How Many Tylenol 4's Equal One Oxycodone 10

Hello Iv had a torn Achilles in the past and other sports related injuries. I'm having rotator cuff surgery in a week and the doctor won't prescribe me the oxycodone 10's until the date of surgery. I'm in decent pain how many Tylenol 4's can I take at a single time to some what match the oxycodone 10's that helped before to try and get some relief thanks in advance

Hi George,

Converting pain meds is an iffy subject, because conversion charts are merely just a guide and results can vary greatly from one individual to another based on cross tolerance levels and several other underlying personal factors. However, just to give you a ball park figure, it has been speculated/rumored that 10mg of Oxycodone equates to about 90mg of Codeine.

Tylenol #4 contains 300mgs of Acetaminophen + 60mgs of Codeine.

So, "theoretically", in order to reach 10mg of Oxycodone from the amount of Codeine in Tylenol #4, you'd have to take 1 1/2 doses (equalling: 450mgs of Acetaminophen + 90mgs of Codeine).

Depending on how often that dose is taken, it might also be a good idea to keep a close eye on the amount of Acetaminophen you're ingesting (which we all know can cause liver damage in higher cumulative doses).

Never the less, you should always consult your doctor before making any adjustments to your prescribed dosage if you want to earn their trust/respect as a patient when it comes time to refill...
