Is Mylan Lorazepam Discontinued? (Page 3) (Top voted first)

Updated

My pharmacy told me that they can't buy mylan any more and they do not know if it is discontinued or not. Since Qualitest lorazepam was discontinued, Mylan is the only lorazepam that works (less effective than Qualitest) but works with less side effects than others (Watson, leading pharma, actavis: don't work causing serious side effects). Any alternatives, or another generic lorazepam that works ok? Lorazepam is the only sedative that works for me for anxiety and stiffness due to side effects of levothyroxine. Other medicine such as clonazepam, alprazolam (xanax), cymbalta, zoloft, lexapro, etc do not work.

I called mylan couple of times but could not reach them so I emailed them a few times. They called me back and said, currently all strength of lorazepam is unavailable. Mylan lorazepam is backordered but they have not decided the release date yet.

She asked me to contact them in 2 weeks for release date. Anyways...we have to wait. but I wonder if my pharmacist can order it if their wholesaler does not carry it or my pharmacy sticks to another manufacturer of lorazepam (Watson-which does not work for me with terrible side effects).

I can tell you the NDC for the 1mg bottle of 1000 tabs is: 00378-2457-10. This is the bottle my CVS has ordered in the past. Pill markings are printed "Mylan" on top and "457" on bottom.

Hello, yes lorazepam will and is still being manufactured. A friend of mine gets 90 per month and has no problem getting it filled. Best of luck to you!

Hello again, you are absolutely correct! You should NOT go Cold turkey off this med, the withdrawals are pretty nasty! Insomnia and anxiety, along with a general feeling of slight depression and fatigue.. You definitely should taper the dose down..

Re: HOUSE (# 30) Expand Referenced Message

I'd like to sue the manufacturers of Lorazepam for allowing my NP cut me cold turkey. I have been unable to sleep for an entire week now, don't fall asleep until 6 am.

Yes, MYLAN also told me Lorazapam is discontinued. I'm waiting to hear from my Pharmacy about Leading Pharma. That brand has 2 of the 4 inactive ingredients that MYLAN used. If I can't tolerate that, I'm considering switching back to Valium. Lorazapam worked better for me than Valium, but if Leading Pharma makes me sick with their inactive ingredients, I won't have much of a choice......

Re: winjy (# 20) Expand Referenced Message

I got a call from mylan today and she said lorazepam was discontinued. A few weeks ago, another staff told me it was back-ordered but they did not decide the release date asking me to contact them later for the release date. But now they said it is discontinued. Why do they have different information? I don't know whom to trust. I sent them inquiries again to make sure, but if it is discontinued, I am in big trouble as Qualitest was discontinued earlier that works well for me and mylan was OK but other manufacturers such as watson, leading pharma do not work at all causing bad side effect. I live in LA and in my area, pharmacies sell only watson, leading pharma, actavis, or sandoz that do not work for me.

Re: winjy (# 38) Expand Referenced Message

In the same boat! I’m on the other side of the country! Mass. All we have is leading and Actavis both garbage. My paharmaxy ordered me all they could for Mylan after that which will probably only be a few months, I’ll find out next week. I will be screwed! I don’t understand why they are discontinuing. :(

Re: winjy (# 38) Expand Referenced Message

You would think they'd just post it on their website and delete that they're not making it. Most certainly would have helped a lot of us from calling or emailing them. If you look out there now it shows they still make it. At least Sandoz doesn't show they're making Lorazepam anymore.

Re: Jamie (# 43) Expand Referenced Message

Sorry to hear that Jamie. Like me you may have to consider a different benzo group. I have family that uses generic Klonopin and it works just peachy for them. Crazy because ones my sister and other is my daughter. Same bloodline... but no bueno for me.

Maybe now I'm older my body chemistry might have changed so it's worth a try I suppose. Only thing is it's not fast acting.

Valium and Xanax are out of the question. Valium is fast acting and wears off fast. Xanax the same thing. Both super addictive! Tranxene is kind of like a placebo effect for me. It was the first benzo I ever took before Valium then Xanax and onto Ativan/ lorazepam. I think I tried Librium as well right after Tranxene. Anywho .. Ya .. ya know folks...

Re: winjy (# 38) Expand Referenced Message

I received another call from mylan. One staff told me that lorazepam is backordered but do not know the release date and it is going to be the final batch. After the batch is exhausted it will be discontinued. However, the other staff told me that they do not know if it is discontinued as they do not have information but they have no inventory at this time. She asked me to contact them in 2 weeks again.

The strange thing is that they do not know what is going on exactly.

Jamie (# 46) --

Wow that's good news for you. Can't find one bottle where I'm located at. Honestly my spouse and I have found that hard to believe. Guessing from your other post the east coast stocked up on it better. Ya after I posted my comment to you about a different benzo I looked them up again and seen that most of what I suggested are not as strong as Mylan. Plus I seen many say that Klonopin is worst to come off than others. Sorry about that. Just thought if it came to that maybe it would be a option. Cause that's kind of where I'm at. I'm not looking forward to starting Sandoz at all and if it works they only have so many bottles left here. Still waiting for one last phone call that might help many of us. Has nothing to do with Mylan. As I posted last night but it isn't on here yet. I really think Mylan and Sandoz sold out to a bigger pharmaceutical company. Again that's good news about what your pharmacist was able to do for you. Actually there is another deal I just thought about. Finding a compound pharmacy they can tailor a dose that might work for us? I'm going to look into that.

Re: Gabby (# 55) Expand Referenced Message

Yes, my pharmacy Rite Aid well now Walgreens ordered me the rest of the .5 the 1 milligrams have been long gone. My pharmacist is very understanding thank god and wanted to do all she could. Same with my Doctor. He changed the script from ones to .5 so I could have the Mylan. I’m in MA. I’m sorry you are out. What are you using now? I hope it’s not too bad.

Re: Gabby (# 58) Expand Referenced Message

I have been forced to switch to lorazepam made by Leading, as that is what CVS now carries. It does not work very well, does almost nothing for anxiety, and I am experiencing withdrawal effects that a few other people may be misidentifying as side effects. These are sleeplessness, nightmares, and anxiety, despite using the same dosage as when I was taking the Mylan version. Either the pills made by Leading are way short on active ingredient, or it is not absorbed well, or a combination of both, I don't know which. Been on it for a week now with no improvement. I will give it a few more days, then talk to doc about switching to clonazepam, which seems to have less variability among generic makers, but can aggravate depression, which is why I don't use it now.

I just found out I am in the same boat.

I was on Qualitest for many years, then Mylan, and now that has been discontinued.

I saw Aurobindo just recently came out with a new lorazepam on the market (it's confusing because it's marketed by Aurolife but it's listed on the Aurobindo web-site). It just received market approval.

Has anyone tried it?

CVS is offering me Leading or Major, neither of which I have heard of before. Not sure what to do.

I feel like it took me a while to get used to switching to Mylan and just only in the last couple months did I settle down from that change and now have to switch again.

Re: Marcus (# 61) Expand Referenced Message

Ok, so I just spoke to Aurobindo about their new lorazepam. The woman I spoke with says it's not available yet but took my name & Tel and will call me back after she talks with the "supply team" for more information. I will update here when I hear more. Thanks again Marcus for the heads up about this.

So now I have bad news about CVS to report. I just spoke with my store and they told me it's now a corporate wide policy that the stores can no longer special order different generic brands, only what they stock is what they can fill. In the case of lorazepam that means all you can get at CVS is Major Pharm's. CVS was the holdout of the big chains, Rite Aid wouldn't special order nor will Walgreens. Fortunately I have several options of independent pharmacies near me that are on my insurance that I know will order what i request so that's where were heading with that.

Still waiting to hear back from Aurobindo...

Re: RockerJ (# 67) Expand Referenced Message

It may be worth it for you to try to get your insurance to cover the brand name Klonopin. If your doctor writes up a report stating how important this medication is for you that would help. It's a different situation with the brand Ativan because that's owned by a French Canadian company that is know for major price gouging, $33 per 1mg Ativan tab!! The Klonopin won't be anywhere near as expensive for the insurance company so they might approve it.
