Is Saphris Discontinued?

My son takes Saphris for Bi-polar disorder, our pharmacist (rite aid) said it is on back order and can no longer get it from any supplier! Is there a shortage? Or is it discontinued or both?

Hello, Veve! How are you and your son? I'm sorry that you're having a problem finding his medication.

However, I haven't been able to find anything listed with the FDA that there is a shortage or that it's been discontinued. But it's important to note that companies aren't actually required to report them, it is a voluntary thing.

Saphris is listed as being an atypical antipsychotic that may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, weight changes, dry mouth and somnolence.

Have you contacted his doctor? He might need to have something else prescribed, in the meantime, until this one is available, again.
