How Many Clonidine Pills Would Be Considered An Overdose? (Page 3)

I was just informed that my family member just took 7 Clonidines. Is this an overdose? Please answer as soon as possible.

Dr. Rational, If you have to ask how obesity and the joint commission are related, the manual was updated in April of 2017. You are a doctor right? Also, sometimes helping people means telling them the truth about what healthy, safe, and not so healthy behavior is and sometimes this involves weeding through the BS to get to the truth. It sounds like you are butt hurt by proxy. I did mention whether there was a tone in my post or otherwise that these individuals should bee seeking the consult of qualified health care professionals, so if you happen to be offended by my post, I don't really care.

Yeah, it doent hurt. But i seriosy hope you mean 0.1 not 1.1, that would be 11 times the starter dose. It normally only goes up to 0.6 in severe cases.

No, this is not an overdose. It will make you sleep a while. this is only 0.3 mg.

Yes, ask your doctor to up your dosage. Don't just take more off your own accord.

My small 9 year old has been taking 0.3 for years now plus 9 mg of melatonin to sleep. He's almost 4 foot and 41 lbs mostly all bone. He has actually taken 0.9 mgs clonidine and nothing happened. All kids are different but it won't hurt him. I'm on 12 mgs of clonidine at night plus another sleeping med. I once took 35 of my meds and all it did to me is make me stay up all night. I am perfectly fine with no other side effects. I know clonidine can help with sweating but the best med I found to work for that is oxybutynin. I'm on 20 mgs in the morning and it works 99% of the time. No med is perfect at working all the time.

its an overdose if you take as many the doctor did not prescribe to you so he say take 1 and you take 3 you overdose.

I recently overdosed on Clonidine. I took 7-9 0.1mg pills. I don't remember if it was 7 or 9, because I started getting sleepy and my mind was hazy at that point. I am 16, 135 pounds, and 5'6". I was rushed to the ER when I told someone that I had taken too many. If I hadn't have gotten treatment immediately within an hour I would have gone into a coma and most likely died from heart failure. If you accidentally take more than prescribed You Need To Get Immediate Medical Help. Call 911 immediately, as you can't drive when under the influence of such medication. Clonidine lowers blood pressure and heart rate. An overdose can easily be FATAL. Please be careful and only take what is prescribed, and if you feel you need a higher dosage ASK YOUR DOCTOR AND GET IT APPROVED.

My sister has severe autism and took four 0.2 mg of Clonidine. What will happen to her? Will she be okay? This is an accidental case but she picked up my pills and took the last four.

I think you will be fine. I'm incredibly depressed and considered taking this drug. I'm so tired of life. I've lived thru much abuse, alcoholism, and addiction.... I'm looking desperately for help and acceptance now that I'm sober but can't find it. The ER is full of mean nurses and seems to belittle and degrade me so I don't want to go. I'm exhausted from this...

I can relate to feeling completely alone. I wish I could do something to help because I know how much pain you're feeling. Don't give up. She can't force you to move out. Get into a job and find an apartment or rent a room from someone. Your life will change soon. Don't give up. I'm praying for you.

Technically, taking anything above and beyond what is prescribed to you is considered an overdose. Therefore, if you find yourself or another patient having to take more, it should be contingent upon the prescribing doctor's approval (for your own safety).

Based on data from the MayoClinic, the usual recommended dose of Clonidine for adults and children vary depending on what ailment you're prescribed it for (i.e. ADHD or high blood pressure).

For adults taking Clonidine ER for hypertension, the usual dose is 0.17 to 0.52 mg per day.

For adults taking Clonidine IR for hypertension, the usual dose is 0.2 mg to 0.6 mg per day, divided and given two times daily.

For teenagers and children 6 years of age and older prescribed Clonidine for ADHD: Starting dose of 0.1 milligram (mg) once a day, given at bedtime / Dosage may be increased at the doctor's discretion.
