Inactive Ingredients In Propranolol (generic For Inderal)

This past month, Aug.,2011, Insurance refused to pay for my Inderal so I had to take the generic propranolol. After two weeks of dizziness, I looked for the inactive ingredients on the internet and found that propranolol contained sodium lauryl sulfate as an inactive ingredient. No wonder I was dizzy--how can that stuff be allowed in our prescription drugs? It's a detergent and skin irritant. I understand the liver cannot process it. Any comments on this? Thank you for your time Joyce

The inactive ingredients can differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. Did you look for the ones specific to the manufacturers product that you were taking?

In this case, the sodium lauryl sulfate is used as an excipient, which means that it's inactive, but acts as a carrier for the active ingredients.

It is safe and approved for this usage.
