I too take pain meds for chronic pain and suffer from side effects u mentioned. I'm usually not a proponent of herbal remedies, but for nausea, peppermint (real peppermint) like chewing gum, altoids, or tea help a lot. Also, ginger. U can find candies at any Asian market. Or I'll take a knob of fresh ginger & peel, grate and make a tea. Some say chamomile tea works too. Good luck and hope u find relief.

I'm in pa treated fo r pain at a clinic that does not believe in break through meds or the generic opana 40 mg which used to really help. I'm treated with 3 op 80s a day n they suck. I'm also a Marine injured in combat. Thing is I have all my med records MRis catscans and x-rays if u could point me in the direction of a clinic or doc with different beliefs I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm in Pittsburgh pa thank u

You must have developed a tolerance for OXY. There is no real difference between OP 80s and the old 80s. i.e.both contain 80 miilligrams of oxy. In Canada they are called OxyNeos..same thing. I know a few Dudes who were taking quite a bit and finally they went to a Doctor and were put on methadone. What I do is use Dilaudid (8 mils). I use this for breakthrough. Works VERY well. The old style OXYs do not exist here n Canada anymore. I hope that helps a bit at least. MW

Did you try getting prescribed 30 mg oxycodone.( Blue pills). They can be chewed. Not supposed too but its up to you also you can get the fentynal patch in 25 50. 75 or 100 you stick it to your leg or arm. And its transdermal. Goes thru skin. Theres also lolipops. Yes. Loilops w fentynal in them. Fentynal is strong As hell. Semper fi marine. I was in 1st mar div

The new oxycontin (OP) and the old version (OC) both contain the same amount of oxycodone, the only difference is that you can't abuse the new ones. If you chew them until you have a mouth full of jelly then swallow them they pretty much act as instant release, it's just more time consuming than the old ones which turned into powder. They're not meant for breakthrough pain, that's why they have other oxycodone formulations like Percocet and Roxicodone. Roxicodone is exactly like the old oxycontins without the polymer coating. To the Marine who had the helicopter accident you should talk to your doctor and explain you need medicine for breakthrough pain, there are many things out there. There's Vicodin, Percocet, Roxicodone, Opana IR, dilaudid, fentanyl nose spray and buccal tablets, morphine IR, and recently some pain clinics are actually prescribing methadone. Methadone is excellent for pain management because it is 3x stronger than oxycodone and has a super long half life. If you're used to taking a couple hundred mg of oxycodone in a day, you could take 80mg of methadone once you wake up and be completely pain free for the entire day. They're not as euphoric as oxycodone but if your main interest is being pain free I would say methadone is one of if not the most effective pain medicine. Every type of pain medicine has a recommended way of taking it and another way of taking it which makes it either kick in faster or release more of the drug at one time than if taken as prescribed. Every pill can be chewed into little pieces or into powder which makes it kick in faster or release more of the drug in a shorter amount of time. Fentanyl patches can be cut into strips and you could suck on the strips as opposed to wearing the patch.

This can be dangerous depending on your tolerance but for people who are not opiate naïve doing this helps with breakthrough pain. A 100mcg patch is supposed to release 100mcg every hour for 2-3 days. I have used patches before and they are a pain in the ass. They take almost a whole day to start working and they never last a full 3 days. A 100mcg patch is about 10-12mg of fentanyl altogether depending on the company. 1mg of fentanyl = 50-100mg of morphine with a slightly higher oral bioavailability. If you cut the patch into 1 or 2mg pieces and suck on them, within a half hour they take effect and last for a few hours. For all opioids if you take diphenhydramine (Benadryl or PM pain relievers) an hour or so before you take the painkiller, it stops the enzymes from breaking down which makes the half life longer and basically lengthens the amount of time that the painkiller works. For people who have a tolerance to opioids taking a benzo like Xanax or Ativan or valium enhances the pain relief. Marijuana is also a good and safe way to make opioid medication more effective. When talking to your doctor about which pain medicine they are going to prescribe it is important to know a few things about the medication. Looking at an equianalgesic chart will give you vital information such as the strength, half life and bioavailability. Even though dilaudid is stronger than oxycodone mg for mg, it has a much lower bioavailability. While oxycodone is close to 90%, dilaudid is close to 30% meaning that when taken orally, the given percentages is what you actually absorb into your bloodstream. Drugs like dilaudid, morphine, and opana have very low oral bioavailability. This is why in a hospital setting when they administer dilaudid and morphine it is almost always done through an IV because when this route of administration is used 100% of the drug is absorbed into your bloodstream. When I was in the hospital they had me on PCA dilaudid so every ten minutes I pressed a button and 1mg of dilaudid would be injected into my IV. This was very effective in reducing my pain. In contrast I have taken dilaudid pills which were 8mg and once they took effect did very little to help with my pain. Even though it was the same drug and a higher dose because of the low oral bioavailability it was not effective in reducing my pain. This is why oxycodone is so widely prescribed. It's near 90% oral bioavailability means that it doesn't need to be injected through an IV to give you the same pain relief. Pain killers with relatively high bioavailability are oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, methadone, tramadol and Demerol.

I am a Chronic Pain sufferer... Chronic Migraines AND Chronic Pancreatitis... For those of you who are unfamiliar with Chronic Pancreatitis, the short of it, it's very very painful every second of every minute of every hour of every day....I have used all sorts of opiates from Vicodin to Fentanyl 75mc every 36 hrs (had approval from insurance for 1 yr) I have had numerous compounds done with Morphine-Demerol & dilaudid. I have used Opana 40mgs, Kadian, liquid Morphine, along with Benzos-Valium/Diazepam-Ativan & Xanax...I am now currently on Oxycodone IR and Oxycotin (which absolutely SUCKS) with all that said, What is a "Roxy"...???? Thanks for any reply...

There are no certain foods that will fix it but if you lay down flat on your back for about 15-30 that should greatly reduce the nausea. Also you could ask your doctor for a prescription of promethazine aka phenergan. which is an antihistamine that is used to treat nausea and has a synergistic effect with opiate based narcotic pain medicine. Just watch out because they also increase the effects of the oxycodone and can make you quite tired. Be safe and get better my friend!

I came on here to find some answers and all I see our people preaching and putting people Down. Nobody seems to answer the Q that was originally posted. I like a lot of people were looking for the IR so I would take nibbles of the pill. Not trying to OD or get out of it high. And I simply want to know if u can still do that with the new OP???? Not here to judge anyone's life I just want honest answers and without anyone judging me. God bless.

YYYAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!! I sooo agree!! If there are soldiers out there hurting and they need pain meds, they should be given as many and as often as they ask!!!! U GUYS ROCK THE WORLD AND DESERVE TO BE SURROUNDED BY NEVER ENDING LOVE AND CARE!!!! Im sick also and pain is a never ending companion!! Ive tried them all and while oxys -n-k-8's feel GREAT! they have a....failing!!! I used to wake up in the am crying like a baby, would sit rocking thinking "they'll work in bout 15 min.!!!" found the answer tho!!! Duragesic patches!!! but sometimes I can forget for awhile that my life is controlled by pain!!

Don't forget to ask about ZoHydro. Even with the new formulation that sort of mimics OP80, it is ridiculously powerful even though it's hydrocodone rather than oxycodone ER. Obviously Roxicodone is the premiere killer of pain but it's also a flag when requested by a patient that abuse is a high possibility.

Seriously though, inquire about ZoHydro, it may give you some of your life back.
