How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 12)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

God bless you, don't mean to put you down, but 6 days are not long enough, suboxone withdraws may linger for up to 1 month.
Today is my first day without taking it after 3 years, and i am very scared.
I already jumped off once 5 years ago, and wasn't pretty at all, i am praying God to help me going through what is awaiting for me ahead in the next 2 weeks.

hi! i am needing advice about a couple of things plz? i was on an extreme amount of pain pills prescribed & not prescribed for about 8 yrs due to very bad back problems. back in 09 i detoxed myself off of them & got clean for 9 months but then i got into taking subs not prescribed! ive been taking 1-1 1/2 8mg strips of subs a day but usually only 1 8mg strip a day. ive been on them now for 5 yrs. ive tried posting a couple of other times but it keeps saying it has to be reviewed but never is & im really needing some help! i am down to 2 subs left & will probably take a 1/2 today but what i am needing to know is should i take a 1/2 today & 1/2 tomorrow & then take the last strip & cut it in 1/4ths for the next 4 days after or should i go ahead & jump & keep what i have for when things get really intense? i dont have & cant get no benzos or nothing like that to help me & my family knows nothing of me taking anything & we live together so ive got to get thru this the best i can without them knowing! i know that in its self is going to be hard but i got to do it! ive been wanting to get off them but i dread the wd as ive went 8-12 days without them before & i can barely stand it! but ive been put in a position i cant get anymore! plus its draining me financialy & i really dont like being dependant on anything to make me feel better! thats why i detoxed off the pain pills before! but i have such extreme pain every day when ive got nothing it makes it so hard! ive read thru this thread & i know other things i can try but whats so bad with me is i start feeling bad as soon as i get up the next day without taking anything! then i want to hyper sleep th first 3-4 days to a week & that makes me feel worse but i can barely raise my head! also the othe symptoms that i mostly have is the chills, sneezing, sweats, nightmares, & pain extremely along with stomach problems & dizziness! i dont know if i can deal with this for 3-4 weeks! the reason im asking which 1 i should do is i dont want to delay it any longer if taking a piece when it gets intense will set me back! the pills took me about 2 weeks to start feeling better but i dont know if i can handle any longer but i know im going to try to have to or my family will find out! also im stuck in the house all the time as i have no car to go anywhere & nobody to take me anywhere so i cant get out of my house to make me feel better! any advice will be appreciated! thanks!

Hi squirt, Tapering slowly is the best way. I don,t know how many mgs your on daily so it,s hard to say. What I,ve done in the past is when I got down to 4mgs I,d drop one mg for at least a week until I got down to one mg.
After a week on the one mg I dropped to a half mg for a week then I,d take a quarter mg for a week then jump.
A week bettween each drop may not be long enough. You should not drop until you feel comfortable on whaatever dose your on.
Tapering takes time but its well worth it because it really mellows out any wds you might have after you jump.
I,m no dr. A previous sub dr I had put me on this taper plan. It works. Your gonna have a couple of sleepless nights after jump so if you could get something to help with sleep just in case may not be a bad idea. Oh ya, get a calendar and mark down each day and dose. I,m not sure why but it kind of helped me to see where I was at with the taper.

Hi Gemini, Sorry your in the situation your in. I really don,t know what to tell you.
Read replys from a woman called "Desperate for answers" in this post. She jumped from a high dose. I just scrolled back and her story begins on reply #95. It may give you some encouragement. If I were you I,d cut what I had left into quarters and take one a day but I,d save one quarter to cut little slivers off if things got rough. This is just an idea. I really don,t know what would be best for you. As I,m sure you know, the best way off subs is to taper slowly. Even though you don,t have a car if you can get out to take a walk around the block it will help tremendously. Post back and let us know how your doing.

thanks jolter for replying back! as of today i only have 1 left as i had posted this 2 days ago but it just now got put up! i guess ill cut the last 1 into 1/4ths & take 1-1/4 for 2 days then save the other 2-1/4ths for when i really need them! i wished i couldve tappered down but i didnt know i wasnt going to be able to get anymore till just a few days ago! i just didnt know if taking a little piece when it gets real bad would set me back any so i was worried about that! im trying to get my body adjusted the best it can before theres no more trying to lessen the wd! my body & metabolism adjusts pretty quickly so im hoping itll help some! im just so worried & nervous! ive dealt with the wd before & i was stupid when i went 12 days to even go back to taking them again but i was still in agony & gave in! but this time i get that far & get off them u can bet no subs or pills will ever go in my mouth again unless i have to have surgery or a broke bone or something serious like that! this has really taught me a lesson! and i would get out & walk but due to my back & some problems my back surgery caused im not able to walk like that. i can walk but its only for like 2 mins at a time! thanks for ur help & ill definately post & let u know how im doing as soon as i can!

Hi gemini, How are you doing? I don,t think taking a little piece if your feeling really bad is gonna set you back. This is just my opinion.
If you were in a hospital/detox setting they,d be giving you something to take the edge off.
Even if you can get out onto your porch or wherever for some fresh air may help.
Don,t forget about warm baths or showers. Hang in there!

Ive been reading this board so long i started on the post from 2011.I was an i.v. H user for 5 years and ive been on subs for 3 years.I just moved from maine to arizona and turned my life around completly.I got a baby due in October and i got a good job when i got here and i hadnt had a good job in years.Im terrified after reading all of this message board cause i didnt have the money with the baby on the way and only me able to work plus the fact we started completly over and only came here with close.I tried tappering down to 2MG every other day and i took mu last peice 4 days ago and work is already an endurance match. For one im not used to the heat here at all and i havnt been able to sleep.I cant lose this job people depend on me and after reading all of these messages it sounds like the only way i can keep us afloat and keep my job is to stay on subs.I cant afford it cause i have no insurance but if i lose this job i wont be able to afford anything.

Hey there. My hisband and I are both sub users for the last theee year's. (From opiates) and I am now only 7 days free of suboxone. He is ten days. The first three days I took methadone. Now I am on valume. It has helped the withdrawl ALOT. And will be much easier to stop. Just some food for though. My husband took ambian. He said that has helped. But the biggest issue is getting out of the house. GO FOR A WALK. EVEN IF IT IS UP THE ROAD. gibes you time to enjoy the little stuff.

Jolter....are you sure it will pass?? I love when I have good days but bam I'll have a bad one out of the blue...it makes me get discouraged!

Hi Desperate, Yes it will eventually. Some people say that they have experianced the paws stuff off and on for a year. Some people think it will last forever. I don,t think so.
I,ve had those bad days off and on for a couple months in the past. The bad days just got fewer and fewer until they were gone.
My gf was kind of up and down for a couple of months too but like me the bad days got less and eventually they were gone.
Ya gotta remember that you put your system through a severe beating and its gonna take time to heal.
Try to do a little excercise on the crappy days. May help some.

Ok never posted anything before. For something like 45yrs i have been an addict. Starting H at 19 cleaned up 1970 after a lot of dope and a lot of withdrawels whenever i couldnt score. Thete was no methadone maint. Available that i knew of. Anyway i relapsed multiple times b4 i got on maint. Took methadone for 18 yrs everyday. Took subs for a yr to get off the 180mg dose of methadone. One thing i know is how to kick with least possible suffeting. No one has mentioned kick pills i know help taper me time after time. Darvon napsylate works well as does ultram. These are narcotics but weak. So weak u cant feel high on em ieven if opiate naive. Along with trazadone u can decrease symptoms to almost unnoticeable. Then just dont pick up and go to na or aa. I know staying stopped is the most difficult thing for folk like me as opiates have been my solution to life not my problem thats me. I am the problem. Anyway feel free to email me {edited for privacy} if u want more info.

Jolter how are you? I'm still staying strong. Went back home for a week where everyone is on something and they ALL like to share! That was a challenge for me! I told them no and they kept trying to give me one, which is funny cause when I was out they would not answer my call! I guess misery truly likes company. I did not take one though and informed them if they are real family they will support me. Was glad to go home! I will say sober l life is a challenge still (with my head) but I feel more alive and awake now. Anyways just a little update:)
