How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 44)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

I was taking suboxone for a couple years, and it took me over 2 months to clear withdrawals... and then still didnt feel right after and had lingering post acute withdrawal symptoms which included restlessness, Insomnia, Body Aches, and Depression.. Suboxone, if used for a longer period of time then just a 4-8 day Taper to get off a strong opiate, will be harder to kick than the opiate itself. I was on opiates daily and I would have rather of went through opiate withdrawals then suboxone withdrawals. Its gonna take time... and the withdrawals are going to come and go like waves, until they occur less and less, and then you will know when you're in the clear.

I will be off Suboxone and benzos for a year on May 6th. I had a 15 year opiate habit, and 8 years on Suboxone. This has by far been the hardest year of my entire life! I want to say something though...I could not have done it without my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I have pins and needles still when I lay down at night and I still don't have much energy or motivation but I am free. Just continuing to put one foot in front of the other. I will also say that Suboxone is a terrible drug. It causes long term damage to your brain and body...not to mention your soul. One drug is not the answer to getting off of another. You need GOD. I realize I will probably get some flack for saying this but it is the truth. GOD bless you all.

Congratulations Lissy and thank you for sharing your experience, strength and hope. Let's keep praying for all those who feel stuck or trapped by the disease of addiction. There is help available. I tried to take my life April 1st 1981. If it wasn't for prayer I wouldn't be typing this. That was the prayer from total strangers.

Keep praying for one another and sharing the success of the winners!

I have down my dose to 4 mg once a day and was planning on going down to 2 mg a day when I found myself in the middle of an ugly divorce. My husband is having an affair and has filed for divorce so I feel like circumstances are out of my control which are preventing me from stopping Suboxone cold turkey. Do you feel like timing is very important when you decide to put down this medicine or should I just go through it now since I'm already suffering emotionally there's only so much more I feel like I can take

Yes I have been through a divorce myself . I would not recommend stopping them and also my doctor gave me 1mg klonopin to go with it to help cope. So I have been on 8mg subs and 1mg klonopin for six months twice a day with no problems at all. I'm sorry your going through this it's hard I'll keep you in my prayers

I believe in God and some of what ur saying but subs are wonderful if taken correctly they kept me from blowing my brains out. The withdraws from hard core opoaits was more than I could handle my blood pressure went through the roof. Subs and God saved me. You must have been on some weak opaiots or something

Suboxone is only good if used very short term. I could go through detox from opiates standing on my head. Now coming off of Subs is a total nightmare. At least when you quit an opiate like oxys, you know about when it will end...Suboxone withdrawals go on for a very long time though not as intense as the other. I had a newborn and a 5 year old to take care of all the while. The thing with subs is that after you are on them for a couple of years, you no longer have energy and you get tired of not feeling life. I had resolved myself to the fact that I would need them for the rest of my life. You may be happy taking them now but I will tell you that that time will come for you as well. Whether it is your choice or by circumstances beyond your control, you will have to quit them. This world is heading in a bad direction...what will you do when you can't get them anymore? Giving the Lord Jesus Christ my life was the best decision I ever made and getting off subs was the second. I am no longer numb to life. I am 40 years old and truly living for the first time in my life. I can't say if I knew what I knew now if I would go back and do anything different. I will tell you that not having to take something everyday to function is the most beautiful thing to me. The people who are able to break free from this stuff are the strongest people that I know and if one can do it, they can do ANYTHING. I will be praying for you my friend. GOD bless you <3

Subs Suck: So sorry to hear of your unfortunate situation. I would jump off of the subs now as they stand the chance to damage your CNS and you will not know what is going on with your brain until you get off the poison. We will help you. The additional problems caused by staying on subs are life long and very painful. Do not let what happened to me happen to you. I am standing by your side like the rest of your friends on this site. Read at least 200 posts (new to old). The information is incredible. If there is an answer it is here.

I agree...i think the starting dose of 8mg 3 times per day is wayyyy more opiate/partial opiate than the average perc/vic addict takes creating a sub addict...ive seen sub save lives...its so effective that i think its total bs gov doesn't stop the illicit drug epidemic & associated horrors & crimes by giving out sub to those willing to take! ...just mho!

Matthew-They are a temporary fix. Someone told me the same thing when I started Subs and I disagreed with them hard core and said what you are saying and now here I sit, how long is it going to take you? The longer you wait the worse it will be my friend. Not sure if any of you are from Iowa but I was on KCCI channel 8 the other night my name is Rebekah Bourdon if any of you want to check out the story.

Lissy thank you for reading my story, this is kind of how I got here and I am just now starting to get my life back from pain medication and opiates. All of you are strong enough to do anything if you just put your mind to it, keep going guys and keep trying everyday that's the only way. It's no walk in the park believe me I still suffer everyday from the sub withdrawals I have buzzing every morning when I wake up and panic attacks somedays all day but I still get thru the day knowing that someday this crap will end and I can be me again. Feel lucky that some of you don't have the immense pain I do knowing that you're an addict so you don't need a thing. I have highs and lows from getting off the subs, panic attack so I take a 12.5 mg xanax, which I just started BTW because I'm having the panic attacks to the point of feeling like going to er. Then later after the xanax I start to get so tired I fall asleep. Lucky for me I know them things are addictive and my doctor and I don't have secrets so I steer clear unless I have to. Keep working the steps one day at a time. If I can make it thru this alive anyone can. Getting off subs has been way harder then it would have been to get off the pain medication I was on but doctors don't realize sometimes they're doing more harm then good.

Please be careful with the Xanax...I've been off of them close to a year and also the Suboxone one year on the 6th. It's been the hardest time of my life. Don't give up Rebekah. If you can come off of that stuff, especially being in pain, you can do ANYTHING. You have made it through so much already. I just started posting here again over the past couple of days...I hadn't posted since I was 37 days off of Suboxone but it was weighing on me that I really should because of all the others who haven't found the courage and doubt that it can be done. I was addicted to opiates for 15 years and on 24mg of Suboxone a day for 8 years. It is not an easy road to quit but it is by far one of the best decisions I've ever made. I thought Suboxone was the answer for me, maybe it was for awhile but I am living life again finally. I spent my entire adult life getting high...It's so nice to be sober. It's so nice learning to live. As for what you have been through, hang in there and don't let fear rule your life. I too have been a victim of domestic violence. Not to the extent of being stabbed but pretty close. I applaud you for being so brave. GOD bless you.

What are you talking about? I take 2 8mg subutex a day versus 10 nocos a day. My doctor said 6 months to 3 years I'll be clean. And it's the governments fault there are so many illegal drugs here. By making it hard on doctors to give pain meds to the ones that need them illicit drugs are taking over, its cheaper and easer to get and ppl who are suffering will do anything to get relief. It's the i*****s that abuse these drugs that make it hard on everybody, not the doctors, the i*****s who abuse them and give them a bad rap. All those ppl should be shipped off to a distant island far away.

There is no such thing as a 12.5mg Xanax.

Keep taking Xanax at that level and you'll be ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE . It galls me that the ones on those meds flap most about others. Fact is no one is immune from the dependence of powerful controlled meds. I guess by looking at THOSE OTHER PEOPLE you don't have to look within.
