ARE GNC VITAMIN B-6 200, GNC VITAMIN B-12 1000 & GNF FOLIC ACID 1000 COMBINED A GOOD SUBSTITUTE FOR METANX? IS THERE A GENERIC FOR METANX AVAILABLE?
"Neurpath-B" is currently purported to be the generic equivalent now commonly substituted for "Metanx." Prior to the marketing of Neurpath-B, the purported generic equivalent substituted for Metanx was known as "Folast." BOTH of these purported substitutes are/were manufactured by Brookstone Pharmaceuticals, now under ownership of Acella Pharmaceuticals.
Refer to http://www.metanx.com - and click on "Attention Metanx Patients: Important information about your Metanx prescription" located at the top of the page. There you will find letters from the CEO of Pamlab (who manufactures Metanx) regarding serious concerns with the integrity, stability, and safety of the active ingredient XOLAFIN-B (L-methylfolate calcium) found in Acella Pharmaceuticals products (Folast AND Neurpath-B). Pamlab is the competing company in this case (who brought lawsuit against Folast getting it off the market), but the facts and figures do appear to speak clearly to the problem with these purported "generics."
As a Type II diabetic, with neuropathy problems, my husband has been prescribed Metanx for his condition. Starting a couple of years ago, his prescription initiated with Metanx in brand name form because that was the ONLY form available at that time. He experienced improvements during the time he used Metanx and had no problems with the brand name form. Several months ago, when it came time to reorder his prescription, our pharmacy automatically substituted "Folast" which we were certainly willing to try as a cost-cutting measure. However, my husband has NOT found Folast to be as effective for his condition as the Metanx was, and he developed a severe skin rash (allergic reaction) that surfaced concurrently with his last refill of Folast. We cannot know for sure if there was any direct correlation between Folast and the allergic reaction, but there have been enough valid questions raised about the integrity of BOTH Folast and Neurpath-B, that my husband and his doctor have co ncluded it is NOT in his best interest to take either of those products as substitutes for Metanx. The doctor is now noting my husband's Metanx prescriptions as "Name Brand ONLY; dispense AS WRITTEN."
My pharmacist told me that Neurpath-b is being discontinued. I cannot afford to go back to Metanx. Is it true Neurpath-b is being discontinued? Is there another "generic" for Metanx?
I see the debate and concern continues. Neuropath-B is a legit generic . Those of you who continue to belabor the issue need to try the generic form and stop complaining.. If it does not work for you,well.......duh .
If you go to the metanx website up at the top there is a discount pharmacy, when you click on it, it will take you to brand direct health. You can get the Metanx for $144 for 3 months or $48 for one month. According to the pharmacy, all of the generics have been discontinued and this was the cheapest I could find it for.
There is a generic for Metanx now. I have been paying $42, but the generic is $18. Ask your pharamacist.
There is NO generic for Metanx, anyone that claims to be a generic does not have the L form of folate (Metanx) that product would have both the inactive form in their product (racemic mixture). DO NOT TAKE THE RACEMIC FORM. If your doctor prescribes Metanx, please only take Metanx.
A racemic mixture has both the L and R forms of the substance and should be OK, just make sure there is sufficient L form (half of the total weightj). I.e. Metanx has 2.8 mg of the L-methylfolate, make sure the generic has this or 5.6 mg of methylfolate or it may say L,R-methylfolate (two name for the same racemic mixture).
$78 is really expensive for Mextanx per month. And the generic is not the same medical food?
prescribed Duleek-met new tablets made by Seton, in place of Metanx. Is this the same B6, B12, Folic acid amounts as in the Metanx?
thanks!
The question was asked is Duleek-met New the same as B6,B12, folic acid Metanx? I never saw an answer. Are they both the same. and is Duleek-met New a generic for Metanx or not?
my pharmacy just gave me duleek-metanx in place of my metanx. should i take it. i did not ask for the change.
I AM WANTING INFORMATION ABOUT METANX. I HAVE
PER. NEUROPHY AS A RESULT OF A TICK BITE.
I DO NOT HAVE DIABETES. WILL THIS METANX HELP
ME? WHAT IS THE COST?
All the hype abt Neuropath-b being a legit generic. I use Neuropath-B and it does what it is perported to do. for me. I say try it for one med. fill. If it dosen't work you may have to pay 60.00 for Metanex. What could hurt?. I pay a 3.00 copay for Neuropath-B and it calms my lower leg concerns. My CVS pharm has had no complaints. I say "try-it, You may save a bunch
my pharmacist told me the same thing. I am very interested in any replies to this question. I was offered folast as a substitute, which is the same co-pay as neurpath-b, so please add remarks about this drug.
On 7/19/11 CVS told me that Folast, Neurpath AND Metanx were all backordered and none were available. They didn't know when any would become available. I have used all three.
You're lucky if your health insurance pays for Neurpath or Metanx. Cigna will not pay for mine, so it's about $60. They say they do not pay for vitamin supplements, which is a pile. Where can I get a rundown on the ingredients in these two drugs? Has anyone tried combining OTC vitamins in the amounts contained in these products? Any luck?
Just came home tonight from CVS with Neuro-B, for $4.62. Metanx had been costing me $28 with a fair amount of help from my insurance. The pharmacist says both are available without problem. I do not think they are exactly the same, but willing to try the Neuro-B. Interesting to me that Neuro-B publishes the contents ad Metanx seemingly does not.
List the ingredients side by side, then explain how they could be equivalent? They may both work for some people - which is not the definition of generic equivalency.
Hal, Glad to hear you bit the proverbial med bullet and are trying the metanx generic .Give it 30 days w/o forming an opinion. If it works for you (three cheers). My post#17 was of value. Why all the posts trash the govt approved generic(neuropath-B) before even giving it a try is beyond me. Regards try-me
