How Long After Taking A Suboxone Can You Take An Opiate? (Page 3)

I have been on 8 mg/2mg Suboxone strips for 1 year. I am having a tooth (back molar) extraction in the morning. I used my Suboxone strip this morning & the tooth extraction is at 9:30 am tomorrow. If I don't use another Suboxone strip before the extraction, would I be able to take Hydrocodone after my surgery? I don't want to get sick, but I am terrified of going through this surgery with no pain meds. Please help.

I don't want to scare you but I had surgery 7 weeks ago. I didn't take my suboxone for 6 days before my surgery. Btw, I've been on suboxone for 4 years. I told my surgeon I had been on subs. When I woke up from surgery, I thought I was dying from the pain. They were giving me all the pain meds they could but they did not work. They finally gave me a block threw my neck and it was a lifesaver for about 10 hours..

The most important thing to know is that if you have Suboxone in your system it won't cause withdrawal to take an opiate. Mostly the Suboxone will block the action of the hydrocodone and it won't do much. Opiates are terribly ineffective for dental pain anyway so I would just add one suboxone for after the surgery depending on pain level and that is it. Well besides Ice and Ibuprofen of course. The person who took 6 days without Suboxone before surgery, well that is not good at all and would make the pain difficult to treat.

I have been doing no more than .75 mg of suboxone a day for 3 weeks now, and getting ready to come off of it will I have bad w/d from that short of time? The reason I started them from the streets can't afford sub dr. I have mutiple sclerosis and was on pain meds for 25 years and I'm sick of running out bc the pain dr will only give 2 percocet day and a fentyl patch which made me throw up all the time, and the dr told me I would get used to that, but I never did so I quit putting the patches on. The 2 percocet 500s a day barely does anything, and it was costing me a fortune for injection all the time and these pain drs don't care if you're in pain here where I live. I just wish they could be in my body once and then they would see how much pain I deal with, lot of back problems too! I took about .25 mg of suboxone and I'm in alot of pain would one percocet work if I took it? I took seven 8 mg strips in 21 days I started with about a gram, and cut it down to .25 of a gram now, will I get bad w/d now that I'm done after Today ?

I was on suboxome years ago, I don't think you can take any opiates right after because it takes time. More than few hours or days.
However, not a whole year. The worst pain med, I ever took TRAMADOL you should ask for. It's safe with suboxone!! Keep in mind, it may not be an opiate, but it's super addictive and has side effects..you can't stay on it long.
I'm only suggesting it because it's a somewhat strong pain med, for after dental care for example you can take with suboxone,

I provide this from personal experience of my own and others I know who are or have been on subs. You don't even start sub withdrawal for 5 to 10 days. Acute withdrawals can last 6 to 9 months or more. The minimum I have ever heard of is 60 days. Subs are potent and binding. Think twice and research before putting one under your tongue. This is the most addictive and hardest med to get off of. The lingering effects of this medication are way underestimated and not disclosed by the manufacturer. Suboxone is the only opiate that stores in your fat cells. It provides a miserable and very long lasting withdrawal. Few people are able to take the time to get off. Find an alternative to your addiction other than subs. Sub addiction is the worst.

You only get precipitated withdrawals while you're still.afdicted to the ORIGINAL opiate. Taking a pain pill once does not an adfiction make. Worst case scenario, you would feel nothing from the vicodin at all including ansgesia. I was treated in the ER and gave me IV morphone and even dif very little for my pain because i was on methadone at thate time. It's a scary situatiom. Say get in an accident and break your lef, there will be little that can be done for your pain. they give you enough to relieve your pain it could very well cause respiatory arrest. This is my primary reason for not believing in suboxone for maintenance. At least with methadone they can increase your dose for pain control. Wit sub, the ceiling effect may prent doing this.

I agree with this. While on suboxone, I got very sick and was in a lot of pain.
The doctor ordered a shot of morphine, I could not take it..
They gave me a shot if toradol, which did nothing. Well, the doctor wanted to know: why??
I told him, I'm an opiate addict.
I'm off the suboxone, I won't take it again, no regrets. It got me off opiate pain medication. But it's dangerous in case in you get in an accident or something.
I took suboxone for 9 months

Tommy C!! At last, the voice of reason! I refuse getting suckered into these pharmaceutical sponsored, money-making machines for addicts.....people ask why addicts go again & again. It's cuz Drs, centers, pharmaceutical companies, whatever, who prescribe an alternative but also rotten med, brings them repeat business $$$$$$s. Slowly cutting down off whatever, having someone giving you the lesser amounts daily if you can't manage it is the best way.

You can take opiates 5 mins after you take suboxone lol. You just won't feel any euphoria because of the naloxone, but bupe binds stronger to the brain, meaning opiates can't access the brain. When the suboxone makes you feel lazy or no energy or depressed or withdrawal, take a 30mg oxy and I guarantee you'll feel it. But just for example, I'd taper the sub then get on a xanax taper and be clean all together Imo tho.

You only go into withdrawal if you take suboxone too soon after you just took an opiate. So if you do take them wait 24 hours before taking another sub or you will go straight into withdrawal.

Carmine. You will only get sick if you take the hydrocodone or oxy first and than try to take suboxen an hour later. If u take a suboxen than an hour later u take a hydrocodone.it's fine u might not feel the affects of the pain pill and that's only thing. If u don't feel the affects wait longer. I know this by personal experience by the way. I hope this helps

I as well took suboxone an hour before being put under, when I woke up, I got my perception of lortabs filled and immediately took one. I had many teeth cut out. And I continued to take my suboxone as described and also took the lortabs whenever I had pain. I never got sick and for those wondering, I never got high from the lortab.. But as they repeatedly mention on this thread....everyone is different
