That is exactly what I'm doing now. I have the 12s and 10 milligrams Vicodin with 2 mg lorazepam. I have been on the patch for 1 1/2 years. My symptoms seem to get worse everyday I'm comfortable I just don't feel like like me. How long does it last?

I have been on 25 mg Fentanyl for 3 weeks due to radiation in my throat. It's healed and I need to get off the patch. I'd rather not go to 12.5 since I really don't need it. Can I manage w Xanax since I wasn't on it too long. These posts are a little frightening.

Been on 12.5 for 4 months. Was on 25 for a year. Dr will not give me anything to help taper off. I'm so peed off. I try to run the patches out 4-5 days, but what's the sense. You just slap another one on. This stuff is wicked! I'm going to my Primary Care Thursday to get help because the pain mgmt doctor is all about money,!

If you have a ridiculously high dosage of Xanax yes it will help as anything that puts you out your mind will help. If your on one of the more regular dosages... No not if it is only enough to stop a small panic attack. You'd also be taking it rather often as withdrawal is all day period!

As long as your patch is not the type that is filled with a liquid gel (very easy to tell this) then you can cut your patch to reduce the amount. They also last 4.5-7 days not 3 this is easily identifiably by the fact that most brands tell you the total amount of mg or mcg in the patch and it is far more than 3 days worth. Problem is less and less goes into your system as it wears off which is why they have you pull it before that becomes an issue.

So cut them and use them till you notice the withdrawal. Eventually it will be an entire week and at that point your probably good. Imodium AD is an opiate that does not pass the blood brain barrier. It does however attach to your G.I. tract. It can aid in easing the withdrawal effects. Google Imodium AD withdrawal read several pages of info so you can separate fact from fiction. Bottom line you don't feel high it prob doesn't help a lot or any with anything but diarrhea which is one of the most disabling effects of withdrawal.

If you need help making patches stick 3M makes tachaderm patches that go over IV sites to keep them clean. They are sold at drug stores as bandage waterproofing patches. Expensive from the drug store... Affordable if ordered from a medical supply. Free if your Dr will give you some every visit. Need 10 a month.

Unless the brand is Watson (or any other liquid/gel patch) you can cut the patch. The gel patches are very easy to spot they are a bubble patch with a pocket that has air and an alcohol based sticky gel. They leave a horrible thick residue that must be picked and scrubbed off. They also only have the adhesive around the edge.

If you cut them they spill obviously. If you don't have those then cut your patches in half or thirds. At first put one on after 4.5-5 days of the old patch. Remove the old patch after 2 more days. Don't replace the cut patch for 4.5-5 days or if you don't have to work don't replace it till you feel back, knee, joint, muscle discomfort or restlessness (usually the first symptoms). If you are careful you can totally avoid the worst symptom (diarrhea). If you need you can google Imodium AD withdrawal. Plenty of explanations how you can use Imodium AD to at least ease one and possibly other symptoms since it is an opioid that doesn't pass the blood brain barrier. In other words doesn't make you feel high and won't ease your pain. It obviously won't help or won't help much with most symptoms. Some say it helps more than just the diarrhea... That is questionable at best.

Good luck

Someone please help me, I've ran out of my fentanyl patches due to the Hosp running me short when they did EKG with those stickers they put on you. Its been 4 days an now I'm told my new RX needs presurgical on them an can take up to 72 hrs. I'm losing it! I've been puking, sweating, twitching an not sleeping. Last time this happened I had grand mall seizures. I'm so miserable an the pain I'm giving them for has intencified. What more am I to expect I can't take much more.

Fentanyl patch. 100mcgm is" 0.1 mg per hr".! CVS pharmacy. SO you see even at 80 x that of morphine it's only 8mg per/hr. In theory 64 mg in 8/hrs. 125 mcgm detoxes in 72hrs. With residual detox over 2 to 3 weeks. Forced water hydration will clear it out faster. Don't sweat it people, UA's are not reliable, blood serum has to be done to pin it down, do not be faked otherwise. Who is going to shell out bucks for a specific opiate diagnostic any way, not many, not even the military!!! Good luck.

The mylan patches can be cut! Of course you should talk to your MD. The medicine is incorporated in the patch adhesive, so no leaks. The protocol is not to change a patch more than "6mcgm's" in " 6days". And withdrawal will be negligible, however, below 6mcgm total the medicine does not release well! Good luck

If you have the Mylan patch you may take a 12mc and half it to aa 6mc for 6days this will minimize withdrawl . 25mc is only .025mg, 12mc is .0125mg ,
6mc is just .0063mg of medicine per hour. Even at 80x stronger than morphine all are less than 2mg per hour, with your benzodiazapine I would not worry, do not set off anxiety withdrawal, OK. Good luck.

Anyone needing this info. If you need to get a patch to adhere better, any pharmacy carries the poly/breathable tape, air passes through it so the patch will function. Johnson and Johnson. In first aide. it is quite frequent for MD's to do a 48hr change on a patch, just ask the MD who does your meds. Good luck.

Any good pharmacist will tell you not to do that because it still bleeds thru and releases faster. Anyone reading this, PLEASE , do not cut your patches up! I just got off my patches one week ago (12.5) after being on them for 4 months. Minimal withdrawals. All I did was wear each patch for up to 5 days if possible. After doing that for a couple of weeks, I decided that was it! Yes...I am having very minimal side effects, but nothing that I can't handle. If you are as adamant as I am, you can do it. Of course.....Mine is not drug dependency, (by choice) I have a lot of neck and back pain. My choice is to not take pain meds any longer.
Please....ask a pharmacist that you trust to tell you the right way to take your meds about splitting your patches. DO NOT DO THIS!

I am at the almost 1 month mark and still experiencing insomnia, leg and back pain and on rare occasion, creepy crawlies and sweats. My Dr said it could be 3-6 months before my body completely readjusts.

Never use Lyrica unless you plan on never stopping. I took it for 3 months for ulnar nerve pain until I was able to get an operation and it took me four months of weaning off of it 25mg at a time in two week successions. Lyrica can cause permanent brain damage. I quit completely six months ago and I can count on one hand how many days I have not felt like I had a mild case of the flu. Lyrica is poison - google Lyrica withdrawal before ever putting it in your mouth. I too suffer with chronic pain (occipital neuralgia) and am looking for an answer for pain relief, but I assure you, Lyrica is not it.

That is exactly what is happening with me. I am being weaned from a 25 patch to a 12.5 & my Pain Management thinks it is no big deal. I had to get my PCP to take me off work. I can't sleep & the diarrhea is bad. Anyone know of anything to make this easier?

I have been on 100 mcg for years about 6 yrs now. Plus taking 6, 4 mg dilaudid a day I wanted off. I had to go in for a major surgery and absolutely nothing they did could help my pain it was off the hook. I have to have another major surgery in the next year or two so I told my doctor to put me in pain management cuz I WANTED OFF before that surgery so I never have to go through that amount of pain again. They have got me down to 50 mcg in a matter of a month and zero withdrawals. But then again I'm still on the dilaudid and I've been taking valium for over 30 years no change with that yet. I have a bone disease I was born with called osteogenesis imperfecta it will never get better only worse as I get older. That's why the doctors don't gripe or hold out on me. They know I will be in pain for the rest of my life so just make me comfortable I guess. No I'm not dying the bone disease makes me break bones real easy and tear ligaments so now I've had about 50 broken bones and bad arthritis in every break some days I can't get out of bed no matter how many pills I take so just lay hear and suffer. Oh well know anyone that needs pills? I've got a lot! J/K!

I was on 150mgs of the fentanyl patch and it took just over a month to get off of it, I do not advise going cold turkey as the withdrawal symptoms are horrible. I went down in 12mcg and stated hydromorphein , but if it's any help there is light at the end of all the withdrawal I feel so much better and have so much more energy it's a long road but is worth getting off of..... I'd never recommend the fentynal patch to anyone, it is the worst thing to get off of and the pain management is not worth it

They also had me on Lyrica & when I told them it wasn't working, they stopped me cold turkey! I missed 2 weeks of work from the withdrawal symptoms! Unless you intend to stay on this medication, do not start taking it & if you are taking it & plan on getting off it, please wean off it!
