I Just Found Out The Fda Pulled Asthmanefrin Off The Shelves (Page 4) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI've been sitting here crying because the pharmacist just told me that AsthmaNefrin was taken off the market. I look on the internet and it's been recalled by the FDA because it has caused chest pain and has many complaints. This decision by the FDA will kill people like me because I get a paradoxical reaction to Albuterol and Levalbuterol. They work completely different. Different drug. If I go to the emergency because I can't breathe, they save me with ephinephrine, the same drug that AsthmaNefrin is. And look in any drug book, Albuterol and Levalbuterol has worse side-effects than Epinephrine. I have to have my rescue inhaler with me everyday. The Primatene tablets are horrible, causing extreme anxiety and don't mix with my antidepressant. I was on cortisone for years and now I can't tolerante at all. I've stayed healthy and my lungs are good using Singulair and AsthaNefrin. Singulair can't stop an asthma attack. This is really going to ruin my life! What am I going to do?
I agree! It's wrong what they are doing. I couldn't find Asthmanefrin yesterday, again and the Walgreen's pharmacist told me they were discontinued along with other over-the-counter drugs in question of safety. She told me to go to a doctor and get on Albuterol. I said, I did that and I can't tolerate it. It gives me asthma. Then she said, try Advair. I said, well that is steroids and albuterol. She said, oh ya.. So I now can't find it again and have called everywhere. Walmart says their product is out of stock along with the other outlets that Nephron Pharmaceuticals list on their website. They won't call me back after 2 days. Didn't answer the phone. So my husband ordered some on the internet. Kind of scary. Hope I don't get poisoned. :(
I'm sorry to hear that Saphrona! I was in my CVS about a month ago and I saw the Asthmanefrin refills there. I was actually planning on buying a couple of boxes this week to stock up for winter.
This is an update about trying Albuterol with a nebulizer as apposed to the canister. It was a failure and I woke up with a terrible asthma attack and my lungs hurt. I don't want another night like that one! When I took a puff off of the nebulizer, it made the room spin for about 10 seconds. It makes my heart pound and Asthmanefrin (racepinephrine) doesn't unless I have to use it too many times. Since I started using Singulair, I haven't had to use my rescue inhaler nearly as much when the seasons changed. Yes, I had been on steroids for many years and stopped in 1988 because I couldn't tolerate it any more. My asthma actually got better after I stopped. I still can't find out why the stores and their websites have taken Asthmanefrin off the shelves. And Nephron has still not called me back after 2 weeks of trying and leaving 3 messages. I am very upset about this!
Dan, thank you SO much! I have been upset about this and couldn't find out what was going on. This is GREAT news for me!!
Diana, Wheezy and Jackie M: Thanks for the info. It is not at any WalMart in my city or any other store. They told me they can't order Asthmanefrin any more so after the ones on the shelf were gone, I won't find it. I looked on the internet. No store outlet is selling it. They all say, "out of stock". So I called Nephron pharmaceuticals many times and no answer. My husband has been ordering it from Ebay and it's getting more expensive, which usually means, the product won't be available soon, and you don't know for sure where it came from.. Why aren't they telling us what is going on?? So sad for all of us! Terrible situation for me since Albuterol gives me asthma! I did find a prescription form of it a few days ago named Isuprel, generic name: Epinephrine Solution. Maybe. It is listed for kids and used with a nebulizer. I will ask my doctor. This is my only real hope. :(
Hi, Linda. Asthmanefrin was not discontinued. I am able to get it through my pharmacy and recently, my doctor helped me get it with a prescription. My insurance is actually paying almost half the cost. My pharmacist says there are no plans to get it taken off the market. Albuterol makes my asthma a lot worse also. I won't use it. It gives me asthma and then takes my lungs days to recover. I hope you can find it. Good luck
Hi Paul! Thanks for this information! It's been so hard taking the plug-in nebulizer when leaving home. This powder product is great for that! It's a crazy life being in this situation when Primatene Mist gave us so much freedom at a fraction of the cost. They still sell cigarettes and other dangerous stuff people might get and abuse, like mouthwash. :) What screwed up priorities the people in charge fall into. And why do we asthma sufferers have to wait for a drug company to come forward and save us? I hope you are doing well! Thanks again!
For the time being you can still find Asthmanefrin over the counter at eBay and Walmart. {aff link}
I SEE YOUR POST WITH GREAT Hope, That Astmaferine is still available!!! Could you tell me if you have received a shipment from their website? {Please PLEASE Please)
Hi John. I personally haven't ordered from the asthmanefrin.com site since I have a WalMart close by that still stocks it occasionally, thank God. You can also try WalMart.com. There is another source I forgot to mention: FamilyOTC.com. I did order from them some time ago and received it fairly quick. They sell it for $35 a box w/free shipping for orders over $99. Good luck! Isn't it ridiculous the length we have to go through to get relief?
Hi, I read there was a nationwide store recall on AsthmaNefrin atomizers, but what about the devices people bought and still own? Did they [AsthmaNefrin owner] ever issue some type of recall with a refund to the general public? I currently own 3, all broke and useless to me for about 3 years now. Can I get a refund for all the AsthmaNefrin units I bought?
Re: Saphrona (# 62)
I am Saphrona. I forgot to write: I get the 1/2 off deduction from the price of Asthmanefrin because I went to my doctor and had him prescribe it for me. Shopko pharmacy gives me a pack of 30 for $25. It's saving me a lot of money. Thanks to my doctor and Shopko!
It's worse now. Now that Obamacare is in full force, the inhalers for Asthma like Albuterol and Advair and in fact all the current medications for chronic illnesses can be controlled. So they have hiked the price up sky high. Without insurance, Advair, for instance is upwards of $1200 per inhaler. If you have Platinum or (highest level of the Affordable care act) you can get it for $50 copay. Anyway, the government, through the FDA wants to kill off all the chronic illness sufferers. With them gone, or at least significantly out of the way, it makes it so that the public will more easily accept a single payer system. With a single payer system in place the government can systematically kill any group or people they wish. However, ultimately, this will cause life expectancy to rise, because of the ability to kill off the compromised. So they'll say, "Oh, since we've gone to single payer we are so much healthier, people love this system..." So now you know.
Re: Saphrona (# 15)
Does anyone know if you can purchase Primatene mist? And where?
Thank you.
I am a pharmacist and was curious why the asthmanefrin starter kit is no longer available? My daughter has asthma and I’ve thought about trying it because the albuterol doesn’t help much and I have other customers asking me as well.
Re: Sherri (# 74)
Sadly, Primatene Mist has been off the market for years, courtesy of the stupidity and apathy of the FDA. (Sorry for the editorial). As an update to my post # 72, I tried the EpiMist product. It is a little pricey and unlike Primatene Mist, cannot be carried in one's pocket. When one inhales it, the mist is so fine that you can't feel anything. It is not nearly as effective as Primatene Mist was. I would estimate about 50% as effective. But it is better than nothing. My favorite alternate is still AsthmaNefrin, assuming one can find a decent atomizer or nebulizer. Thankfully they still have the refills available.
According to a March 2018 conference call from Amphastar, the maker of the original Primatene Mist is hopeful in getting the new Primatene Mist back on the market, maybe later this year! If true this is huge! Of course, since the FDA is involved nothing is guaranteed, and I won't totally believe it until I get my grubby little paws on a unit at the store. However, this is the best news I have heard about an asthma inhaler in years...
Re: Saphrona (# 2)
Where do you get Albuterol from? It's a prescription only med as far as I know. Albuterol is what I should be using but requires constant repeat trips to er. I'm using asthmanefrin as a substitute but the relief is very limited in time
Re: RxStallion (# 75)
If you need a nebulizer for Asthmanefrin buy the OMRON NEU22V for $169.00. It is a high quality japanese made item. I have had mine for over 3 years and never had a problem with it!
Sadly enough, Asthmanefrin was recalled because the head of the FDA wanted to force people to buy Obamacare. That was the article that came up at 3am this morning. I think they said his name is Michael Cohen. He needs to be fired immediately and tied to a tree where we can all go by and spit on him. I’d rather whack him with a bat, but that’s illegal. Spit would be very fitting.
