My doctor gave me 20 mg white, scored pill with writing on one side around the pill and 25. I cann't see the words. He took blood tests and said my a.m. cortisol was very low and my adrenalin was insufficient. I don't understand what he is talking about. He gave this perscription for Hydrocort 20 mg 1 pill day, 1/2 pill p.m..I don't know if this is serious or what it even is. I don't like my doctor because he gets mad if I ask questions, but twice he gave me the wrong medication, and they had to do emergency surgery right away, or wi would have lost my foot. Another surgeon did it and told me he opened my foot and stood back, that is how the infection inside just exploded all over everything. That wasn't the first mistake my doctor made. I go to him for arthritis. Please help me. Is this serious or can I take pills from my the doctor I go to for my spine.? Thank you so much. I hope u can put my mind at ease.

Hi JoAnn,

From an outside perspective, it really sounds like you should switch doctors to one that actually listens to you and answers your questions without getting frustrated. He is likely getting upset because he doesn't have the knowledge or know how to answer your questions appropriately. In that regard, I think it best to adhere to advice from a doctor that has more compassion for his patients.

As far as the insufficient cortisol & adrenalin levels, it is something that can become problematic if left untreated over time. I wouldn't take it lightly, but at the same time, don't get too concerned about it or the stress of worrying can inevitably make things worse.

Hydrocortisone, a corticosteroid, is similar to a natural hormone produced by your adrenal glands. It is often used to replace this chemical when your body does not make enough of it. It can also be used to relieve inflammation (swelling, heat, redness, and pain) and is used to treat certain forms of arthritis. If your doctor diagnosed you correctly, then this would be the right "prescription" medication to take for it.

I hope this info helps!
