How To Get My Suboxone Rx Cheaper

My wife decided to change our health care plan to save me a few bucks and apparently they fast talked her or she didn’t catch it all.. but long story short, while speaking with Cigna / marketplace / healthcare.gov, they told my wife and I that our copay would simply jump to $40 from $20...

OK, I can live with that, at least I thought, until I went to fill my meds today. Apparently we don't have a copay ... well let me rephrase that: it doesn’t kick in till we pay our $8000 deductible. I have never heard of a deductible having to be met to get meds (visits to docs, etc, ok). But I been paying 20 bucks for 2 years straight for my meds and today I was quoted for one 30 day supply a price that exceeded what 2.5 years of my previous medicine costed me.. $500 plus dollars!

Sorry for being long winded but outside of a damn Rx app for discounts can anyone give me some advice on how to fix this? Spending $300 a month on insurance and then $500 a month on meds just ain’t no where near my comfort zone and it almost upsets me more that they’ve taken advantage of my foreign wife who knew no better. I was there listening to the whole recorded convo. The increase in copay was explained but never along with the words "oh yea, this copay kicks in after u pay your million dollar deductible".

I’m in a tough spot as this medication saved my life. It sure beats the alternative. What do i do? Who can I speak to ? By the way, when you use an rx discount card, not 1 dollar goes towards your deductible. Any feedback would be appreciated! God bless & happy new year.

Hello Aaron,

A few things come to mind, first is how long have you had this new insurance? There should be a window that you are allowed to cancel with no penalty, I would recommend that you and your wife go talk to the insurance agent together. If that doesn't work out you can discuss with that agent, or another one if you feel like this one is not looking out for your best interest, the option of getting a different insurance plan and then discussing with them in great detail your plan.

If neither of those work you can always look to see if there any kinds of deals or programs that fit your specific medication. Most of the time these programs require you to make below a certain amount of money.

Most of the chain pharmacies give a good AAA discount if you have that. It made my $90 Adderall only $30 and the pharmacist told me a customer’s $900 pet medication was $90 with the discount.

Hi Aaron, I was just wondering what kind of suboxone you are taking and also, is it stipulated to you what kind you have to take, such as generic or brand-name only, i.e. the film as opposed to the tablet, which comes in generic form. I was truly horrified to read your situation. I take it your employer doesn't offer insurance and you pay out of pocket for private insurance. When I first started taking suboxone years ago, I had AETNA through my employer and had a $10 a month copay. Times are really changing and not for the better. It's also good to know that an Rx savings card doesn't count towards your copay, a place such as GoodRx, which helped me quite a bit a few years ago. The healthcare situation in this country is a real atrocity. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

Oh, and a P.S.....I'm not sure if you would qualify, but every suboxone patient is entitled to one free year of the medication - like a "hard times" situation. I don't know if you would qualify, but it's worth looking into. Here is the link: needymeds.org/Suboxone

Find out what works out cheaper with this coupon ...one month's worth or 3 month's worth. In my case (with a different Rx) my doctor was prescribing 1 month's worth and my price was $16 but when my doc finally switched it to 3 month's worth, my price came down to only $6 for all 3 month's worth!
