I just wanted to tell you that if you clean the area you put your patch on with alcohol and make sure it is dry your patch will not fall off it is the oils in your skin that is making it fall off in the shower since I started doing this I have not had my patch fall off once.

I am also an RN with a Master's Degree with my main experience being in ICU. However, the last year and half I have worked for a pain management clinic.

To be clear, OPIOIDS DO NOT SHOW UP AS OPIATES ON COMMON DRUG SCREENS.

A pain clinic will typically give you a drug SCREEN, which will be either a 10 or 12 panel test that immediately shows up on the cup. THEN, they send the urine to a lab for a drug TEST that runs a GC/MS or an LC/MS.

The SCREEN (the initial cup test or dipstick test) will only show certain things. The TEST (when they send it to the lab) will show EVERYTHING.

On the SCREEN, synthetic OPIOIDS (like fentanyl) will NOT show up under the OPIATE screen. Opiates or semi-synthetic opioids such as hydrocodone, codeine and morphine will show up. BUT, fully synthetic OPIOIDS such as fentanyl, methadone or suboxone will NOT show up unless they have a specifically purchased custom screening cup or dipstick to test for those things. Once the sample is sent to lab, it will ALL show up.

That being said, if you are testing for something simple like a minimum wage job or school (or the home drug tests you can buy at Walgreen's), OPIOIDS WILL NOT SHOW UP, because they usually use a cheaper drug test such as a 5 or 7 panel screen. They do not pay the extra $300 for an LC/MS confirmation in a lab.

FYI oxycodone is also semi-synthetic, but it has enough synthetics in it that it will not always show up on those simple drug tests, which is why you can buy drug test kits that test for opiates AND oxycodone.

Anyways... The point is that fentanyl, methadone and suboxone will NOT show up on your "average" drug screen. They WILL show up on drug tests that are sent to a LAB for confirmation, or specialized drug screens that have an extra panel specifically for fentanyl (or methadone, suboxone).

I am an (ex) doctor/paramedic/Coroner-CSI, got hurt working / disabled. I cannot and will not, give medical advice but van give information based on case studies and my own experience. I have found depending on a patients metabolism, weight, intake, output.
Fentanyl IV has a shorter span than patches; because patches are absorbed (best route) through the fatty tissue therefore will stay in the bodies system longer, the more MCG used, or less, if a person drinks plenty of fluids, i.e. water, cranberry juice it will somewhat help flush the system in 48-72hr as long as the patient is not a chronic user. When used in conjunction with water/green tea which is a natural "Cleanser" will flush the system of various medications. That's why I use to recommend patients NOT to drink green tea because not only will it affect a medications needed effect, but it is also a stimulant and it may increase dehydration via an in increase in urinary output, as well as some cases patients complained of GI issues. Diarrhea, upset stomach, aggravating ulcers as with any type of caffeine. Do not order any type of urine "cleansing" agents. In some states this is a FELONY. i.e. "altering urine" etc... The best route for cleaning your system is normally. If using green tea: remember to drink plenty of water prior to the day before. I have personally seen seen drinking unholy amounts of fluid show up on a urine lab test as a "diluted" sample. All of which are not good. The best information, repeat, information NOT MEDICAL ADVICE, I can give: If a persons medications are not working for them, but not due to abuse,a patient needs to sit down with their PM doctor or PCP, ask about different alternative medication or dosage. The best method is follow doctors orders. Due to drug abuse in this country. Physician's, including PM clinics have grown scared of prescribing medications. And restrictions / more states making physicians get pain management license or certifications, unfortunately legitimate patients are suffering. I have seen this on a personal level, as well as having seen it with other patients. So if an "Abuser", I respectively would love to see more screening of the legitimacy of " Chief Complaints" so to weed out the dealers BS artists. There needs to be more testing rather than "Red Flagging", profiling, stiffer sentences for CS dealers. Focus on the real problem allow legitimate physicians to treat REAL patients, and weed out dealers and abusers.

Ask to see the lab results. Sometimes they test you.

I don't have a script for the fentanyl patch it was given to me and I'm taken Norco7.5 and they aren't doing the job but I just need to make sure that if I come up for a surprise urine test that it won't show up in my urine.

It shows up because they either have a special dipstick for it or because they send it off to test the levels. Fentanyl is not an opiate per say. If you don't believe everyone here call your local pharmacist...they'll tell you the same thing.

You might want to go back to school a little bit longer. Because fentanyl doesnt show up as an opiate. It is a specific test for fentanyl.ffffff

Opiates are derived from opium and opiates are synthetic.

Opiod means that it attaches to the opiate receptors in your brain. There are few things that are actially a true opiate (coming from the poppy flower) codeine, morphine and heroine. The other goods (hydrocodone, oxycodone, fentanyl, hydromorphone, oxymorphone) are synthetic (made in a lab).... Although there can be false positives on dipstrip tests. That in mind, there can also be negatives that should be positive. Should either occur and you are certain it is wrong. You have the right to request it to be sent to a lab that uses gas spectrum testing and there the truth will be revealed

I use the fentenyl patch as well. They do fall off during shower and I have the same issue. My pharmacists told me about "Tegaderm". It's a clear band aide made by
3M Nextcare $8 for 8 and can be bought at walmart. It goes right over the patch and doesn't come off till you take it off. I know it's hard but try to make it as long as you can on each patch. Save each patch after you take it off for emergency situations. In case you do run out early you will at least have those. Even though they are used some will still have a hint of medicine on the patch itself. Best bet is to skip a patch here and there. Or push it to 4 days instead of 3. That's what I have learned to do. It's hard but once you learn to manage with your breakthrough med. It can work. Best of luck

He is not a moran! Moran! Drug testing has evolved very precise! They can detect what you have taken exactly an also they are able to de yr et which milligram y out have in your system. Such as Oxycontin. Each tablet has the normal make up of the drug it's self . But they have included different color dyes in diffe rent milligrams. Google it there are a variety of additional ingredients in each pill that differs from the other. So opiate isn't just opiate! So do some research before you start calling people morans.
