Kidney Pain While Taking Hydrochlorothiazide

I have been taking hydrochlorothiazide for 2 weeks now, and this past week my kidneys have hurt badly and it hurts in my kidneys when I urinate. Is this typical of this med? Im taking it for high BP, also it makes me very sleepy if I take my whole 25 mg pill at once, I have had to go to a half dose to not be so tired. Anyone else have this experience? Should I call my doc?

This medication is use to remove excess fluid from the body, to help treat high blood pressure, edema, and congestive heart failure.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension.

Your doctor should be checking your kidney function, via blood work, every few weeks to be certain that you are safe.

Are you on any other medications?
