I No Longer Have A Tolerance For Xanax Or Any Benzo

My tolerance for alprazolam xanax any benzo is ridiculous. I no longer feel the effects and I suffer severe anxiety and depression. Xanax, ativan, valium, & klonopin have no effect. Even at 40 milligrams in one dose I barely get comforted. What could be the cause or why is this happening? Can someone please answer this? Please and thank you.

After almost dying during a CT withdrawal in 2010 I reduced my intake from 3 mg a day to 2. At the same time my doctor had doubled, really tripled my supply. Part of using this terrible substance is the anxiety in knowing where your next doses comes from. When you have a bunch of reserves its like that feeling goes away and I am now even more comfortable with breaking a bar into 4 segments and just using one daily

Are you still taking the xanax? Just wondering if going on thr like lower dose helped? Or did you stop them all together?

when I take just a 1/2 of a 013 small round blue Xanax it usually kicks my ass & knocks me out then I'm drowsy the next day as well! the strangest occurred which I find somewhat suspicious, I haven't had a Xanax in 2 weeks and I don't take them often, however last night I took a 1/2 of a 013 after having 2 drinks and the Xanax had no effect on me! what the hell could be the reason for that?

I feel so sorry for you. The only thing you can do is to try and come off the benzos with a slow taper. There are many ways to do it, and people are different, but in the end you have to come off it to get your life back. I found that Trazadone worked very well to help me cope coming off the terrible, terrible things that are called Benzos.

That was prudent advice on Verwon's part when massive doses of Benzo's are not working. Nobody should take 40 mg per dose, per day or per week, nobody!

PLEASE don't tell Pearlee to try Prozac or any anti-depressants' for anxiety attacks!!! I have had sever anxiety attacks since I was 16, I'm 64 now. Anti-depressants will cause more attacks, I know, I have tried them all. I don't know of anything else to help her but I do know that valium works for me. I wish I had more to offer. But please, stay off the anti-depressants!

Correction: Not 40 mg a day, 40 mg a dose in my post above. The O/P has a serious problem and should be seeing a Psychiatrist at once and consider hospitalization immediately?

Verwon, we count on you for some educational advice when needed as well? Xanax & Benzodiazepines are a psychotropic medicine which works on the brain. NO One in their right mind should be taking 40 mg of Xanax daily and they should be informed of that? I've been taking Xanax for 30 years now, thought I was developing a tolerance, spooked my provider and was given another Benzo at my request. Within two weeks I was almost dead and now even take less after learning how powerful this medicine actually is. Anyone who is taking 40 mg a day is not well, obtaining them illegally, you and I know that. While it was a good call to mention anti depressants, you should have pointed out the absolute danger in this medicine, if not when taking it while discontinuing it?

It is normal to build up a tolerance to any medication that you've taken for a long period of time, there's no precise time frame in which it may happen, it can vary from person to person. Sometimes, your tolerance will decrease, if you take some time away from taking them.

Have you tried any of the antidepressants that also work for anxiety, such as Zoloft or Prozac?

They are both classified by the FDA as SSRIs and their typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes.
