Is Mylan Lorazepam Discontinued? (Page 11)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

My pharmacy told me that they can't buy mylan any more and they do not know if it is discontinued or not.

Since Qualitest lorazepam was discontinued, Mylan is the only lorazepam that works (less effective than Qualitest) but works with less side effects than others (Watson, leading pharma, actavis: don't work causing serious side effects).

Any alternatives, or another generic lorazepam that works ok? Lorazepam is the only sedative that works for me for anxiety and stiffness due to side effects of levothyroxine. Other medicine such as clonazepam, alprazolam (xanax), cymbalta, zoloft, lexapro, etc do not work.

Hello, yes lorazepam will and is still being manufactured. A friend of mine gets 90 per month and has no problem getting it filled. Best of luck to you!

Re: Jean (# 24) Expand Referenced Message

Won't lorazepam be manufactured under any other name or brand at all? My new NP cut my dose down to next to nothing and overnight. The Lorazepam label says you have to be weaned off the stuff in order not to have side effects such as seizures. Luckily I didn't have any seizures but possibly could have. Plus the NP only gave me ten pills for a month much less than I was originally ordered four years ago,

Re: Jean (# 24) Expand Referenced Message

From the Medschat thread "Watson Vs. Mylan Generic Lorazepam Side Effects" there is a lot of discussion about this as well. When I spoke with Mylan they told me it was "being discontinued". Others were told the same but also that they were going to use up their remaining supplies to make one last batch. That's not a long term solution as who knows how long it will last in the warehouses or before expiration date.

I talked to Mylan 6/13/18 and they told me lorazepam was on backorder and will be discontinued. Having a backorder makes no sense if you are not going to manufacture again. I'm going to call them again and see what answer they give me. Then I'm going to contact the FDA to register a complaint.

Re: Tip21 (# 17) Expand Referenced Message

How come when I talked to Mylan they told me they were discontinuing them?! I talked to them on Monday? So what’s the real deal?!! Why are different reps saying different things? My doctor called pharmacy and asked for them to find Mylan there are no pharmacies at all in my area that have any. They were able to order the .5 but they told me those are being discontinued as well. Mylan is the only generic that works for me. I’m freaking out!

FYI, I just received a call back from Mylan after my phone call a couple days ago. They confirmed they are discontinuing lorazepam.

I can tell you the NDC for the 1mg bottle of 1000 tabs is: 00378-2457-10. This is the bottle my CVS has ordered in the past. Pill markings are printed "Mylan" on top and "457" on bottom.

I called mylan couple of times but could not reach them so I emailed them a few times. They called me back and said, currently all strength of lorazepam is unavailable. Mylan lorazepam is backordered but they have not decided the release date yet.

She asked me to contact them in 2 weeks for release date. Anyways...we have to wait. but I wonder if my pharmacist can order it if their wholesaler does not carry it or my pharmacy sticks to another manufacturer of lorazepam (Watson-which does not work for me with terrible side effects).

Re: Henry (# 18) Expand Referenced Message

It is not discontinued? I called them but could not reach anyone.

Someone who replied to my post below says he or she called Mylan and it is discontinued. So I do not know what is going on? On their website there is a product list that shows lorazepam 1mg. Maybe it is not updated or correct.

Anyways...if it is backordered, I can buy somewhere but here in LA I called and visited 30 pharmacies but none sell mylan.

Went to refill today for Mylan lorazepam. CVS told me they were told it's back ordered for three weeks (approx 6/21). They were able to give me a partial fill based on the remainder of the large bottle they had ordered for me months ago.

Mylan is the only generic lorazepam that works in my 12 years experience with Ativan. For many years when my insurance covered it, my scripts were marked 'Dispense As Written' for the brand Ativan. Initially owned by Biovail then Valeant when they merged with Biovail. Valeant are the worst kind of scum and ran the pill cost up to $25 per pill (not a typo). They were hauled in front of US Congress over this and other similar practices, but nothing came of it most likely because it's a Canadian company and there is a generic available (irregardless that only one generic is any good and it's apparently hard to get). In January my insurance changed and I switched to the Mylan as it was the least problematic of the generics I had taken prior to the brand. There was an adjustment period for the first month where it felt like it wasn't quite as potent as the Brand, but nothing horrific like trying to take the sugar pills from Actavis. Now unfortunately there is a problem getting the Mylan lorazepam. Not sure why as they are the largest generic drug manufacturer and supposedly the largest producer of benzodiazepines. Hopefully Mylan begins to keep this stocked regularly or else I will have no choice but to talk to my doctor about switching to a different med which would be a shame as ativan works great for me.

Re: Joyce (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

If you're talking about Mylan lorazepam discontinuing their manufacturing of lorazepam that's false. They aren't even open on the weekends. I've spoke to them about this shortage as well and they assured me there's no discontinuation of Mylan lorazepam. They're on backordered with their 1mg tablets. They have techs and nurses that you can discuss any issues about any of their drugs they make. They are very gracious and helpful. Yes many warehouses may not want to purchase it due to cost factors or any other reason but it's not discontinued.

Re: Jenny (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

I can say this with almost certainty no pharmacy is going to be pushing out benzodiazepines like candy to anyone. They will cut those that are abusing it off really fast. They have more say so than a doctor. Reason is they don't want to lose their license. There was a time that many would just fill it without any reserved. But being that benzodiazepines aren't the happening drug anymore and the risk of abuse is more widely known that's what hurts us that take them properly. I was appalled when I read some of the other boards out here with people asking how long benzodiazepines will stay in your body because they had to do a U/A. Those are the folks that make it rough on us that as I said are using the medication correctly. I get it, they're addicted to them and can't function without them. But I'm glad that pharmacies are cracking down on those they know are abusing them. Just my take....

Re: Joseph (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

I just looked on Mylan's website and they still show they're making clonazepam. I'm not sure if we can post links so just Google Mylan Pharmaceuticals. Maybe be your pharmacy doesn't want to purchase it anymore? As I stated some pharmacies will only purchase what their warehouses actually has and it's normally because of cost factors. It's not that the medications aren't available I believe it's all because of a financial deal. Few years back I had my local Wal-Mart purchase a drug nobody else would get and they had to tell their warehouse to pick it up for them. So it's not impossible to get anything out there it's just whether they'll do it or not. But folks I can't stress this enough please stop posting comments that something is discontinued unless you know for a fact it is. Calling the pharmaceutical companies directly is your best option to know whether it's available or not. But man guys you can put some of us in a tail spin posting half truths. :( Best wishes to you all.

I'm going to say this, unless anyone's actually has proven facts something is discontinued please don't report it on the boards. If you need to know the facts whether the brand you're taken is still available call the company and they will tell you. I have a pharmacy tech that's been saying she thinks Mylan isn't going to make the 1mg tablets anymore. I told her to clarify her source. As I've stated I've talked directly to Mylan about whether lorazepam is either on backorder or being discontinued. (It's on backorder) As one stated above look on the pharmaceutical companies websites and they will show you a list what they have available and the warehouse to go through for pharmacies to purchase it. I talked to three different folks at Mylan about what is going on. The fellow saying his Mylan Klonopin has been discontinued by Mylan I can't say for certain but I just looked on their site and they are still showing it's being made by them. I think some of these pharmacy reps and pharmacies are snowballing some of us into believing they can't get what we take. I can only say that it's one because maybe their warehouse doesn't buy it any more or they just don't want it in their pharmacy and only want to carry what's the cheapest for them to purchase. The other thing to keep in mind the more you talk to pharmacies they may think you're drug seeking. Trust me when I say this a pharmacist is more app to cut you off then the doctor will. I've seen it happen plenty of times. Hang in there folks.

Re: Joyce (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

What company did you call that said they're discontinuing their medication? Are you taking about Mylan's Klonopin or are you talking about Mylan's lorazepam?

HOUSE (# 6) --

I'm having trouble getting my Neurologist to prescribe 4 months of Fiorinal in one script. I asked for this because my Medicare co-pay is $ 100. for 45 capsules up to 180 capsules. Of course I'm asking to pay once, not four times. It's the highest copay I've ever had. I was given Fiorinal back in 1976 for Migraines. They've gotten worse over the years, but most attacks, Fiorinal stops the pain and if not, then brings it down to where I can function. I can't stand the restrictions because of the opioid crisis and although Fiorinal comes with Codeine, I don't get nor want the Codeine.

Re: Twig7 (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

It's truly a TOTAL rip off for almost ALL pharmaceuticals! I take a med, Fiorinal, that was first produced almost 50 year's ago and if it weren't for my insurance it would cost me almost $250.00 for a ONE MONTH supply! The really whacked out thing is that in the 1980's, when I didn't have insurance I could get a one month supply for about $35.00!!! What is wrong with THAT picture?? It is Soooo Damm ridiculous, sad, and sick! Ok, I'll stop the rant now....

Called the company last weekend. Yes it's discontinued. The only lorazapam available now is "leading" and the awful one with strange side affects : bad dreams , little sleep. Actavis... I suggest getting off and asking the Dr for another script for sleep. I was on ativan for 7yrs .It's a B...ch going off. I only took 1mg nightly.
