Levothyroxine And Synthroid
UpdatedI was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in August last year the dr did the level blood work and SONAGRAM on the thyroid and came back positive for it was put on levothyroxine 50 mg I developed every side effect of it except my throat didn't close ,he then put me on name brand synthyroid and my skin on hands started to peel and broke out in a rash synthroid was 25 mg once a day then we did one half tablet twice a day , same side effects as 1x daily so now off of everything the dr stated I must have a sensitivity to the ingredients of these meds ,so now I am untreated I am 67 yrs old woman but still having all the side affects of the hypothyroidism I suggested to maybe go a natural way to deal with it but he stated no . But in the meantime having all these hypo systems is keeping me housebound . Four hrs of sleep a nite , anxiety, stress, anxious, hot and cold feelings, dizziness, confusion, retention is low , attention span low , dry eye symdrome, you name it have it . I just don't know what to do . Doesn't anyone have any suggestions for me? We don't know know which ingredient I am sensitive to . But have lived with all these symptoms since August of last year . I don't know my readings of my blood work , but if this is a the way I have to live for the rest of my life, it is a terrible life to live with. Any help please or suggestions if anyone could offer I am at my wits end I would greatly appreciate it . I do a drink of mixing nuts and kale and berries everyday but the symptoms still prevail.

Hello, Dorothy! I am so very sorry about the issues you've had to deal with. Are you on any other medications? Has there been any change?
As to trying a natural remedy, or anything else, have you considered seeking a second opinion? This medication is manufactured by several different companies, since Levothyroxine is a generic. Thus, they do not all contain the same inactive ingredients, so if you are allergic to one of them, a different one might work for you.
If you doctor hasn't told you the details of your blood work, I have to say that is also weird. They are your medical records, and you are always entitled to know the details of any tests, or exams you have done, as well as what is noted in your records. That is a law under the FDA. and other regulatory health agencies. It is free to have them sent to another doctor for a second opinion, or if you switch to a different doctor, though they are allowed to charge you if you want your own copies of your medical records. Generally they charge a certain fee for the first so many pages, then a few cents for each additional page.
The typical side effects of this medication are listed by the FDA as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight changes, mood changes, and hair loss.
But honestly, my best suggestion would be to seek a second opinion.
