Yes. Chewing on a patch can kill you. I found my estranged husband dead in his home two days ago from chewing on a Fentanyl 75mcg patch. The wrapper and the rest were right in front of him when he died. He was a life long drug abuser. I think he's been abusing opiates at least 12 years, maybe more. If it could kill him, it WILL kill many more.

Hmmm Both Kinds of Professional,

If you're so damn nonjudgmental, why did you label the person who asked this question as an "addict"?

Hi widow, I'm so sorry for your loss. How much did he chew? Did he cut it in half or quarters, or did he just chew the whole thing? I'm just curious.

Isn't that just a little insensitive? And not knowing his tolerance or health history what possible reason would there be to ask such a question?? Too much, just to quell your curiosity?? Bad form. I am sorry for her loss and the anguish you are experiencing. Godspeed.

Well Fentagurl, she took the time to post it on a public forum, I don't think she is too shy about it....do you???? And IF it's true, she did so because she intends to let others know just how dangerous it really is to chew Fentanyl. So, I don't think asking how much he chewed is too "insensitive". I'm no little kid, and I know all about LOSS. How long have YOU been around, how much have you experienced of life? If SHE thinks it was insensitive, then let HER tell me, otherwise stay out of it Fentagurl.

Besides, Fentagurl...she said he was her "estranged" husband. It's not like they were real close at the time of the tragedy. Though, I'm sure it still quite upsetting. But if she posted about this experience on this public forum, that means she took the time to look up "Chew a Fentanyl Patch". And she obviously intended for others to learn from his mistake, which is very good of her. Hopefully she will make someone else think twice before trying it. But as far as sensitivity to asking how much of the patch he chewed? Grow up. And about my email? same as this;;;;not your biz.

Wtf does how long I have been alive, or "around" mean. As far as you advising me to stay out of anything on a public forum shows your hubris. Why do you doubt her information? And estranged can mean a lot of things, how can you say they were not close? If you want " the widow on the set" you might be better off reading a book for your drama fix. This is a human being behind the post. I would think with all your "experience "(?) You might have a little empathy.....sadly you seem bereft of this or the decency to wait until she wants to share more IF she'd like to I doubt she would after you practically called her a liar. Why don't you mind your own business? This is an open forum where people express their viewpoints, which are bound to be different and cause others to kindly disagree. Obviously I won't take your 2 posts scolding me personally, and I would expect you ti do the same since we both have different experiences. Obviously you felt strongly about this to call me out and doubt the veracity and honesty of the poster.

Let's just face facts: A person who is orally ingesting a medication designed for topical application is abusing the medication. I don't care if it's a nicotine patch, a birth control patch, or a fentanyl patch - the failure to follow prescribed instructions makes it drug abuse. Of course, chomping on a birth control patch likely won't kill you; nicotine and fentanyl present the real possibility of death. People with drug addictions have a disease that is quite treatable - and that treatment doesn't involve abusing opioids.

wow, you are waaayyy out there, fentagurl. I never said I doubted her. And yes, she did say it was her ESTRANGED husband. Don' t you know how to read? You read so much into her post and my post that you find things that aren't even there! Yes, YOU need to mind your own business. I see your history here. You go around attacking everybody who posts. You act like you own this forum and are DICTATOR. You got some serious ego issues. I would bet $1M you got NPD, too. You've got serious issues - go away.

Fentagurl: I challenge you to try to be more pro-active in your "HARM REDUCTION" instead of wasting all your energy attacking everything someone else posts about. You pose that you know so much, but you only expose your ignorance when you criticize others the way you do. You claim to know so much about HARM REDUCTION, then why don't you share your extensive and superior knowledge pertaining to that instead of trying to play dictator? Are you North Korean royalty? Go take a xanax....or get back on your meds. You really, really need them.

Fentagurl...you might want to spend more time helping others with "HARM REDUCTION" that you claim to know so much about as opposed to attacking others. You try to use words that don't even fit, and you read things into posts that aren't even there, thus exposing ignorance. Try being less of a dictator wannabe and be more supportive of your fellow mates, aye? stop attacking everyone and play nice....you like to run with scissors. You're gonna trip one of these days.

KJB: You are right about ingesting anything that is prescribed for topical use to be ABUSE, straight up. You go on to say that "failure to follow prescribed instructions makes it drug abuse." I agree with that when it comes to ingesting it as opposed to using topically, but there is an issue where some docs aren't prescribing correct dosages of the patch. And/or they aren't providing adequate meds to go along with the patch for breakthrough pain. THIS can lead someone, who might find themselves in a moment of severe pain, to use more than prescribed. I don't know if you require pain meds or not for significant pain, but sometimes people have a difficult time putting themselves in the shoes of people who do, even some doctors. You know what I'm talking about if you are prescribed these patches, too...it's sad but common. On the other hand, it's people who abuse the meds (Selling, Stealing, overdosing, etc..) that make it so much harder for docs to prescribe the meds in the first place, thus making them paranoid and stingy with the pain relief to their patients. And some states are worse than others when it comes to regulations and hoops the doctors must jump through. But if the docs are jumping thru the hoops, the genuine patients with pain are going thru much, much worse.

Optional is correct... I won't even bother to correct your inaccuracies. Perhaps you might find another forum to get your thrills from. STALKER!! Go play yourself, if you have nothing better to do than ruminate over last week's lunch, perhaps you could tell all of us how many patches you can fit in your mouth. I agree more time could be spent on harm reduction, but perhaps your way... Details of said harm is more "exciting". I apologize for the thread derail, and that is all.

Reference your post 372 "IF it's true". No doubting her there , you make quite a few assumptions yourself "Optional"

Hmmm, let's see. Your accusation was: "IF she'd like to I doubt she would after you practically called her a liar ........ Obviously you felt strongly about this to call me out and doubt the veracity and honesty of the poster."

Doubt the "veracity" & honesty? LOL! You cannot find where I called her a liar or said that I doubted her. Does that frustrate you? You cannot find evidence of your false accusations? Everything I said proves that I pretty much believed her story, and I asked kindly - gently. I did not attack or accuse anything. YOU are the only person doing that, Fentagurl. And I'm not your only victim. Like I said, you've got some serious issues.

Fentagurl - why did'nt you copy & paste the rest of that sentence I wrote? Just want to pick & choose what you want to believe, right? It really frustrates you that you couldn't find any more evidence of your false accusations, huh? Everything I said about her is clear that I believed her. I wouldn't have even asked her the question that got your panties all in a bunch if I didn't believe her, LOL! So you don't even make sense with your attacks. what a joke.

Your copy & past job of what I said "If" is a far cry from what you accused me of. Here, I'll refresh your memory:: "IF she'd like to I doubt she would after you practically called her a liar. ....Obviously you felt strongly about this to call me out and doubt the veracity and honesty of the poster." I have to laugh at this! Okay Fent, who is the one here making false accusations and attacking others? Kiddo, I think you got to go back and re-read everything if you want to throw any more poison arrows. lol!

I apologize to the board for wasting time defending my position, when there truly is no need. It's all there and interpret as you may, as far as copying and pasting goes I'll leave that to those more inclined. Again all apologies for taking the bait .
