I realize this is a post but this may help someone in the future. My husband ran out and the first day he did mot take his metformin 1000 it was like he exercised and got lactic acid around all his joints. Painful 24 hours every day till he got back on metformin then came off slowly. We just notice he was out. There is side effects to metformin but couldn't get any was over the weekend. We googled it and found some amino acids for example L lysine and L argentine helped with the lactic acid issues and continue to use them now for the benefits they give us. Hope this helps.
I'm not a doctor, but I can provide you with information on the medication.
Gabapentin is not an antidiabetic medication and it will not do anything to help control blood sugar levels and it will not work for pain, like a regular analgesic or narcotic would, either.
Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant medication, but it has been proven to help with certain types of nerve pain, however, it does take 4 to 6 weeks to reach its full effectiveness in the body and help with this type of pain.

And, as I said, it will not do anything to help control your blood sugar levels.
Why/how did you run out of the Glyburide with Metformin?
That is also not a medication meant to treat pain, these two drugs are oral antidiabetic agents that are used to help lower and control blood sugar.
Thus, the only way they help is by helping to keep your blood sugar levels lower, which can help prevent further nerve damage, but they will not treat existing damage or do anything for the pain.
