Inactive Ingredients Of Qualitest Or Leading Pharma Lorazepam (Page 5)

What are the inactive ingredients of Qualitest lorazepam or Leading Pharma lorazepam? Does anybody know?

It seems that its formula might have been changed because I feel 1mg is less effect than before or does not work. I used to take Ativan 1mg before abroad and one month from Kaiser in the U.S. but they gave me refill as generic lorazepam (Qualitest). I felt 50-60% effectiveness compared to Ativan(brand lorazepam). I can't take Watson lorazepam as it does not work for me causing side effects (rapid heart beats, sweating, anxiety, dehydration). Qualitest has less side effect (less dehydrated than Ativan) I did not have physical dependence on Ativan for long time and quit too. But this generic lorazepam is getting less effective over a few months.

Also my pharmacy had changed Qualitest to Leading Pharma without notice so I had to get new transcript for new pharmacy for qualitest (I transferred once).

I did not take it for mental problem (anxiety or panic attach) but for side effect of levothyroxine (I should take it as I got my thyroid gland removed). Ativan has calming effect and reduces heart beats, sweating, and stiffness and helps sleeping a little as I suffer from some pains. It does not fix my problem but reduces temporarily. Zanax does not work. Cymbalta does not work. All depression medicine does not work. With Cymbalta, I became unconscious and was hospitalized. I almost died taking Prozac due to side effects and worsened my symptoms. Ativan only helps a little.

I called most pharmacies in LA but many of them sell Leading Pharma lorazepam and some sell Watson. Most pharmacies do not receive return once it is opened (only one pill is taken) while Rite Aid does and during the period of medication, patients can't buy another lorazepam even with new prescription so if the medicine cause side effects or does not work, customer have to wait until refill period comes.

I found only one pharmacy selling Qualitest lorazepam but most others sell Leading Pharma, I don't know why but maybe because of their marketing. So I may change to Leading Pharma but am worried that it does not work like Watson.

I wonder if anybody tried Leading lorazepam and if it works, though effects are different according to each individual. Ativan in the U.S. is very expensive ($2600 for 1mg 30 tablet) and most doctors do not prescribe it and insurance is mostly not covered or do not want to pay for it. That's why Kaiser gave me brand Ativan only once and changed it to generic.

Re: Deedee (# 33) Expand Referenced Message

Perhaps because i’m Taking some old Watson along with the Leading Pharma lorazepam ...i’m Not noticing a difference between the two. I spoke to someone who has also been taking lorazepam for many decades as I have (only not as large a dose as I take) and when I asked her who her lorazepam manufacturer is..she said Watson. Then callled me back as she hadn’t looked in several months..to her lorazepam is lorazepam ...turns out she’s been taking Leading for several months without know it. I think the inactive ingredients determine how effectively each manufacturers med works for different people....plus there is some degree in belief in a manufacturer. She is now feeling anxious since I told her what has been discussed here....I mean anxiety-anxious..not worried....the brain is a powerful organ.

You got very lucky finding the 1 mg of Mylan. A whole group of us have been going crazy trying to find out if they’re discontinuing or not. Yes, after several people have personally been on the phone with Mylan reps, they are indeed stopping when this small amount they have left is finished in manufacturing. I’ve had yo switch to the 0.5 mg and just double the dose. Last month I tried the Watson, which used to work and felt like I was in withdrawal all month, super high anxiety and felt awful. Now just 3 days into my Mylan brand and I can’t take my normal dose even bec it’s too strong. We need to get a petition out to the FDA to stop making these sugar pills which make us sick and don’t work. Good luck to you??

I found out after my problem at Walgreens yesterday that the store has no say in what MFG they get.
Had to switch to Walmart.

Re: Richard (# 20) Expand Referenced Message

I just got a new prescription of 1mg Lorazepam at Walgreens where I always go to get it filled. Was I surprised. Last script was Watson which I did well on. I thought I was getting the same pills, but was actually Leading Pharma. They are super sweet like a sugar pill. Just about as ineffective. They dont really take care of the anxiety unless I take more. Then my script will run out faster and I will be in sad shape. So I think I will be going back to Walgreens and find why they switched. Then call around to other pharmacies to see what they have. Then I’m calling my Dr. to hopefully help.

Walgreens just switched. I thankfully checked before I left the store. Had to go to Walmart to get it refilled. Leading Pharma seems to be popping up all over. I can not take this brand either. Put me in withdrawal.

Hi! I thought I might be losing my mind. My pharmacy just changed from Watson to Leading for Lorazepam. I could not believe it, but it hardly works at all. I don’t know what to do. I guess I will go to the pharmacist and then tell my dr. about this ineffective pill. I’ll call other pharmacies to see what kind they sell. I will go through this prescription in no time!!

I’m confused...did Leading Pharma work for your sister or a “leading brand” didn’t work?

Re: Savannah (# 26) Expand Referenced Message

I would love to hear if any person or group ever did a blind study to find out just how affected we are by the knowledge of our medication sources we believed in vs those we have been switched to (manufacturer-wise). I know some days years ago I was taking the brand name Ativan (I guess because I took it so many years)...I thought I forgot a dose...I was extremely anxious....extremely high blood pressure occurred, panic attacks, you know the feelings...turned out I DIDN”T miss my dose at all....when I saw that I calmed down immediately....so in retrospect my belief over-rode the reality that I did take it....this sort of thing happened several times......conversely there times I forgot to take the Ativan...but was convinced I had...yes, I felt anxious but interpreted this as a positive feeling as I was enjoying myself with friends and family.....not realizing I was feeling the washing out of the Ativan....I had a belief that whatever negatives I was feeling, the Ativan (which I hadn’t taken) would keep me calm.....the mind is very powerful both negatively and positively.....I think because of panic attacks and such we’ve lost trust in our ability to trust our feelings and coping abilities....best of luck to all of us to do the best we can with what we have....we all share this anxiety syndrome that we’ve given so much power to........btw, Ativan....(unlike Valium that can take 3 weeks to wash out of the system).....Ativan washes out of the body rather rapidly.....it was a main selling point when introduced.

Hi, so I suppose diff drugs could be more effective for some then others. My sister was put on leading brand. I did not know this. Many things she takes seem to be more effective for her and she rarely has any side effects. She took the leading brand and has been on a low dose for about a year. She took a leading brand and felt like she took zero meds. I had withdrawal symptoms three days into my change. The lorazepam and any other benzo can have a 20 percent either way diff in active ingredients. My husband called to see how we could have it evaluated and the lab told him the same thing, that it could be less active. The lady also told my husband that the fillers they put in the drugs depending on how much of each can change how or if it’s absorbed properly into ones body and therefore could change the effect of the drug.

I was on Watson brand for years and I thought it helped me as well. I did have a lot of jaw pain and thought it was break through anxiety. Once I changed to mylan that went away. Watson was stronger or diff then the Actavis. You mentioned mixing the leading with your other manufactured brand. I think the real test will be once you are on it only. Our tissue in our body’s absorb the med and it takes several days to completely get out. So you may have enough of what you had been on in your system still. You could do fine with the leading brand. I think it depends on how bad your anxiety is. Thank you for Saying the pharmacist says it can take a few days when you change a manufacture to adjust. I believe that’s what you meant? I never had a major issue up until now and where I live they only have two brands leading and Actavis. Leading did nothing for me and Actavis made me feel very uptight. Thank you for replying!

So....what i’m taking away after reading this forum is:

Watson is/was good until it was taken over by Actavis and now does nothing for some people but good for others..

Mylan is good for many but for some people it’s awful giving really scary side effects or is not strong enough.

The brand name Ativan is great but unaffordable.

Sandoz was good for some but not for others.

Qualitest worked for some but not for others but it’s not available any more anyway.

And Leading is hated by all because it isn’t affective.....did I miss something? Is it possible that some generics work (like Leading) for many people but people who are happy with a generic and its available don;t write to this forum? Just wondering ...I know I dreaded changing from Watson and now I have to.....and reading this forum I find what i’ve Been taking for years is the ‘dreaded’ Actavis version...good grief......

Re: Savannah (# 23) Expand Referenced Message

So you are all saying no one at all has had success with Leading? Isn’t there a possibility that only those it doesn’t work for have posted here? I was taking Watson...apparently the last few years by Actavis..and many had difficulties with that too..yet it worked for me.....I;ve been mixing the Leading with the Watson this week and really cannot tell the difference......I spoke with a psychopharmacologist yesterday and he said that there’s very little leeway in tranquilizers in generics unlike the SSRI’s where there is a huge difference in manufacturers. But he said what’s good lorazepam for some people is terrible for others because of the inactive ingredients. I doubt these businesses could stay afloat if EVERYONE found their product useless. He also said getting used to a new generic manufacturer is often as much mental as it is physical. So.....no matter what, I’m stuck with this controlled substance for 3 months (how the the prescription is for)....no new prescription for lorazepam can be written until then..

Re: Richard (# 16) Expand Referenced Message

It is worthless for me ! Please contact the fda ! They need to get this garbage out of the pharmacy . It’s so unfair that we have to suffer . Mylan was the very best for me . It worked fine ! Go to the fda drug page . Anyone who has more anxiety like I did / withdrawal symptoms . Fda is the only who can do something !!!! They need reports !

Re: Deedee (# 21) Expand Referenced Message

I called mylan As well only med that worked good for me . They told me they were no longer making it . Please let me know if they do???? Also , please go to the fda and make a report on the leading brand and Actavis / Watson. I am trying to get calmed down with reg Ativan now . I have been through two weeks of hell on the leading brand . I had to go to my dr . I had horrible anxiety . Felt like a sugar pill only . If they get reports on the fda drug more then two they will research it . I have been with sever anxiety disorder since 1994 . Mylan was the very best brand generic . We need them for us !! My insurance will not cover Ativan cost . We are fighting it . My doctor said it’s a necessity for me ! I paid 3000 for a 20 day supply of Ativan .

Re: Richard (# 20) Expand Referenced Message

Leading is total garbage!!! I’ve been having severe panic attacks for years and never had problems until they switched me from Qualitest to Leading. After one month of having no help whatsoever and it actually tasting like pure sugar, I did my research and found out Mylan was the only reputable company making this. They’ve been on nationwide backorder so I tried Watson which I thought was a good company until I just found out that Sandoz bought out the rights to make lorazepam. It’s an absolute mess right now. I contacted Mylan and they’re supposed to start making again by the end of May.

Re: Richard (# 16) Expand Referenced Message

That's interesting. I went back and read older posts. Some say it can be 20% off. Not a good thing when it puts you into withdrawal.
Recently tried to taper down. Not a good ecperience.

Re: Judy (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

Interesting. I was using mail order who used Leading. Switched to CVS and didn't pay attention to the Mfg. until I had an adverse reaction. Back to using Walgreens or Walmart who uses Sandoz or Watson.

Judi (# 14) --

Actually Leading (listed as ‘Major Pharma” on the bottle but mfg: Leading on the insert)....is literally <1000 feet from my house. I contacted them several times but they just give me generic answers like “our product is approved by the FDA”. I get 3 months supply at a time....if Leading is worthless i’m In trouble...i’ve Been taking 2mg 3x day for over 30 years....

Richard (# 13) --

I had to stop Ativan from Leading. I starting having panic attacks. Talked to them in New Jersey and sent back my prescription to be tested. They said nothing wrong. BUT was told by my Doc that these drugs can be as much as 15% difference. So I had started going into withdrawal. Watson and Sandos work fine for me. West Coast. There is a reason why Leading Pharma doesn't charge as much as Watson or Sandos!
