How Long After Taking Suboxone/subutex Can You Take Methadone? (Page 2)
UpdatedI tried taking a suboxone 2 days after my last dose of methadone but am now in withdrawal. Can I take methadone now to bring me out?
First of all I was on 80mgs of methadone for a year then I went to the suboxone Dr. He told me to wait 3 days I waited 24 hours and went into pretty bad withdrawal for about 2 days then I took an 8 mg sub and felt a little better I continued taking 8mg for three more days and still not feeling great so stupid me went to the methedone clinic and dosed I felt better but was angry at myself thinking I'm go into have to go through this whole thing again but no I was fine the next day took 12mg of suboxone and felt okay. I'm just wondering how long I'm just going to feel okay. Because I was on Suboxone for 5 years and it made me feel great I had to switch to methadone because I had to move. I'm so glad I'm back on Suboxone I'm just anxious to feel like I did last time I was on Suboxone. I guess everyone is different because I didn't get sick at all taking the methedone while on Suboxone and I sure as hell didn't have to wait 72 hours b4 my first sub dose
I am wondering who the ****n is on here who keeps down-voting things that are actual FACTS. Down-voting an opinion is one thing, down-voting things that are facts? Not going to help ANYONE.
I went to the methedone clinic after taking suboxone for 5 years and didn't go through any withdrawal at all it was a little uncomfortable but I did it for a year, but I hated methedone it made me sweat constantly and I never wanted to do anything. So I went back to my Suboxone Dr. And I was still on 80 mgs of methadone he told me to wait 3 days then take 2 8mg strips I'm back to myself again. I don't recommend methadone it usually ends up to be the same price to go to a sub Dr maybe even cheaper than to go to the methedone clinic
Your absolutely right when I went to my Dr to get off methedone I was still on 80 mg he gave me suboxone not subutex and said why aren't you giving me subutex for the first couple of days. And He said it doesn't matter they both will throw you into withdrawal if you don't wait 3 days
Joedog1973, I'm exactly the same height, weight and probably age, and I switched from methadone to suboxone and I'm a totally different person it's like night and day. I hope your feeling the same by now from the looks of the day you posted your message you should be loving it. I have energy, interest in things, libido is so much better, but everyone is different. Some people love methadone. I hated it, sweating to death, lazy, having to go to the clinic, it was horrible for me. I was taking 80mg of methadone for a year because I moved. Prior to the move I was on suboxone for a few years but when I moved I couldn't find a doctor so there was a methadone clinic down the street. I felt I had no choice. But I'm back on the suboxone and only plan on taking 4 mgs for a month then two mg for two weeks then going to try to get off of it. Long term use of suboxone will give you the worst withdrawals you ever felt for months, just warning you.
If not dependent on the methadone, and you wanna take the subs. Will it still make you sick of you take it 24 hrs later?
Reply to Lee,
I too suffered precipitated withdrawal syndrome many years ago so I realize the hell this condition causes.I would rather die then EVER RISK THAT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. For the life of me I cannot understand how you could allow that to happen to you for the second time. Did you actually think the staff at that emergency room would be responsive to your ignorance yet a second time. Repeating the same mistake is an indication that your issues may be something more then just a pain control issue. It's that behavior that casts a black eye on pain patients needing legit care at an emergency room and why we are all treated like drug seeking addicts when all we aspire to is manageable pain control.
TAKEASDIRECTED: I thought I knew what BAD withdrawals felt like. That was BEFORE I had the "precipitated withdrawals" experience. OH MY HOLY HELL!!! It is a totally different level. Just a complete nightmare. I was LITERALLY SCREAMING my lungs out. I would get in the bath tub, then out, then in, then out....I was hallucinating, seeing demons and things... just completely horrifying. My spouse started shoving Trazodone down my throat until I FINALLY passed out. I think we got up to 5 or 6 of them. I was a wreck for DAYS, even after I got some opiates in me.
Those of you on here who want to be flippant about this, blowing off our advice about precips and how to avoid them? Please believe me when I say that you DO NOT WANT THIS.
I'm trying to switch from suboxone to methadone.. I took my last does of suboxone the day before yesterday.. How much longer till I can take methadone?
DOMINIQUE: You can take the Methadone now. Don't worry about Precips. It's the OTHER way around that you have to worry about. You are good to go.
Hey, I took 8mg of suboxone and some subutex at 9 this morning. I've been prescribed some biodone (methadone) to try. How long should I wait before I take it?
JUST: You can take the Methadone right away if you are taking it AFTER Subs, but you won't get much effect from it until the Subs leave your system. It is when you take Subs too soon AFTER the Methadone that can cause problems. Are you taking Subs and Methadone because you are a pain patient, an addict avoiding withdrawals, or simply because you want to feel high?
48YRS YOUNG. precipitative withdrawl aint NO JOKE!!!! omg I made that mistake omly ONCE.!! Not that I would wish it upon someone, but going through at least ONCE in your life is an awesome reminder to NEVER DO IT AGAIN!!!! lmfao
DEADHEAD: Amen to that. I actually saw demons. I threw up so violently I had a sore throat for 3 days afterwards. I was literally SCREAMING... I had NO IDEA that withdrawals could be like that. I no longer fear Hell, for I have gone through precipitated withdrawal. Holy s#!+
I have been taking suboxone for just a little while now, and i took my last piece yesterday afternoon, It is now 12:15 the next night... I was wondering if it was safe to take methadone now or at all? I'm going through withdrawals and i heard this helps...please let me know if it will help and be safe to take?
BRANDI: You should be fine to take your Methadone. It is when you take Bupe too soon AFTER the Methadone that would be the problem. GO FOR IT!
Sorry you are wrong take subs then take methadone nothing will happen
Precipitated withdrawals only happen when people who shouldn't be taking it (like taking it to feel high, or because they think it's fun). A patient who has gone through withdrawals knows what they feel like when going through them... Suboxone helps by relieving withdrawals and making a person feel normal. If you take it recreationally you're dumb.. Plain and simple. It's not an opiate or speed buzz, it's a help drug.. Quit abusing it and you wont have to worry about getting sick from it.
SUB8YEARS: Precipitated withdrawals have NOTHING to do with "taking it to feel high, or taking it because it's fun". They happen when someone takes Bupe too soon after full agonist opioids. A person's INTENT has nothing to do with it. Please stop dispensing bad information.
I took a quarter of a subutex tablet, but I didn't realize I went into total withdrawal as I am prescribed 80ml of methadone. Had the worst night of my life. I feel OK but a little out of sorts. When is it safe to take my methadone? I took the subutex at 9:45pm last night. Please help.
