Is Tecta Ok To Take With A Heart Condition? Or Is Zantac Better?
UpdatedI have been experiencing a lot of heartburn in the past few months. I was quite concerned since I had a silent heart attack 2 years ago, and really had no symptoms nor any risk factors at the time .... So now I am worried every time I feel anything out of the ordinary. When I asked my doctor if it could be acid reflux, she said probably and gave me a 2 week sample of Tecta. I only took a few and stopped because I am going on holiday in a few days and don't want to experience any possible side effects.
My big question is ... Could Tecta NOT be good if you have a heart condition? I read it could cause heart palpitations and so I am obviously concerned and wonder why my GP gave it to me. Or is it OK to take and that is why she gave it to me? My heartburn is still a problem. My husband was told to take Zantac for his heartburn. Which is better? And could I use his Zantac when I am on holiday or not??? Or is that also not good if you have a heart contion?
Please help me. Thanks!

Hello, Sandy! How are you?
I think you may be misunderstanding palpitations, they are just when you gain a sense of your own heart beating, such as feeling it pounding or fluttering in your chest, but overall, unless you have a really high heart rate or they continue for a long time, they are benign and nothing to worry about.
Thus, it isn't something your doctor would really worry about, unless the condition of your heart is very unstable.
I have a heart condition myself and this was actually prescribed to me right before leaving the hospital, after having congestive heart failure, because I also had gastritis with stomach bleeding. I've also taken it several times since then, with the approval of both my PCP and my cardiologist.
If you're worried, you should definitely call your doctor to double check, you should never be afraid to do that, but as I said, in most cases, palpitations are just annoying.
Is there anything else I can help with?
