deb how about alleve its naproxen sodium an otc anti anflamatory, works great for joint pain, its advertised as the all day pain reliever.
@Deb,
Not here to spread misinformation, but according to The US National Institute of Health Acetaminophen DOES have anti-inflammatory effects. And while it may not have 'as strong' of an anti-inflammatory effect as typical NSAID's, its presence goes hand in hand with the drug's overall effectiveness and therefore shouldn't be ignored:
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19788149
it will help with the pain but not so much for swelling. try alleve or motrin for swelling.and an ice pack
@Tissue,
RE (post #1): Acetaminophen is an anti-inflammatory drug, so I don't see how it wouldn't help with the swelling. If it didn't, that would certainly contradict its drug classification, no? Hydrocodone on the other hand will probably only help with the pain aspect.
However if you're (original poster) on the lookout for other anti-inflammatory agents to help ease a swollen lymph node, I would encourage things like herbal tea, ginger, raw coconut oil, and raw honey, along with Turmeric. Certain Essential oils may also prove to be beneficial depending on which one's you work with.
From your description it sounds to me like you may have a sinus infection, as I overcame a similar set of symptoms just a few weeks ago. But in the event that symptoms don't improve, it might be worth getting checked out by a doctor first in order to make sure you're taking an appropriate course of action against potential bacteria.
Thanks for the feedback. I am glad to see that I have been getting some anti-inflammatory relief from the acetaminophen after all. My doctors always seem to despair when they note that I am allergic to aspirin and ibuprofen and are trying to figure out what to recommend that I use.
@k
Looked up Naproxen and found this comment : You should not use naproxen if you have a history of allergic reaction to aspirin or other NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug).
Acetaminophen is NOT an anti-inflammatory mefication. It is used for pain and fever relief. You could try aspirin of ibuprofen for inflammation. I am allergic to aspirin and ibuprofen and take acetaminophen as an over-the-counter remedy for pain/fever but am out of luck when it comes to need OTC anti-inflammatory.
