How Long After Taking A Suboxone Can You Take An Opiate?

I have been on 8 mg/2mg Suboxone strips for 1 year. I am having a tooth (back molar) extraction in the morning. I used my Suboxone strip this morning & the tooth extraction is at 9:30 am tomorrow. If I don't use another Suboxone strip before the extraction, would I be able to take Hydrocodone after my surgery? I don't want to get sick, but I am terrified of going through this surgery with no pain meds. Please help.

Absolutely whoever wrote this clearly has not only personal experience, but a well-working knowledge that everyone's brain is completely different. As a former addict with the beliefs of everything the above message indicated, I would say use your best judgment. Suboxone has changed my life for the better, and I would never try to get one over on my doctor that seems like drugs seeking at its finest. You should always be upfront with your Physicians, At least if you have your own best interest in mind. Everyone's brain is different their chemistry is different everyone's Walk of Life is different. Pray on it
Re: amber (# 17)
Amber you didn’t feel the pain because suboxone is STILL an opiOID. It STILL has an opiate in it; and in some rare cases; suboxone is prescribed to individuals for pain.
It fills in the pain receptors in your brain as previously mentioned; so yes, you won’t feel the pain.
It was not the pain pill you took; the combination is dangerous and your lucky you didn’t get sick! Be careful!
Good luck to you all. Be safe guys.

This is the answer I identify with the most; at least in my experience; although the long answer given above was a good one, too.
Good luck to you all. Be safe guys.

I've been taken subs for about 6 months and I had the urge to relapse. I'm prescribed 16mg of Suboxone a day and I took 1 12mg strip at around 6pm yesterday and today I had relapsed. I felt in my head something happening and felt a pinch-like feeling in my heart and my eyesight went fuzzy for about 1 second, then the pinch went away and so did the fuzziness. I definitely feel my brain wanting to feel what I had just done, but other than that I regret relapsing already after 10 min. My advice to anyone is think about what you're doing and is this going to be worth making my heart stop just for a feeling of wanting to feel high? I know I could've been stronger but I know now and my sobriety starts all over again. This possibly happened because i wasn't learning or taking the sobriety knowledge seriously. All in all I'm happy to be alive even after my overdose at the Best Western on 2/27/17 room # 272, which I believe 272717272 means something in my book. I'm just not sure what. I just thought I would reply with what I've just experienced for those on subs thinking about giving in. It isn't worth it.
How long after taking an 8mg subutex do I have to wait to feel an oxycodone 30mg and really get pain relief from it?
Re: Beentheredonethat (# 20)
For sure. I've taken a pain med just 6 hours later and feel it every time.
Re: amber (# 17)
You can not be on suboxone (an opiate blocker) for that long, then take a couple Vicodin throughout the day, and not feel ANY withdrawal symptoms. So either A. You're lying or embellishing to sound cool and different. B. You're lying or embellishing to help out whatever side you took in this debate. Or C. You have no concept of time, or when you took what.
You can take opiates at the same time it just wont work and the risk of overdose is higher. If you take opiates then a suboxone itsfull on world of pain. Its a minimum 72 hours at least. Tr400mg ibuprofen andparacetamol
After being on suboxen for 7 months 2 subs a day first couple of months. then went to 1 sub a day then, this last couple months.half sub a day I haven't had any in 32 hours if I was to take a percect for pain not for the high will it help my pAin? Hurting so bad thanks
Here's my experience: if you take 1 single strip 8mg of sub you'll be able to feel the opiates before 24 hours, it just won't be as strong. If it's a single time use of suboxone to get through sickness: if you take 2mg sub, you'll feel opiates in 12 hours; 4mg=16 hours. I'm a smaller guy but I take 4 mg of subs a day during the week, then take opiates on Saturday. If I wait 18 hours after my last 4mg dose, I usually take my normal 3-4 oxy 30s and I feel them pretty strongly. That's just my case. Hope this helps some people.
Re: me (# 9)
You see, these people do not know what they are talking about. If you are on suboxone and you are in an accident or have teeth extractions, what these *****s do not understand is that your dr will have to give you a much higher dose of the opiate for it to work. Come on people, if an emergency happens and you are in pain, and the dr is going to say there is nothing I can do for 48 hrs, it's wrong.
I have back pain. I have been on Suboxone for two months. I take one 8mg dose twice a day, but I hadn’t taken one in two days. Right now I am in serious back pain and I have two 7.5mg doses of Norco that I need to take for pain. Do u think it will be ok if I take them?
Re: The DUDE (# 224)
It all depends on when you took the Suboxone. AFTER 36 hours coming off a 2 mg strip, Percocet should work. But mind you, you’re gonna have to wait until you’re in withdrawal from the Percocets to go back to Suboxone. Or it will send you into W/D.
I took a 2mg Suboxone film once to see if it would help with withdrawal and cravings, and it soothed the symptoms a lot. How long would it take before I could take a Percocet or hydrocodone and feel it?
So your saying if I been on suboxen for 6 months like 1 a day I want get sick of I take a hydro since I'm hurting I did not take one today I'm really hurting no joke
Re: mahi (# 7)
You’re absolutely right. I’ve been stuck on 1 mg Suboxone for eight months now I can’t go below it. My original sub doctor put me on a strip a day for seven years straight. Now I can’t shake that 1 mg every f***ing day, what is going on here? Sorry for my language, I’m going through it right now. I’m probably being a big wimp, I’ve been through worse withdrawal than this but this is f***ing horrible! Again sorry for my language, I hope people see this post. That’s the only thing keeping me energized right now so I can actually move around. Even 1 mg of Suboxone is too much! I hope doctors see this and do a study on why doctors are keeping people that don’t relapse however, on Suboxone prescribed three strips a day and get away with it!!! I’m calling the Suboxone hotline now. I’m tired of the s***! People come off of Percocet without Suboxone. Trust me!
Re: K72 (# 10)
What if you cut the strips, and wait a an hour so and took my oxy for pain..that worked for me. I s this ok?
LIZ: Depending on how much Percocet they give you, you may be ok to just take the it and no Suboxone. But yes, if you take Sub too soon after the Percocet, you could be in some trouble. I would talk to my doctor and see what the recommend, which they would rather you take. It's kinda pointless to take both, not to mention the danger of Precipitated Withdrawals, which is the LAST thing you need with your injury.
Ty. This is EXACTLY the question I had...i took 8mg suboxone at like 7am and just my luck i smashed my toe into my end table n could feel the bone move had someone take me to urgent care and i fractured my toe. I havent been on suboxone everyday for almost two months. But now i have this injury n I'm in ALOT of pain n on crutches the whole 9 yrds. But i wanted to feel the percocet but not get sick...so thank you!!!
QUESTIONS: Sorry I didn't see your comment sooner. You will probably be able to get pain relief from the Vicodin at this point. And 4 mgs isn't that much. Just make sure to give it time before starting back on the Suboxone.
