2 REPLIES UpdatedI'm prescribed to take this drug for all life on a daily basis (not related to hypertension). Does anybody takes it on a regular daily basis? Are there any severe side effects of long-term use? ## Hello, Wise Mike! How are you? This medication is classified as a diuretic, which is used to remove excess fluid from the body. Yes, some people do take it daily for life, due to high blood pressure, congestive heart failure or edema/fluid retention. The most common risk to long-term use is dehydration, if you don't take in enough fluid each day. There is also a slight risk of kidney damage. The FDA lists other common side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and increased urination. Is there anything else I can help with?
1 REPLY Updatedcan you still use hctz 25mg. that expired 5/15? ## Hello, Blondie! How are you? It would be best to dispose of it and contain a fresh supply, medications tend to degrade with time, so it may not longer be as effective as it was, when new. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and dehydration. Is there anything else I can help with?
1 REPLY UpdatedI have only been on HCTZ for 3 weeks because of high blood pressure readings, and I have seen a definite change in my hair. There is total lack of body, and even my husband has noticed the thinner quality of my hair. I am afraid to comb it for fear of seeing more hair on the comb, but at this stage it is more a total thinness. Is 3 weeks too short a time for this to happen? Previous to that I was on a different blood pressure med briefly, called Diltiazem, right after my foot/ankle surgery. But I don't see thinning of hair as being a side effect for that med. Was wondering if anyone else experienced this problem while on HCTZ and if so, was there anything that can be done to help. This is causing me a lot of stress. Haven't had this problem before and don't want this to get ...
2 REPLIES UpdatedI was taking a blood pressure med that contained HCTZ. I developed a terrible rash opn my forearms and then it begin to come out on my lover legs, torso and back. I went to my dermatologist and they took a sample from my arm for biopsy and it came back that I was having a reaction form it. I had been to my doctor just before that and was recalled because they said my blood sugar was high 7.8. They diagnosed me with type 2 diabetes. I went back to my doctor to have them give me a medication that did not contain HCTZ. I had researched it and saw one of the other side effects was high blood sugar. I spoke to my doctor about it and she told me to come back for blood work after I had been off it for a month. I went back and my blood sugar was only 5.2. I did not have diabetes. If you are tak...
1 REPLY Updatedhow do you take the med???and how late to take not to make you get up during the night???? ## When I was on them, my doctor always had me take it in the morning, to try to minimize the chance that I would have to get up at night and go the bathroom. However, Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic, it helps remove fluid from the body and, as such, there is really no way to completely eliminate the possibility. It is supposed to make you urinate more and urinate more frequently. Have you discussed this with your doctor? Can it affect your hearing? ## I was given this drug along with lotrel to control blood pressure I was asked by a hearing doctor if I was taking this drug I would like to know if this pill has anything to do with hearing problems or loss of hearing. ## There isn't anything about hearing problems listed in the drug monograph for it, however, the regular patient monographs do not list ALL side effects for a drug, they only list the most common or most dangerous. You might try asking your doctor or pharmacist. ## Can you take hydrochlorot at a low dose with extended release morphine of 15 mg. i just had knee surgery and i need any information you can give me, such as side effects. ## Here's a link to the monograph with information on side...
13 REPLIES UpdatedI am taking this medicine for almost 4 years. It's been over a year with the pain. Every time I get a Pedicure it is really painful when they massage afterwards. First I did not think a lot of it but it got so painful, even my arm muscle hurt when you touch. ## Hello, Mary! How are you? The FDA lists Hydrochlorothiazide as a diuretic and muscle aches are among it's possible side effects, along with nausea, dizziness, headache and dehydration. And therein lies another possible issue, if it's causing you to be slightly dehydrated, that could also cause these types of symptoms. Is your urine light yellow/almost clear or very dark? How much liquid do you take in each day?

3 REPLIES UpdatedToday I recieved this but it is a blue tablet with ( 5 0 3 ) on one side of it and the letter M on the other side. the pharmasicst said that it was a generic brand that has a beta blocker in it. I do not know what that is either. And this is my first time having to take any type of high blood pressure pill. Can you tell me if this is correct or not. Yes, this does happen to some people that take it. It happened to my dad several years ago and went away as soon as he stopped taking the medication after consulting his doctor. 1 REPLY UpdatedCan i take chlorTabs Equate with HCTZ together? ## Hi, Sherrie! What are you taking the HCTZ to treat? If you have high blood pressure, then you may not be able to take the Chlorpheniramine. Many antihistamines can raise blood pressure and heart rate, so they may not be safe for you. Have you consulted your doctor? Another option would be to look for something such as Coricidin HBP, there are several formulations of it available and the HBP is used to specifically denote them as being safer for those with hypertension.
