Insomnia While Taking Gabapentin (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Have been taking gabapentin for a week and am having trouble sleeping anyone having the same problem.

My experience with this drug was absolutely terrible. Had trouble sleeping when started on it. Got up to 300 3X a day. DID help pain to some degree, but didn't like how I was feeling otherwise. Decided to get off of it. That was equally terrible -- even moreso. Went into a three (3) week period of almost complete inability to sleep at night. Also had terrible, frightening, strange and disturbing dreams when I was able to doze. I realize every person may react differently/individually to ANY drug given, but I would never never never never recommend this drug to anyone .....even my worst enemy!

Yes me too I have been on 100MG for a week.....BUT that is too higher dose so will be coming down to 50MG today......i am not impressed with this drug and as I need my sleep, if i am not happy with 50MG i will stop it..I prefer to have the MS problems than not been able to sleep!! xx

Same problem. Was on it for problems with sciatica. I'm a night owl, so it took me almost a week to realize this was a problem. During the second week, I was wide awake until 3 and 4 am every night even after taking an OTC sleep aid. Went to my doctor than and stopped taking it.

The good news, though, was it TOTALLY got rid of my hot flashes and night sweats. So when I did fall asleep, I wasn't dealing with that for a change.

I take 800mg in the morning. 1600 during the day and another 800 at night for pain. I now sleep 4 hours a day and am extremely depressed. Wtf?!

Wow people I'm very confused about substituting Gabenpentin for Seroquil. I've take Gabenpentin for years for the nerves in my legs and feet and Seroquil for mental stability I'm going to do some med comparison and hope to get back in this forum. Me personally I have not slept in 3+ years and have learned to accept it, because Dr's don't care and live to mess with you mentally and emotionally by changing drugs at their convenience it yours.

I've cut down on the Gabapentin dosage to only one/day. So far, I actually feel more like myself and more alert. I even noticed a change in my tennis this morning. I hope this suggestion of trying to decrease the amount helps some of you.

I have just started taking 300 mg 3x daily and I've slept 1 hour tonight. I started taking it for my diabetic nerve pain but its just making me not being able to sleep worse. I'm desperate for some rest.

Doc just upped my dosage of gabapentin to 600mg, 3 x's a day. This is day 3 and I'm up after having gone to bed an hour ago. 2nd night in a row this has happened. Relieved to know I'm not the only one that seems to have this adverse reaction. The nerve pain is better so for now I will continue the meds. Honestly would rather sleep in intervals than be in pain. I have multiple pain issues, including SI joint dysfunction, fibromyalgia, neuropathy.

Same... I just started yesterday but last night was so f***ed up... I had tons of extremely vivid & stressful dreams, half awake, like more than normal, and I feel like I just went through rigorous test taking or something. My brain is sore and that was only for like 2 hours, the rest was just worse than normal insomnia.

I have the same issue. At around day 5 I found it increased my insomnia and while I've always had vivid dreams, this drug is giving me vivid nightmares (when I do fall asleep).

I hear you. I have been unable to sleep until I am so exhausted that I get MAYBE 2-4 hours. Here I am,wide awake in my nice comfortable water bed, but unable to drift off. I am taking it for reducing nerve pain, but frankly I would rather put up with nerve irritability than lack of sleep.

I take 900mg at night and will go for days with minimal sleep. It’s suppposed to make you drowsy but seems to have the opposite effect on me. When I do sleep, it’s up and down all night. Not really willing to stop taking it because it’s the only thing that’s ever helped with neuropathy in my arm. Before, neuropathy was so bad I was digging holes in my arm from scratching. I don’t know if they could prescribe sleep meds with it or what but somethings gotta give.

Take 800 mg 3 times a day. Awake at nite 6 out of 7 nights. Nerve pain is bad but hurts severly without. Bad back snd Sacstia. Also tske cymbalta. Just would rather not accomplish much don't feel like working.

My dr took me off seroquel 3 days ago and stared me on gabapentin! How did it work out for you? I can't sleep!

Second night taking it. Feel asleep easily both nights, but up at 3am both nights and unable to fall asleep again. Started for post concussion syndrome with goal of improving my sleep. Yesterday my PCS symptoms seemed better, but I know they will worsen if I don't sleep.

My doctor put on Gabapentin time re leased for 14 days and I had not problems falling asleep. Since my insurance will not pay for time release I am taking 600 mg Gabapentin 3 times a day and not being able to sleep plus having some weird dreams if I do fall asleep even if it is for a few hours. I think the most I sleep have had is 3 hours straight. Time to talk to my doctor.

I also take cymbalta with gabapentin. I also take 2 10-325 percocets a day and 100 mg fenanyl patch every 3 days. Having trouble sleeping since taking gabapentin. I still have pain, but most of time it is bearable. Was on lyrica, but it was costing me about $250 every month.
