I Need Advice On Getting Disability
UpdatedSo approx. 3 years ago I applied for disability. I was out of work on fmla for approx 15 days a month and it was taking a hard hit on my financial state since fmla days aren't paid. My dr said his advice was to apply for disability. This entire process was long and exhausting as some of you know. I had rotator cuff tendonitis, fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome, radiculopathy in my c5 & c6 disk in my neck, Iliotibial band syndrome in my right leg, depression and severe anxiety. All 5 of my doctors (ortho, pain mgmt, rheumatology, pcp, pshyc) stated in my files and paperwork they provided to the state that I qualify. HOWEVER, here's the kicker, the state then decided to send me to a few of their own doctors who seen me for approx. 15 minutes and don't know me or my case from a whole in the wall. All in all I got a letter back saying I wasn't approved. My situation is severe yes, but it doesn't stop me from working. I figured it had something to do with my age. I was 29 then, and I decided not to appeal it. I am considering reapplying because my conditions are getting worse. But I am curious, does having a lawyer really help? And am I maybe listing TOO MANY things wrong with me? I am beyond upset because I just don't understand why, if the docs that have been following me and taking care of me since day 1 say I should be on disability, how a few lame ass docs that don't know me at all can see me for a few minutes, make an observation, and the state will listen to them and override my own doctor's decision? That's absolutely bogus to me! Any advice on how to get disability and if a lawyer really makes the process easier will be greatly appreciated.
