UpdatedII Have Chronic Pancreatitis And PDr Had Me On Dilaudid But It Only Worked For About Two Hours As Well Percocet He Has Changed mypain meds to low doses of Percocet & added long acting oxycontin. However oxy gives me bad headaches & can take up to 2 hours to kick in & then puts me to sleep! Does anyone know of a different pain med that will help the pain immediately without side effects so tha I can function like a normal human being? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

If you are fortunate enough to live in a state with legal medical marijuana, it is the best possible solution for your dilemma. You can ingest or vaporize if you are averse to smoking. If you are new to all this, many shops are ready, willing, and able to educate you as a patient. God bless and good luck.
I have the same health issue, along with others, if you want immediate anything you'll have to get a different delivery. Even immediate release takes an hour or so. Oxycontin is extended release & is intended to be continual. I can't use an extended release because my enzymes don't metabolize it enough to be able to use it! Are you hydrated enough when you take the meds? Headache can happen if you aren't. When I'm having a pancreatitis attack I sip H20 & sometimes lick some salt while it's going on to keep hydrated enough for the oral meds to work.
Have you tried an instant release pain medication, in conjunction with the Oxycontin?
There is an instant release formulation of Oxycodone that's available as a capsule and it does just what it sounds like it would, it starts to work as soon as you swallow it, rather than taking some time. So, it can help provide relief, until your Oxycontin kicks in.

There's also an instant release Morphine that works in the same manner.

When I was in and out of the hospital for awhile, because they thought I had pancreatitis, but we finally discovered it was severe gastritis, they gave me the instant release Oxycodone and it help a lot, until the other medications could help my stomach start to heal.
You are not, however, going to find any that don't carry the risk of causing side effects, I'm sorry, but that's the nature of how it works when you add foreign chemicals to your body.
Additionally, if the Oxycontin gives you bad headaches, there is a time released version of Morphine that's also available, there's a generic and a name brand MS Contin.
You also have to remember to take care of yourself by following a proper diet to avoid further irritating the pancreas and causing severe flare ups. That means eating a very low fat diet, avoiding anything spicy, not drinking anything alcoholic, nothing acidic and taking antacids, if it's safe for you to take them.

Anyone get spinal cord stimulator for chronic pancreatitis? Have had a whipple surgery in past for bike ducts not formed right and only have 20percent of pancreas left
I also have chronic pancreatitis that is getting worse. My Dr. at the pain clinic had to move to Ca. He used to have me on 30mg morphine 1 in a,m, 1 in p.m. and oxycodone 10mg 3-4 times a day for breakthrough. I had to stop going for 2 years because I lost insurance and when I went back the dr. said I could go straight narcotics or try some narcotics with other things. Its been a year and those things aren't working. Now the NP seems to have forgot what the Dr said and they don't want to up my meds to the old way and I don't know what to do. It seems we are in the same situation. Have you had any ideas? I'm afraid that asking is going to make them think I'm drug seeking but I'm in going to lose my job, actually I have. Maybe we could work together and come up w/ some ideas together since we have the same diagnosis & medication problem.
Hi, I suffer from chronic pancreatic, I have only ever until now been prescribed codeine' ! 3 year diagnosed and I have suffered in over wellming pain! It wasnt until I showed the consultant my back scaring from using hot water bottle he advised my doctor to address this! It took them forever to find out what the was wrong with me considering I am 44 only sober for 14. I havnt ever met or spoken to anyone that has this chronic illness. Getting to the point doctor prescribed me pregabalin for back pain and I must say touch wood there fantastic. Notice help my anxiety . I was on procac 12years for depressions, so its second WK on sertaline now so having side affects of both. Things can only get better. Smiely face.
Pregabalin is fantastic for the pain. And I don't get that heavy ache in the morning, and still take 6 codeine' a day. Coming up 3 years sobber and still suffer badly I though giving up the poison I would feel better. Having camera down throat next WK they don't sedate me enough. I hate it. Is it something they do each year dose anyone know.? Hope to hear from you smily face.

I THINK I HAVE PANCREATITIS I'M ON METHADONE BUT IT'S NOT WORKING I'LL go to the hospital cuz" it's getting worse can doctors give narcotics pain meds if I'M on methadone
Re: Maggie (# 9)
You may have a problem getting opiates since you take methadone, this is due to the opioid epidemic, doctors are very hesitant to prescribe opiates, the new go to drug is Toradol which is an NSAID, it supposed to control inflammation.
Pancreatitis is inflammation of the Pancreas so take Motrin or toridol with a narcotic if needed That's what my doctor did I was giving toridol and no narcotics after 3or4 days it got better
