Is Mylan Lorazepam Discontinued? (Page 9)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

My pharmacy told me that they can't buy mylan any more and they do not know if it is discontinued or not.

Since Qualitest lorazepam was discontinued, Mylan is the only lorazepam that works (less effective than Qualitest) but works with less side effects than others (Watson, leading pharma, actavis: don't work causing serious side effects).

Any alternatives, or another generic lorazepam that works ok? Lorazepam is the only sedative that works for me for anxiety and stiffness due to side effects of levothyroxine. Other medicine such as clonazepam, alprazolam (xanax), cymbalta, zoloft, lexapro, etc do not work.

It may be worth it for you to try to get your insurance to cover the brand name Klonopin. If your doctor writes up a report stating how important this medication is for you that would help. It's a different situation with the brand Ativan because that's owned by a French Canadian company that is know for major price gouging, $33 per 1mg Ativan tab!! The Klonopin won't be anywhere near as expensive for the insurance company so they might approve it.

Re: Tip21 (# 17) Expand Referenced Message

I know this was written a while back but unfortunately Mylan has discontinued both Clonazepam and Lorazepam. Talked to 3 different reps to get the same story over a month period. It sucks because I don’t abuse sh—!!! I’ve been taking 1 Cymbalta a day along with 1 Mylan Clonazepam for the last 11 years and then bam! My refill in late June was some brand called Accord, terrible! Then the crappy Actavis both Clonazepam and lorazepam. I now take Solco. It is as close to Mylan as I could find, but nothing helps my OCD and anxiety like the Mylan. Nothing! Also for some, please try the Clonazepam wafers. I tried those as well from Par pharmaceuticals And they were okay too. They melt on your tongue. It’s terrible when each Manufacturer doesn’t work the same. People need to advocate to the FDA like I did and also contact your Congressman to get this changed because there is too much bio availability difference between each pill. And when you’re dealing with mental health medication, you’re playing Russian roulette with your life and it’s not fair just for the bigwigs to make their money

Joyce (# 9) --
Problems with effectiveness of the medication very often is a result of change in inactive ingredients. With generic and brands the companies just for profit( chipper cost of manufacturing ) putting their own business first. And now with the opioids epidemic and great economical opportunities they just play with the medications the way that profits them. Not saying, that we have a big problem with addictive medications. But lots of people simply benefit from those drugs, taking. them under supervision. Having productive lives. There is no enough money for comprehensive treatment. So, prevention. AGREE 100 precent But there are millions of people depending on clean medications. Greed ad politics seems to rule. That's very low ,extremely unethical, crual . Watch your inactive ingredients. If you really need your medication the way, they use to be, educate yourself, and fight for humaine treatment of a patient.

Hi, I too have to go to small" Mom and Pop" pharmacy's for my medication.. but that's okay, I really appreciate the way that the smaller pharms treat me!

So now I have bad news about CVS to report. I just spoke with my store and they told me it's now a corporate wide policy that the stores can no longer special order different generic brands, only what they stock is what they can fill. In the case of lorazepam that means all you can get at CVS is Major Pharm's. CVS was the holdout of the big chains, Rite Aid wouldn't special order nor will Walgreens. Fortunately I have several options of independent pharmacies near me that are on my insurance that I know will order what i request so that's where were heading with that.

Still waiting to hear back from Aurobindo...

Re: Marcus (# 61) Expand Referenced Message

Ok, so I just spoke to Aurobindo about their new lorazepam. The woman I spoke with says it's not available yet but took my name & Tel and will call me back after she talks with the "supply team" for more information. I will update here when I hear more. Thanks again Marcus for the heads up about this.

Re: Marcus (# 61) Expand Referenced Message

Marcus thanks for the update about Aurobindo, that could be the answer we all need. I’ll check with my pharmacy and see about it’s availablilty.

As for the major/leading, I recently got a small amount of it from CVS and was shocked how completely useless it was!! It did nothing for my anxiety at all. I would recommend if you want to try it to only get a small amount to see if it works before getting stuck with a months worth or more.

I just found out I am in the same boat.

I was on Qualitest for many years, then Mylan, and now that has been discontinued.

I saw Aurobindo just recently came out with a new lorazepam on the market (it's confusing because it's marketed by Aurolife but it's listed on the Aurobindo web-site). It just received market approval.

Has anyone tried it?

CVS is offering me Leading or Major, neither of which I have heard of before. Not sure what to do.

I feel like it took me a while to get used to switching to Mylan and just only in the last couple months did I settle down from that change and now have to switch again.

Mylan has discontinued Lorazepam and the company has confirmed.

Re: Gabby (# 58) Expand Referenced Message

I have been forced to switch to lorazepam made by Leading, as that is what CVS now carries. It does not work very well, does almost nothing for anxiety, and I am experiencing withdrawal effects that a few other people may be misidentifying as side effects. These are sleeplessness, nightmares, and anxiety, despite using the same dosage as when I was taking the Mylan version. Either the pills made by Leading are way short on active ingredient, or it is not absorbed well, or a combination of both, I don't know which. Been on it for a week now with no improvement. I will give it a few more days, then talk to doc about switching to clonazepam, which seems to have less variability among generic makers, but can aggravate depression, which is why I don't use it now.

Re: Jamie (# 56) Expand Referenced Message

As I posted I'm taken what is supposed to be Sandoz. I seen that someone said that Sandoz is the maker. But I also seen that they stop making it some years back and then starting making it again. I'm guessing I have the tail end of what's left because I called Sandoz last week or whenever it was and they've d/c it. The stuff is just like taken Watson or Actavis. As I said my pharmacist could have did what yours did but didn't. He tried to pull a line on me as I believe i told others they' don't like patients having a high volume of .5's in their possession. Like what in world would I do with them that I didn't do with 1mgs or 2mgs. Everywhere ive called in my city said no more Mylan. I honestly don't believe it. I still believe .5's are still floating around here. Walgreen and Wal-Mart says they won't ordered it even if it was available. Right now I'm up a tree without a ladder to come down. All I can do is hope I can adjust to this stuff. Trying to figure out who these new names are again. If I had to guess it's the same ones I talked about before. What bothers me about that is I believe it's someone who has some connection to a moderator in here. If so that's pretty sad. Some of us need this site for feedback not someone playing games. If you look through years back you can see where the same person has had countless names. Same dialogue and same style of writing. I've seen this person on other chats about lorazepam. This person is one serious head case. Put me in a tailspin way back in May reading the post. What bothers me is that I've seen posts where folks are outright cussing at each other and my post end up being not being posted for speaking the truth. Y'all take care. Glad you have what you have for now. Hoping something new will come up for those in the same boat I am.

Re: Gabby (# 55) Expand Referenced Message

Yes, my pharmacy Rite Aid well now Walgreens ordered me the rest of the .5 the 1 milligrams have been long gone. My pharmacist is very understanding thank god and wanted to do all she could. Same with my Doctor. He changed the script from ones to .5 so I could have the Mylan. I’m in MA. I’m sorry you are out. What are you using now? I hope it’s not too bad.

Re: RobertA (# 54) Expand Referenced Message

I think Jamie was saying she's up that way and she was able to have her pharmacist order 60 bottles for her. I don't remember what strength she's taken. But wow ya know. My pharmacist could have done the same thing for me but didn't. Now I'm taken another brand in hopes I don't end up in a tainspin. Trying to figure out how they got their hands on Sandoz when they're no longer making it. Guessing they must have had some in their warehouse. Took my last Mylan ever today. :(

Re: Gabby (# 53) Expand Referenced Message

I live in CT (on the east Coast). CVS used to carry lorazepam by Mylan, now they cannot get it, they have none.

Re: RobertA (# 52) Expand Referenced Message

Sure would be nice if they'd posted it on their website saying they're no longer making it. Anyone else have any thoughts about this? I can hear the crickets chirping out here. Still like to know why the east coast seems to have availability still in their warehouses. Anything Midwest or West coast nothing.

From their web site I just sent Mylan an inquiry about lorazepam. It included my phone number. They called me back within minutes. Lorazepam HAS been discontinued by Mylan. This is the definitive answer.

Re: HomeTown Mom (# 49) Expand Referenced Message

Actually Mylan for me just worked and made things bearable. Where brand name Ativan rocked. Mylan didnt have any of the nasty side effects like most of us have been discussing. But the original brand really worked great and you didn't need as much. Just odd how some of us can take one and others can't. Still waiting for a call... Hang in there y'all!

Jamie (# 46) --

Wow that's good news for you. Can't find one bottle where I'm located at. Honestly my spouse and I have found that hard to believe. Guessing from your other post the east coast stocked up on it better. Ya after I posted my comment to you about a different benzo I looked them up again and seen that most of what I suggested are not as strong as Mylan. Plus I seen many say that Klonopin is worst to come off than others. Sorry about that. Just thought if it came to that maybe it would be a option. Cause that's kind of where I'm at. I'm not looking forward to starting Sandoz at all and if it works they only have so many bottles left here. Still waiting for one last phone call that might help many of us. Has nothing to do with Mylan. As I posted last night but it isn't on here yet. I really think Mylan and Sandoz sold out to a bigger pharmaceutical company. Again that's good news about what your pharmacist was able to do for you. Actually there is another deal I just thought about. Finding a compound pharmacy they can tailor a dose that might work for us? I'm going to look into that.

Re: HomeTown Mom (# 35) Expand Referenced Message

Leading Pharma uses 2 of the 4 inactive ingredients that MYLAN used. Not close enough. Some stomach upset, no relief from anxiety, nerve pain, or sleeplessness... Mylan was a CureAll... Next appointment in about 4 weeks...
