I'm a diabetes type 2 patient. I'm taking Insulin twice a day and Janumet three times a week. My blood sugar level is around 150, but there is no sign of improvement. My MRI test of the brain did not show any major defect. Please advise as to what I should do?

Hello, Chandra! How are you?

What types of foods do you eat?

Anything sweet, including fruits, will elevated your blood sugar, even regular foods do so, but not as much as the sweets.

And how much fat is in the foods you eat?

Fat coats the cells, so sugars can't enter the cell wall to be burned for energy. That causes them to remain in your blood stream elevating your sugar levels, as well.

The best diet for a diabetic should be low in sugars and fats, while consisting of lots of fresh vegetables and whole grains.

Exercise is also another very important factor, since it helps the body burn sugar for fuel and to use it more efficiently. Thus, if you lead a sedentary life style, your sugar levels will be higher.
