Levothyroxine Is Satan (Page 8) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI don't feel so confused anymore. Now I know all of you are going through the same thing. My doctor put me on 50mcg of Levothyroxine about a month ago and I have gain 8 pounds! I get short-breathed and winded REALLY easily when working out. I used to go to the gym for 2 hours, now I can't make it longer than 30 minutes. I wake up ALL the time with tingly fingers because my hands have fallen asleep. I have headaches, I feel 100 times more lazy than before...and it's supposed to help your energy, not drain it. I e-mailed my doctor today, this is not making me happy. Not to mention I now have an acne type rash that burns like hell on my chin and I've always had clear skin. If this drug is supposed to make you feel better it sure as sh*t isn't working for me. I feel like a fat lazy a$$ with an itchhy burning rash on my face... stay away from this drug, that's my suggestion. :(
Hello again, well I had to start taking Levo again but decreased my dose of 100mg to 50mg and do feel somewhat better, I don't get anymore hypo's when out walking and wake earlier now at 7am. But sleeping is still poor and constipation is chronic. Went to see the Endocrinologist who refused to subscribe me T3 so I have gone ahead and ordered it from a reputable Mexican company at just £41 for 3 months supply. As it 4x as powerful as Levo I shall initially take a quarter of a tablet twice a day and see what happens. I need to lose the 2 stone I have put on since starting the levo.
Wish me luck :)
Hello, been off my levothyroxine for over a week now due to a uptake comming up. I was wondering if anyone has had withdrawal symptoms after a couple weeks or days. I actually feel 10x better off. I've been on levothyroxine since 2012 and i d'ont know if my body just got burned out, or its some other underlying problem which is where the radiation test comes in. Tired of "normal" test ranges but feeling like crap and gaining weight.
I was put on it a month ago and have gained 14 pounds with even going to the gym 5 days s week. I can't sleep right, breath right, I eat like a pig anymore. It's just terrible :(. I've always been at a healthy weight and now I'm considered over weight :*(
Before I started on levothyroxine I had acne on my cheeks, my chin, and next to my eyes and my neck. I was severly short of breath with heart racing at times. These problems are still there after starting levothyroxine but it can take years for all the damage from a low thyoid level to be repaired. WHY? Because they start you out on the lowest dose for safety reasons. Then gradually increase it every 6 months. It can take years before you are on enough of the horomone to make you feel good. I am an RN. I will be taking this med for the rest of my life because once you start taking it then eventually your thyroid will get lazy and stop working. There are 4 brands of Synthroid and if one brand bothers you find out from pharmacy what brand you were given and get a different brand instead til you find one that has less side effects, but some side effects are just due to the topsy turvy levels of horomones you experience at first. Your body is still making a little horomone and that is why lowest dose is prescribed but your amount of horomone can go up or down for years til you are on correct dose and your thyroid has stopped making horomone
I've been on Levothyroxine since I was 25 yrs old & I am now 56. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's 7 yrs ago & have osteopenia, vit D def, scoliosis, chronic constipation, chronic cough, runny nose, acid reflex, weak ankles, low energy, had hysterectomy for heavy period, dry mouth, TMJ, facial pain, weakening eyesight & hearing, itchy throat, sore wrists, bad breath, bleeding gums, vaginal dryness & October 2013 was diagnosed with Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia which is a precancer of the breast & had 10 biopsies, a lumpectomy & am now considered high risk for breast cancer. Has anyone heard of Stop The Thyroid Madness because I truly believe thismed will slowly kill us all.
Hi there, i just read your post. Are you able to email me some details?
Hi was this message meant for me, as I did post something up here, to show how T3 has changed my life. My email is, {edited for privacy}
Thanks Margriet.
Wow, can you please tell me what you are taking?
PLEASE SEND ME INFORMATION THAT BROUGHT YOU HEALING FROM FIBROMYALGIA/ETC THAT WAS GIVEN TO YOU BY YOUR BFF.
Would also really appreciate info on natural way to care for hypothyroidism, fibromialgia, chronic fatigue etc.
Yes, this message was for Margiet. What are you taking for thyroid that has helped you so much? I think I have tried everything with bad results.
Oh my gosh is all I can say, just got changed from cytamol to 200mcgs of this medicine ive done gained 15 lbs from the cytamol but needed that weight back don't need any moreMy first dose as when I picked it up from the pharmacy within the hour my heart started pounding I cant stand to feel like crap much more so il give it 2 weeks if I see any side effects like some have thats commented on this forum il be calling the old doc back, im laughing in my head because I was so easily convinced I needed to be on thus medicine, it certainly pays to research medicine snd especially forums like this one was honestly hoping I would read these comments and everyone say "oh I feel so great, gave my energy back and can remember things again" well hope this dont give me no face rash or the doctor can have it back!!!
Liz, can you tell me what came out of that report from Health Canada. I've been on this med for over 30 years & I am diagnosed with something new all the time, the latest oct/13 -precancer cells in breast & feb/14 possible serious lung disease ....going through various tests.....heart disease....also going through tests.
I believe this drug being synthetic will kill you over time. Some of the things I've been diagnosed with since being on this med:
Vit D def, Osteopenia, scoliosis, 2 liver hemangiomas, Hashimoto's, wrist pain, chronic constipation, low blood pressure, problems with eye sight & hearing, trouble swallowing, indigestion, acid reflex, weak ankles, facial pain, TMJ, sinus problems, chronic cough, ongoing bronchitis that never seems to fully go away, feeling overly cold or hot, sweating, low blood pressure, etc, etc.
So I'm facing possible life threatening disease as well as ongoing physical symptoms that are not helped with the med. I feel the med Levothyroxine has actually caused all of these problems.
I'd appreciate hearing from you. I too live in Canada.
Good to see at least one happy story. Literally have only taken two tablets and am petrified now. I was diagnosed two days ago. Didn't have any other symptoms other than being over weight. Scared now... Headaches bad skin insomnia... no thanks
Hi, I have been to Sydney for 3 months and enjoyed constant sunshine, a very good diet and done brisk walking for 2 hours plus a day. On my return I saw the endocrinologist who was simply amazed, I told him I felt really good. He sent me for blood tests to see if he could lower my levo to 75mg. He told me in rare cases a thyroid can restart itself, telling me the combination of everything but especially the brisk walking had given optimum results. I lost 4 kilo's out there without really trying, I feel so much better, its true :)
You may be on a too high dose
I ended up in the er with severe heart palpitations three times in six months. Also tiredness and severe weight loss. I am small as it is but I looked anorexic it scared me.
Now my dose had been altered and so far so good ask your doc to reevaluate you
Good luck
Hi. I have been on 50mg for about 8 months. I used to weigh about 49 to 50 kg. Since I've been on this medication I have gained about 6 kg. Will this ever stop? I am thinking of stop taking it. What is the point of being on it and gaining weight. Will it help if I go on the 25mg?
Synthroid is levothyroxine so it's the same thing. There is a dessicated thyroid called Thyroid by ERFA of Canada. I am going to try that because I have been feeling awful on Eltroxin and Synthroid which are both levothyroxine but different brands. I was on Eltroxin for about 20 years then in March I got some weird side effects. High blood pressure, pains in my legs, I have never been able to sleep for more than three or four hours. Since going on Synthroid I have had pounding pulse all over my body, a twitching eye and stiff sore muscles. Doctors don't believe these side-effects. The Dr. I saw today said to just go off it and see what happens over the next month. I'm not sure I trust what she says, I will just have to monitor how I feel and start on the Thyroid if I feel too bad. They must have changed suppliers for the levothyroxine or something because I have had some really bad side effects.
