How Do You Know When You're In So Much Pain, You Should Get Off The Roxy's ?

I've had 2 failed back surgery's, I hurt so bad, through the years, yes I have taken more than I was suppose to, but changed Doctors 4 months ago and have done as told 5 Roxy's daily, with Gabad, (spelling sorry) the nerve meds for my hip and legs. I lead a pretty good life on these meds, but I get quite emotional and cry a lot because my life as good as it is, revolves around these damn pills. I am on a short leash with new Doc, see him every 22 days, except not wanting to spend the money, I don't have a problem with this. I quit smoking pot after 43 years in Jan '13, it sucks, I wish I could be given the medical stuff, not to try and feel high, but to help my pain, I live in GA, I will never be able to legally. To imagine, a pot pill and no narcotics. That would be so cool !! I guess my question, when is it time, to change to maybe the patch and try to get off the Roxy's ? I know I am now addicted, the Roxy's work, I just hate depending on them, day in and day out ! Thanks for reading.

I used to be on oxycontin for 6 years then moved up to dilaudid for a year. One day i said enough is enough, I had neuropathy from my diabetes.and I cut the bag and dumped it in the commode and removed my picc line (iam a nurse would not reccommend that for non medical people) I went through withdrawal worse than any movie you have seen. I got through it and went to the cleveland clinic and they put in a spinal stimulator and it saved my life! I would be dead if i was still taking the amount of med i was then. Sometimes there is an alternative, you just have to look for it and want it bad enough. Oh yes I was on as much dilaudid as I wanted for 9 months before I pulled the picc, hardest thing I ever did and with no medical help except for a med to slow my heart rate so I didnt stroke out. Stopping taking medication can kill you so please dont ever just stop without notifying your Dr first!!! :)
Hello, Jan! How are you doing? I'm sorry about what you're going through.
Did you mean Gabapentin?
And as to feeling emotional, the Oxycodone may actually be contributing to that, since it's basically a depressant. You might need to be on something to help mitigate those effects. Have you discussed it with your doctor?
