Lactobacillus(Trade Name: Darolac IBS 299V)traded in India by Aristo Lab is being used by me at present. I am interested to know whether any new more effective drug is released without any side effects.

My wife, aged 73 years has been suffering from IBS-D for nearly 2 years. Based on doctor's advice, colonoscopy test was conducted. The result was normal. Many consultants prescribed several prescriptions starting with IB set, Stelbid 2mg three times a day etc.etc. Finally she was advised to take lactobacillus capsules under the trade name: Darolac IBS 299v. It has been giving temporary relief with 2-3 weeks treatment. Of late, she is getting mucus with or without semi-fluid stools. She was 43kg before and now it is 41.5 kg. Otherwise she is normal in her activities. She is diabetic and her HbA1C level has come down from 7 to 6. I am at a loss to think of a better drug to give her a lasting solution.
