How Long Does 600 Mg Amitriptlyne Stay In Your System

My sister is in the hospital due to an overdose of Amitriptlyne. She had been taking 300mg for more than 25 years. She is now diabetic so her kidneys are not excreting the dosage like it should. Therefore when the blood level came back it was equal to 600mg. Therefore the doctors had no choice but to cut her off cold. She is very combative and screaming etc. How long will this last?

Its hard to say whether or not she may be experiencing withdrawal symptoms from going cold turkey off the pill, or if the cognitive symptoms are simply from having too much serotonin.

Amitriptyline has an average half-life of 15 hours.

Half-life here means that, say, 15 hours after ingesting Amitriptyline, half of the active amount will be gone. This doesn't mean that 15 hours later, though, the other half will be gone. At that point half of the remainder will be gone, then another half after the same time interval, and so on, until the drug is eliminated from the body.

It's come to my knowledge that many experts agree that after about 5 half-lives, the drug is for the most part eliminated from your body. This factor is also dependent upon the dosage taken, so in some cases, such as in an overdose, it may take longer than anticipated.
