine you might be able to find out useful informations. ## I take 75 mcg of levothyroxin daily and was able to get sintrocid/levotiroxina sodica in Mexico. Am I going to be taking the same medication? ## Yes, this is the Spanish name for Levothyroxine, they should be equivalent, as long as the dosage is the same. However, foreign medications are not always FDA approved and regulated, so you do need to be careful as it may not meet U.S. purity and potency standards, which is why I stated 'should be equivalent". There is no way to know more, without more details. Do you have any other information, such as markings on them, or the...
Yesterday, I had an appointment with a brand new doctor that is in another state. He wrote me a prescription for a month supply of my medication and after stopping at and calling approximately 35 different pharmacies attempting to get the medication filled, I was given the name of a pharmacy by a very kind gentleman that had experienced the same problem. The medication I take is unfortunately very hard to get a prescription filled for if your doctor is not within your state and I live basically on the border of two other states, MD and PA. I called the pharmacy I was given the name of and indeed they did agree to fill the prescription. I inquired about acceptance of my insurance before going to the pharmacy and they stated that yes they did accept insurance and they would run the medica...
I had thyroid cancer and had a TT in 2017. I've been on Levothyroxine 150mcg for almost a year. The pills have always been light blue colored and round with a stamp of jsp on one side and 520 on the other side of them. I recently switched pharmacy and just opened them to discover the label says Levothyroxin 150 mcg tab Santos. They are blue, oval and say 150 on one side and GG 338 on the other. They look NOTHING alike and are not called the same. There was plenty of room on label, so its not that there wasn't room for the 'e' at the end. Am I taking the same stuff? It's been hell getting my levels right and I have nodules growing again and monitoring my antibodies for the cancer. I cannot afford to be on a lesser effective drug. Are these the same? They sure look tot...
Can Eliquis, Digoxin, and Diltiazem all be taken at the same time as my Levothyroxine? I have been taking my Calcium 1 hour later. ## Hello Aud, There are 3 interactions between the medications that you are taking. I have listed the interactions below. Diltiazem -> Digoxin You may need dose adjustments in order to safely take both medications together. This combination of drugs may increase your digoxin levels. You should notify your doctor if you have symptoms of nausea, loss of appetite, visual changes, slow pulse, or irregular heartbeats. Digoxin -> Levothyroxine You may need dose adjustments in order to safely take both medications together. This combination of drugs may decrease your digoxin levels. Diltiazem -> Apixaban This combination of medication may increase the b...
I had a total throdectomy 2 years ago due to thyroid cancer. I have been on 150 - 200mg Levothyroxine daily. Side effects are - now and again my heart will beat once really hard, when i wake up my hands feel numb and fingers tingle, get dizzy/drunk feelings, dry itchy skin, dry sore eyes, stomach pains and constipation. Sometimes i feel like i am turning into a hypercondreact. Does anyone else feel like this? I am due another blood test next month. ## yes I have many of the same reactions as you. I have been on this med.. for about 15 years ## Fast heartbeat is one the more serious side effects while taking levothyroxin. Although all your other side effects are reported normal. If you feel concerned I would speak with your doctor that prescribed you levothyroxine, and let he/she know al...
I have been taking 25mg of this crap for almost a year. Im 28 over weight and wondering if stoping this med suddenly with my docs concent is dangerous. Im gaining weight and not feeling any better. I also take colonzipam for anxiety metroprol for high bp and Norco for back pain im a smoker and weigh 290 before I only weigh ed 260 me and my doc are exploring the fact that I may not need this med at all or i need a different kind. So he said to stop for 2 months should i be worried about this decession? ## No, it is nothing to worry about. Your doctor isn't trying to steer you wrong. What have the test shown for your TSH results? That is what would let you know whether or not you need such a medication. ## First get some blood tests done. Get T4, T3 and TSH measured at least. If they ...
When I had my prescription for levothyroxine 75 refilled recently I immediately noticed a strange smell. Can you please tell me what it is? ## Hello, Joyce! How are you? What are the markings on them? The excipients in tablets can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Can you please post back and clarify? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, hair loss, and weight changes. ## I noticed the same strange odor. I returned 2 bottles Sandoz Lavothyroxin because the pills in the bottles smelled. Does anyone know why? ## too have a vile taste and smell that permeates my very being! I've been taking three different meds since May 2, 2018, Levothyroxine, Levoxyl, and Armour trying different ones to no avail. I have no taste ever except fo...
What are the benefits of thyronorm over levothyroxine? Do the symptoms like hair fall continue even after starting medication? ## They are the same, one is just a brand name and the other a generic name of the active ingredient. And yes, hair loss is a typical side effect of this medication, as reported by the U.S. FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight changes. Are you on any other medications? ## I took thyronorm for 26 years and switched to Levothyroxine after coming to the United States. Can you tell me whether it’s safe to proceed with Levothyroxine or move back to thyronorm? I have noticed a change in mood swings, hair loss as well as depression frequently with Levothyroxine. ## what does anyone know about Armour? I still have the v...
I have been on levo for 2 1/2 years. Started at 75 for about a year and a half. I got a new dr and dose was upped to 100, then 125 for last six months. I have also been dealing with menopause, I THINK. In the last 5 months I have had trouble falling asleep, jittery, nervous energy. I have worked outdoors in the heat with no problems. Now that I look back, I have had a hard time in the heat since I started levo. A couple months ago I weaned off of cymbalta and after those withdrawals were over, I started getting naseau and migraine. Has anyone else experienced heat problems? And is there a natural med for hypothyroidism? ## Hi Lisa, Sorry to hear about your situation. According to the US National Library of Medicine, "sensitivity to heat" is listed as a serious side effect of Lev...
hypothyroid ## Hello, According to the National Institute of Health levothyroxine sodium tablets are indicated as a replacement therapy in primary (thyroidal), secondary (pituitary), and tertiary (hypothalamic) congenital or acquired hypothyroidism. For general informational purposes I have included below some information on this medication. This medication comes in the form of tablets, oral liquid, powder and injections. The NIH lists the following as potential adverse reactions to the medication. General: fatigue, increased appetite, weight loss, heat intolerance, fever, excessive sweating Central nervous system: headache, hyperactivity, nervousness, anxiety, irritability, emotional lability, insomnia Musculoskeletal: tremors, muscle weakness, muscle spasm Cardiovascular: palpitations...
Recently filled a prescription for Levothyroxine 150 mcg and noticed a very fowl smell and ultimately a slightly different taste when taking it. One side of the pill is marked with "150" and the other side with "GG338." We questioned the pharmacist about this and they opened a new bottle that smelled the same to us, but she didn't smell anything so nothing was done. I know Levoxyl was discontinued for a while for this very problem. Is there any information out there about this Sandoz product? ## If you had a chance to read the FDA recall information, the odor it was recalled for was actually due to a problem with the absorbent canister that was packaged in the bottles, not the pills themselves. However, the odor was not found to cause any adverse health issues, or pr...
I was recently prescribed an ultra high dose (300mcg and climbing) by my psychologist for a mood disorder. I guess this is a relatively new treatment. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts, stories or warnings about this? ## What is the mood disorder? I've never heard of this, but I will ask my psychologist why a person would take it, next time I see him. ## High doses have been used to treat some cases of Bipolar Disorder. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight changes, and hair loss. How are you doing on it? Has it helped? ## This is a medication for Hypothyroid disorder (Underactiv thyroid). It seems strange to prescribe this for a mood-disorder. 300mcg (microgram) of Levothyroxine will put your heart and whole body in...
I had been on the same levothyroxine prescription for about 25 years. In the last 3 years my medication has had to be readjusted 3 times. Now I am back on a lower dose and wanted to know if I can still use the previous, leftover supply that has expired about 1-2 years ago? ## Hello, Laurene! How are you? Medications tend to lose effectiveness over time and since treating a thyroid disorder is so touchy, it would be best to dispose of the expired ones and obtain a new supply. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, hair loss and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for your feedback on using expired levothyroxine., ## What effects would I feel if taking expired thyroxine ## whats the side effects i...
Hi there. Why has my doctor prescribed both Carbimazole and Levothroxine to be taken on the same day? ## How were your thyroid levels? Sometimes, multiple medications might be prescribed to help lower levels as fast, and as safely as possibly. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight changes, mood changes, and hair loss.
I was diagnoised with hypothyroidism last December and was put on Levothyroxine (75mcg). Overall I have been feeling better and have more energy. But unlike most other people with underactive thyroids I was not overweight and since going on Levothyroxine have lost 10 pounds and am continuing to lose weight. I also have developed hoarseness which gets worse as the day goes on. Question-the weight loss is a common side effect of the medication-but has anyone heard of hoarseness? My thyroid levels were tested a few weeks ago and are now normal. ## Yes, I have noticed sore throat and hoarseness also on generic levothyroxine 75mcg. I finally tried not taking it for a couple of days and the sore throat and hoarseness went away. Started taking it again and voila, the sore throat and hoarseness...
