Is Opana 10mg Stronger Than A Oxycodone 30mg (Page 7) (Top voted first)

i have new pesription and my dr. wants me to try opana 10mg. is this drug stonger and how much stonger than my last drug oxycodone 30mg..

I just started taking opana 40 mg Er X 2 bout a month ago and 15 mg oxycodone X 3 , I was taking 40 mg OxyContin x 3 and 15 mg oxycodone X 3 for last 8-10 years ! I can tell my pain is being helped but the opana is NOT as good ,relief wise as the OxyContin - to me ! And NO high of any kind , which is ok !

I haven't read all your replies, so forgive me if I'm repeating info you've already received from someone else. I checked CDC's Morphine Milligram Equivalents Table, which is the suggested document that doctors use for calculating daily doses of opiates. Oxycodone has a conversion factor of 1.5 so 30 mgs X 1.5 = 45 mg of Morphine. Oxymorphone has a conversion factor of 3, so 10 mg X 3 = 30 mg of Morphine. I'm fairly certain if a person has been taking opiates and the doctor is changing them to a new opiate, they are supposed to reduce the dose of the new opiate by 25%. I can't remember the reasoning but I 'm pretty sure that's how it works. When I asked my doctor to change me to Morphine, he tried that but I told him what I knew of the conversion rates and that I was already going into withdrawal every 4 hours, so he agreed to forego the 25% reduction. I have a lot of pain from many painful condition I have been taking Oxycontin 40 mg twice a day and oxycondone/apap 10/325 mg 3 times a day for breakthrough pain. I moving from private insurance to medicare and the drug plan I got does not cover oxycontin. My doctor is going to switch me to Opana ER 15 mg twice a day. I don't care if it does not make me high as long it help me with my pain. So is the pain relief about the same between the Oxycontin and Opana. I'm staying with my breakthrough pain medication so it going to be my around the clock meds that are changing.

Opana is SO much stronger than Vicodin/Hydrocodone that the conversion isn't even listed on the Opana site. It takes only 13mg of Opana to equal 60mg of Vicodin/Hydrocodone. So if you're switching 10mg for 10mg...you ought to be completely overdosed!

In fact Opana is multiple times stronger than both Morphine and Dilaudid. The FDA now considers the drug such a high overdose risk that that they are attempting to have the drug removed from the market.

If they're successful with banning Opana, I wonder which pain med will go next? Fentanyl patches? Then what? Many people need medication to be able to tolerate their own existence! And why are LEGITIMATE PAIN MANAGEMENT PATIENTS going to be left paying the price for street junkies? [Bless them in their suffering]

Oxymorphone 10mg er is 30mg when it reaches its major strength. That is what I was told by a doctor.

First of all, i agree whole heartedly that Fentanyl needs to come off the market because it's so dangerous. In my state, the vast majority of opiate related deaths can be attributed to it. As to your question about Opana ER, just about every drug, if not all of them, have a list of ingredients. However, if your dose is 10 mg, then there is 10 mg of Oxymorphone in each tablet. I hope that gave you the answer you were looking for. I do want to caution you that Opana ER has some very strong warnings about the possibility of. respiratory depression. In addition, there are even more serious warnings about consuming any alcohol along with the Opana ER. Tcan cause very severe respiratory depression that can easily lead to death. I suppose these are the reasons they want it taken off the market. I hope everything works out for you, but whatever you do, please be careful. Good luck.

Okay this is what I hate about these sites, NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE HELL THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. Click the link below. It will take you to an opiate calculator. How it works is it tells you how many milligrams of morphine your specific medication is equal to: nyc.gov/html/doh/html/mental/MME.html. So for s***s and giggles I used my current medication which is a 100 mcg patch of fentanyl. (Because the patch gets changed every 2-3 days you don't enter how many you take a day) This Patch equals 240mg of morphine per day. Then I entered 30 mg of oxycodone and in the number per day I entered 5 and it showed me that 5 30mg oxycodone is equal to 225 mg of morphine per day. So the 100 mcg patch has gives you more opiates than 5 30 mg of oxycodone. Now to compare the 30 mg of oxycodone to 15 mg of Opana (oxymorphone) I entered 30 mg of oxycodone and I entered 1 time per day and it showed that 30 mg of oxycodone equals 45 mg of morphine. Then I entered 15 mg of Oxymorphone (Opana) and then I entered 1 time per day and it also gave me 45 mg of morphine so 30mg of oxycodone = 15 mg of oxymorphone (Opana). Now the problem is if it is ER then you are getting the 15 mg of Oxymorphone over a 12 hour period which is about 1.25 mg of Oxymorphone per hour which is about 2.5 mg of oxycodone per hour which would be like half of a 5/325 Percocet. In this case the 30 mg oxycodone (not OxyContin) is going to be 12 times stronger than the 15 mg of Oxymorphone because the Oxymorphone is being spread out over 12 hours whereas the oxycodone is immediate release.

OPANA IS A MIXTURE OF OXYCODONE AND DILAUDID.. THE GENERIC NAME FOR DILAUDID IS HYDROMORPHONE HENCE THE COMPOUND NAME OF OPANA OXYMORPHONE
