Lercanidipine Pulse Rate Side Effect
UpdatedFor me, today is day 8 of taking lercanidipine 10mg pills. I get a side effect. When I eat a meal after taking a pill, my pulse rate goes up to 80 per minute, and takes between 2 and 3 hours to go back to normal, 65. I do not eat too soon after taking a pill; I wait at least an hour. I worry that the 'racing heart' side effect combined with my high blood pressure - typically 160/110 at present - will give me a heart attack or stroke. Should I continue to take the pills? Will the side effect go away eventually? Of course, I will ask my doctor for advice, but I would be pleased to get other opinions.

Avoid taking the Lercanidipine with fatty meals.
It increases the bodies absorbtion of the drug.
Take it at least 30 minutes before a meal.
Try taking the Lercanidipine halfway between meals.
Try eating food with less fat.
Hello, Al! How are you?
It is normal for your pulse to go up, after eating, because of the effects eating has on the vagus nerve and 80 bpm is not a dangerous level for most people.
I have high blood pressure and usually run in the 80's, my doctor doesn't worry about it.
If you're concerned, feel free to consult your doctor, though. It's best to be safe.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension.
Is there anything else I can help with?
