Is Taking Linzess Long-term Safe?
UpdatedHi guys! I have been suffering from constipation for at least 10 years. I am 26 years old. Few years ago my symptoms got really bad, to the point where a stool movement left me weak and in pain all day. I fortunaltely found Linzess and it has significantly improved the quality of my life. Today, I have been taking it for 1 and a half years. I have to support Linzess with taking Macrogol (2 packs a day). My stools are very loose, but I am happy this way. Because of all damage the constipation has done, whenever I get an occasional normal-size stool, it breaks my butt! Other than that, I feel good and healthy, and I am able to eat everything (which is a dream come true). However, I am still young and want to have kids at some point. I know Linzess is not safe during pregnancy. What worries me even more, however, is that does taking Linzess for a long time affect my future pregnancy? When should I stop? Is it safe at all to take it that long? I am afraid to break it off..

It should not have any effect on your future pregnancy, as long as you follow your doctor's instructions and stop taking it, once you know you are pregnant.
The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, dizziness, diarrhea, and flatulence.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Everybody has an opinion and here is mine... I would much rather take linzess and deal with possible long-term complications from the medicine then not take it and deal with the problems from constipation. Constipation does a lot more damage all the way down the pipe and out then what (I think) any pill could ever do. As far as pregnancy, one thing you need to remember is when it comes to prenatal vitamins if they have extra iron in them you are going to be VERY constipated. You need to make sure your OB-GYN knows that you do have problems with constipation and that you have been on linzess and it is the only thing that seems to work. Yall will need to come up with a plan of what to do. You CANNOT wait until you are backed up for 3 or 4 days to decide to take something or linzess... It will not be able to get through 3 to 4 days of constipation. You'll have to drink something even if it's castor oil (yuck! yuck! yuck!) and then from that point on you can take your linzess with the desired results
