How To Take Medication, Before Or After Meals

I am unclear as to how to take this medication. My doctor just told me to take in the a.m. I have been told to take it before meals and others say after meals. I am unable to reach my physician at this time.

In our facility we administer the med at 9am; once we are sure that breakfast is available and is eaten. Every individual has a special case and deoendant on how fragile your diabetes is, the doctor may have more specific concerns on when to take the drug(ie if you are fasting or vomiting etc) Since the doctor stated that the AM is the time frame the doctor may not be concerned about the before or after aspect of the dosing too much. But do folow up with the question. The key to diabetes control is the diet/weight management and prescribed exercise with the medication regimen taken with consistency. Regards, Shaunn RN

I am taking following medicines to control diabetes.
metformin 1000---1-1/2-1
gliclazide 80mg....2-1-2
pioglitazone 30.---1-1/2-1
galvus met 50/500---1/2 morning.Please let me. know how to take the medicines before meal or after meal?

To answer the question of relevance…

In most cases, these types of medications should be taken just when you are getting ready to eat your meal. That way, they have time to start working to help control your blood sugar, by the time you start digesting your food, which is when it will start raising due to your meal.

Most of them take about 15 to 20 minutes to start working, which is about the time it takes for you most people to eat an average meal.

However, if your doctor has specified otherwise, then please follow their instructions.
