How Long Is This Going To Last
UpdatedOn June 16th 2015 I received my third Prolia inj. The first two did not cause me any pain but I have had weight gain and insomnia from the first shot. After the third one, on June 17th my hips spine shoulders neck were so painful I could hardly walk. I am 70 years old and have been very active in my life.
I feel old for the first time in my life. I am depressed, fatigued, I lack strength and stamina. I will never take another Prolia inj again. I am a retired nurse and read the possible side effects but since I didn't have reactions of pain on the first two, I went ahead and took the third shot. Biggest mistake I have ever made. My question is how long are the side effects going to last?

Hello, Carol! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're so miserable.
As to how long the side effects will last, there is no definitive answer I can give you. It can vary from person to person and may range from a few weeks to a few months, according to what's been said by others that have had problems with it.
Other side effects may possibly include administration site reaction, irritation and constipation.
Can anyone else chime in with how long theirs lasted?
I had the same problem half way after the first injection - back ache, pain in upper legs and difficulty getting out of bed - never again will I have a prolia injection
Hi Carol, I finally found out about when on the net. It will be after the 6 months of Prolia are up and if not then, add another six months and you should be back to somewhat normal, whatever that is, after Prolia. I am now studying Immunology on-line at a University. Amgen told me I should be better by the 5th month. Pood.
To All-been on Prolia since it came out for my incurable osteoporosis-both my forearms snapped in half so my endocrinologist jumped at trying the new Prolia since ALL other meds for osteo have done nothing. but leave me with broken arms. My new density tests actually show slight improvement after 15 years of decline-for me side effects are totally worth it since I do not want broken legs etc. In reality the pain you describe I cannot differentiate from pain I already have from DDD,Scoliosis, fused sideways kneecaps,Kypholsia (sp), fibro, plus more. There is one possible side effect not certain if from Prolia but I have developed a dandruff-like skin peeling on my face that isn't severe but it comes and goes in spots. Otherwise I am thankful for not feeling like my bones will break if I sneeze for the first time in 15 yrs. Had tried every pill on market (Fosamax, Boniva, Evista, Actonel, plus Forteo daily inj's. when they 1st came out FDA approved right before Prolia). It is my experience everyone is different so that we each will have different side effects. I simply have not had any really bothersome side effects, only positive improvement.

I'm in my 5th month now and Amgen was correct, I feel 100% better. In fact, so much so that I am scheduling needed surgeries after the 6th month is up. It's so nice to know there is life again after going thru h e double toothpicks with Prolia. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Will there be another? Not in my lifetime!! I'm waiting for someone else to come out with something that works without killing me while doing it. Prolia does build more bone but it's bad brittle bone so we are going through all of these horrid side effects for zero reason. Pood
Carol~Amgen writes you should see your MD when getting the skin problems. You may want to call Amgen and tell them you are now having problems and, of course, if appropriate, the FDA. Be well! Poodle
Chris~I read for the Prolia to really work you have to take it for 10 years. It's not just an injection or two. It is giving up your whole life for 10 years for this to work. I'm hoping someone will come up with something different that does not tamper with our immune systems. Be well~Pood
