Is It Ok To Take Buspar And Xanax?

My dr has me on 1mg of xanax and I am still having anxiety, so he put me on buspar as well. Is it safe and will it work?

Taking them together can make you feel more dizzy, basically more intense side effects. I would only do so under a doctor's supervision.

Hi Mary,

If your doctor prescribed both medications then I believe it is his or her professional opinion (after an in person evaluation & reviewing your medical records) that you can safely take them together in the doses that you were put on. My understanding is that your prescribing doctor also believes they will work well together... So I think if you're going to question their "expertise", perhaps it would be best to seek the opinion of another medical doctor (or pharmacist) outside of your network.

I'd also encourage you to check out the University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu / drug interaction tool) for good measure, where you can plug in the name of each drug you are taking and it will search its database for possible contraindications.
