Is Mylan Lorazepam Discontinued?

Updated

My pharmacy told me that they can't buy mylan any more and they do not know if it is discontinued or not.

Since Qualitest lorazepam was discontinued, Mylan is the only lorazepam that works (less effective than Qualitest) but works with less side effects than others (Watson, leading pharma, actavis: don't work causing serious side effects).

Any alternatives, or another generic lorazepam that works ok? Lorazepam is the only sedative that works for me for anxiety and stiffness due to side effects of levothyroxine. Other medicine such as clonazepam, alprazolam (xanax), cymbalta, zoloft, lexapro, etc do not work.

I don't know about lorazepam being discontinued but I was told by two representatives the they are discontinuing clonazepam and I'm devastated. Mylan is the only brand that works for me. Try calling them to confirm it. This is a total disgrace. God Bless!

Thank you for your reply. I used to use Qualitest Lorazepam but it was discontinued. Qualitest is better than mylan for me. Now I can't buy mylan. T.T

I talked to Mylan Pharmaceuticals and they told me the only thing they got going on is they are back-ordered on 1 mg tablets. That should be rectified sometime this week. They still have .5 mgs and 2 mgs available. Ask your pharmacy if they can order those two strengths and have your gp or pdoc write you a script to the amount you take daily. (You may hafta double up or split your pills) If they aren't a mom and pop style pharmacy I'd call around to one as they're more willing to help you. Only other brand that worked for me was BPI that Valeant makes. They took over BPI which bought out Wyeth Pharmaceuticals brand name. My Wal-Mart can get BPI and the so-called brand name that Valeant makes. (Valeant makes both the generic BPI and the brand name they say is the original Ativan) I won't believe it's the real deal until I've heard it from them and taken it. I about flipped my wig when Wal-Mart told my wife how much 100 1mgs were. Hope this helps.

I do not have any information on it being discontinued, but there might be a manufacturing shortage. Can you all please post back with more details, such as the markings on the tablets? That would enable me to research more information for you.

The FDA warns that Lorazepam carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, and stomach upset.

Have you tried asking your respective pharmacies about this problem?

I know when I went to my pharmacy they didn’t have any of my xanax and they didn’t know when they would be getting any in. They are back logged. I had to go to 9 cvs pharmacies to get em just cuz ppl are junkies and f***ing make everything thing worse so it makes it harder for the ppl that don’t abuse it and actually need it.

What is happening on medications that the pharmacists say they cannot get is this..... The Drug Wholesalers are changing to a less expensive pill and then they stop buying the ones that help us. They are totally in control of what we can purchase. I wish I knew a Medical Reporter that would write an article on what the Drug Wholesalers are doing to us all in the name of GREED!

Hi. I take Ativan but never have heard of Mylan Ativan. What is that? My husband and I have the same Dr. who put us both on it but they are giving us pure heck in trying to get our doses. I mean they were just awful about. It. Finally after calling in an ombudsman and two round trips of 150 miles, ridiculing my wheelchair bound husband to give a U/A when he couldn't, said he would gladly do a mouth swab. They wouldn't let him. But then all of a sudden they called and said he had to go 150 more miles to get his prescription. Don't know how they'll treat me in my next appointment.

You can ALWAYS go to Mylan's website for more information and updates to their products. Check out the 'Products List', see if it's still available...that's what I do, I just go to the manufacturer website.

As far as the other comments, someone mentioned that a certain generic clonazepam's efficacy was not effective for them...I can't tell you how many times Walgreens Pharmacy has freaking changed who they get their clonazepam and many other generic drugs from.

I used to think, "WTF? Great, a new brand. This is going to be so weak", etc, but they've always been effective. Perhaps ONE generic was weak as s***, and it was a generic modafinil (Provigil). I'm trying to remember who...I'll look it up - OK, found it. ALEMBIC - the pill ID, I think, is L 234 + white, round and scored tablet.

Called the company last weekend. Yes it's discontinued. The only lorazapam available now is "leading" and the awful one with strange side affects : bad dreams , little sleep. Actavis... I suggest getting off and asking the Dr for another script for sleep. I was on ativan for 7yrs .It's a B...ch going off. I only took 1mg nightly.

It's truly a TOTAL rip off for almost ALL pharmaceuticals! I take a med, Fiorinal, that was first produced almost 50 year's ago and if it weren't for my insurance it would cost me almost $250.00 for a ONE MONTH supply! The really whacked out thing is that in the 1980's, when I didn't have insurance I could get a one month supply for about $35.00!!! What is wrong with THAT picture?? It is Soooo Damm ridiculous, sad, and sick! Ok, I'll stop the rant now....

HOUSE (# 6) --

I'm having trouble getting my Neurologist to prescribe 4 months of Fiorinal in one script. I asked for this because my Medicare co-pay is $ 100. for 45 capsules up to 180 capsules. Of course I'm asking to pay once, not four times. It's the highest copay I've ever had. I was given Fiorinal back in 1976 for Migraines. They've gotten worse over the years, but most attacks, Fiorinal stops the pain and if not, then brings it down to where I can function. I can't stand the restrictions because of the opioid crisis and although Fiorinal comes with Codeine, I don't get nor want the Codeine.

Re: Joyce (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

What company did you call that said they're discontinuing their medication? Are you taking about Mylan's Klonopin or are you talking about Mylan's lorazepam?

I'm going to say this, unless anyone's actually has proven facts something is discontinued please don't report it on the boards. If you need to know the facts whether the brand you're taken is still available call the company and they will tell you. I have a pharmacy tech that's been saying she thinks Mylan isn't going to make the 1mg tablets anymore. I told her to clarify her source. As I've stated I've talked directly to Mylan about whether lorazepam is either on backorder or being discontinued. (It's on backorder) As one stated above look on the pharmaceutical companies websites and they will show you a list what they have available and the warehouse to go through for pharmacies to purchase it. I talked to three different folks at Mylan about what is going on. The fellow saying his Mylan Klonopin has been discontinued by Mylan I can't say for certain but I just looked on their site and they are still showing it's being made by them. I think some of these pharmacy reps and pharmacies are snowballing some of us into believing they can't get what we take. I can only say that it's one because maybe their warehouse doesn't buy it any more or they just don't want it in their pharmacy and only want to carry what's the cheapest for them to purchase. The other thing to keep in mind the more you talk to pharmacies they may think you're drug seeking. Trust me when I say this a pharmacist is more app to cut you off then the doctor will. I've seen it happen plenty of times. Hang in there folks.

Re: Joseph (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

I just looked on Mylan's website and they still show they're making clonazepam. I'm not sure if we can post links so just Google Mylan Pharmaceuticals. Maybe be your pharmacy doesn't want to purchase it anymore? As I stated some pharmacies will only purchase what their warehouses actually has and it's normally because of cost factors. It's not that the medications aren't available I believe it's all because of a financial deal. Few years back I had my local Wal-Mart purchase a drug nobody else would get and they had to tell their warehouse to pick it up for them. So it's not impossible to get anything out there it's just whether they'll do it or not. But folks I can't stress this enough please stop posting comments that something is discontinued unless you know for a fact it is. Calling the pharmaceutical companies directly is your best option to know whether it's available or not. But man guys you can put some of us in a tail spin posting half truths. :( Best wishes to you all.

Re: Jenny (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

I can say this with almost certainty no pharmacy is going to be pushing out benzodiazepines like candy to anyone. They will cut those that are abusing it off really fast. They have more say so than a doctor. Reason is they don't want to lose their license. There was a time that many would just fill it without any reserved. But being that benzodiazepines aren't the happening drug anymore and the risk of abuse is more widely known that's what hurts us that take them properly. I was appalled when I read some of the other boards out here with people asking how long benzodiazepines will stay in your body because they had to do a U/A. Those are the folks that make it rough on us that as I said are using the medication correctly. I get it, they're addicted to them and can't function without them. But I'm glad that pharmacies are cracking down on those they know are abusing them. Just my take....

Re: Joyce (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

If you're talking about Mylan lorazepam discontinuing their manufacturing of lorazepam that's false. They aren't even open on the weekends. I've spoke to them about this shortage as well and they assured me there's no discontinuation of Mylan lorazepam. They're on backordered with their 1mg tablets. They have techs and nurses that you can discuss any issues about any of their drugs they make. They are very gracious and helpful. Yes many warehouses may not want to purchase it due to cost factors or any other reason but it's not discontinued.

Went to refill today for Mylan lorazepam. CVS told me they were told it's back ordered for three weeks (approx 6/21). They were able to give me a partial fill based on the remainder of the large bottle they had ordered for me months ago.

Mylan is the only generic lorazepam that works in my 12 years experience with Ativan. For many years when my insurance covered it, my scripts were marked 'Dispense As Written' for the brand Ativan. Initially owned by Biovail then Valeant when they merged with Biovail. Valeant are the worst kind of scum and ran the pill cost up to $25 per pill (not a typo). They were hauled in front of US Congress over this and other similar practices, but nothing came of it most likely because it's a Canadian company and there is a generic available (irregardless that only one generic is any good and it's apparently hard to get). In January my insurance changed and I switched to the Mylan as it was the least problematic of the generics I had taken prior to the brand. There was an adjustment period for the first month where it felt like it wasn't quite as potent as the Brand, but nothing horrific like trying to take the sugar pills from Actavis. Now unfortunately there is a problem getting the Mylan lorazepam. Not sure why as they are the largest generic drug manufacturer and supposedly the largest producer of benzodiazepines. Hopefully Mylan begins to keep this stocked regularly or else I will have no choice but to talk to my doctor about switching to a different med which would be a shame as ativan works great for me.

Re: Henry (# 18) Expand Referenced Message

It is not discontinued? I called them but could not reach anyone.

Someone who replied to my post below says he or she called Mylan and it is discontinued. So I do not know what is going on? On their website there is a product list that shows lorazepam 1mg. Maybe it is not updated or correct.

Anyways...if it is backordered, I can buy somewhere but here in LA I called and visited 30 pharmacies but none sell mylan.

I called mylan couple of times but could not reach them so I emailed them a few times. They called me back and said, currently all strength of lorazepam is unavailable. Mylan lorazepam is backordered but they have not decided the release date yet.

She asked me to contact them in 2 weeks for release date. Anyways...we have to wait. but I wonder if my pharmacist can order it if their wholesaler does not carry it or my pharmacy sticks to another manufacturer of lorazepam (Watson-which does not work for me with terrible side effects).

Re: Marcus (# 224) Expand Referenced Message

I noticed a major change when Activis began making the "Watson" (still using the same molds but not necessarily the same formula). That's what got me into this group...however - the body adjusts after a fashion. The Teva (to me) seemed exactly like the Actavis lorazepam....until it was outsourced to the Czech Republic.....still with the Teva inscription of course....could be my imagination but it seemed a little less effective at first but now I don't notice much of a difference...

Unfortunately, there aren't many generics left on the market. There's the name brand, but it's not affordable without insurance, and it can be difficult to get coverage for it.

Re: Richard H (# 223) Expand Referenced Message

Do you take the ones that say "Teva" on them now? And do they work OK/ It seems like it was what I will take next after having been on the Actavis Watson for many years. I have been worried about the change, as I have had many difficulties with changing brands before when it comes to lorazepam.

Re: Wez (# 222) Expand Referenced Message

Short answer- no. Long answer- as told to me by a reputable pharmacist- Watson lorazepam was sold to Actavis back in 2013...along with the molds...so the 'real' Watson' you've been taking has been Actavis despite the "Watson" name still imprinted on the pill. Then last year, Teva bought the Actavis lorazepam and they did change the molds though they swear they kept the same fillers. When I went to generics back years ago I too found Watson the best.....around 2016 I noticed the letters were a bit blurry and the tablet was a shade lighter...that's when I began investigating.....but between the Watson, the actavis "watson" and the Teva, I found little if any difference.

This brand is what I'm looking for. I have been on this brand for many years and I like it I work in a pharmacy I need this medication because I have severe severe anxiety from being beaten and pause I use it for my TMJ at night. I have tried many other brands of this lorazepam but it didn't work. Now I am on klonopin 0.5 mg and I do not like it, it is not helping my tmj. Are they going to ever bring this Brand back???

WATSON 242 2 pill

Re: Wez (# 218) Expand Referenced Message

Which country are you in?

In the US, I have never seen a tablet with M 2 that is Ativan. Googling that imprint it looks like it may be a medicine called Furosemide by Mylan.

The Mylan Ativan said Mylan on them along with a number (I don't recall what the number was now, but it wasn't 2--something longer).

Mylan stopped making Ativan quite a long time ago now, and now Mylan has renamed itself as Viatris.

Re: joe (# 217) Expand Referenced Message

Yes, i agree. I have found that each new company I have had to switch to has been worse than the last. I remember when Teva switched their Klonopin formula people got upset enough that they changed the formula back, but they said it was still not the same as before they had bought it up.

With Ativan I have been on it since before there were generics, and as each generic company has left the market or sold their formula, it's gotten worse. By far Qualitest/Vintage was the best generic, but that's been gone for so long now. I'm on other medications where the generic has stayed the same over many years, but for some reason Ativan is the one that keeps changing.
