This is been discussed multiple times on many boards, you do not have to wait. I've had surgeries after being on Suboxone anesthesiologist of told me precipitated withdrawal is our bulls*** that what they are is simply not enough Suboxone on board to fill the opiate receptors and that you're simply experiencing regular withdrawal. I've gone back-and-forth many times and everyone I know on Suboxone has as well no one has experienced precipitated withdrawal's once. when I felt like I was still withdrawing while on Suboxone the pain management doctor told me it's simply because the 8 mg was not enough and to take another eight or another four but precipitated withdrawal is total BS!!! If u feel wd after taking an opiate it's because you did not take up Suboxone and opiates can be taken safely with Suboxone as explained by the anesthesiologist. it's not a problem. I don't know why Suboxone manufactures perpetuate the Smith maybe they want people completely miserable in total full on withdrawal so then a little bit of Suboxone will save them! But I've been on a high dose of opiates and will take sub at the next scheduled time four hours later totally fine! Try it if you don't believe me and if you start to deal with withdrawl you take another sub and you'll be fine. it's just regular withdrawal under treated by one strip or pill of Suboxone is not precipitated! Just my opinion and the opinion of about 95% of sub patients!! If going from sub to ops you may not feel as much opiate response but you won't have WD either! So if subs and opiates were mutually exclusive it would work in both directions. I really think it's marketing bulls*** because sub is supposed to take you off opiates but many opiate patients take sub as a stoppage measure. If having problems filling, finding their scripts, etc. Just an opinion, clearly not medical advice. Do whatever works for you!!!

Your only supposed to take subutex by itself and no other opiod with it. It's supposed to be used to help you stay off other pain pills as well as giving u pain relive. I'm shocked at an idot doctor that would give both at the same time. So don't do it you won't feel the other. When I broke my neck my doc took me off the subutex or suboxone and gave me something else norco 10mg. I had no problems now I'm back on the subutex I have been on this for over 6 months with no problems never had a withdrawal while on it. It's doctors like that that make it hard on all of us who need meds

You would be dead if you took 600mg of MS Contin. This is the long acting Morphine and remains in your system longer. Be real and not brag and make up some amount.

Merekai you are one of the first people I have seen posted on this site with correct information. Taking Suboxone for the right reasons. Suboxone is made to block some of the opiates in medication. So it would make not make any sense to take another opiate with it. Like you said if your buying them through other means your wasting your money. God speed with you in your recovery.

Your not in withdraws just two hours after taking your pill. The medication is still in your system. So it's not medical possible to be withdrawn.

You said because Suboxone is supposed to take you off opiates but opiate patients take Suboxone as stoppage measure. Is this not saying the same thing. Most patients take Suboxone if taken corrective to help with their addiction. Not to feel high! No reputable doctor would tell you that it was safe to take Suboxone with other opiates. Why would you be going back and forth between the two? I know my pain management doctor would never give me both. These meds suppress the respiratory system so you should be careful mixing the two.

Ive never heard of any dr prescribing Both; however, i was on sub when had emergency surgery & anesthialogist said "not a prob" & at that time was newbie to sub so had alll the paranoia about "precip" wd & he said total bs but anes/& post op meds would be adjusted/temp increased from normal protocol to account for the long happy life of sob which would block some of backs of the anesthia/post op med etc people do need to be honest with their doctors and with their situations I don't think all doctors or pharmacist however are honest with their patients or dont fully understand Saab except what the marketing and courses teach them & teach them to "tell patients" ...it does seem strange to use one op or partial op to get off another... But I think it's longer half-life stops truly addicted people from "feining" every 4 hours & def helps physical wd. Never heard of a doctor prescribing both !

I would say definitely not. Any informed Dr would tell you that if you have either one in your body at the same time it will immediately throw you into acute withdrawal. Trust me it's happened to me twice. Once I thought I was gonna die. I was on oxycodone and took subs before all the oxy was out of my body and I was experiencing full withdrawal symptoms. It through me into immediate and far more severe withdrawal than if I had waited. Do not play with that without knowing the facts. You will pay severely and painfully.

Til you feel like you are not well. I did that too when I was taking Suboxone it's not a good idea to take opiates very often if you don't want to go through withdrawals anymore. I still if I can find any pain killers will take a few and then stop. I can't find any opiates around anymore where I live. I guess
that's a double edged sword.

Hurting or withdrawaling? Sub wont help pain a 40 op wouldn't help!
If u withdrawal ur going to "waste" both...you can take sub prec wd is bs...but better have full script of sub because 1?wont be enough to overcome wd! Esp if u already wd on a long acting med!!!

Well there here where I live and what do keep talking about withdrawals?? I have been on subutex for 6 months and when I have sever pain I'll take a norco 10 after it helps no withdrawals. I have worked in the medical field . So I'm confused how could subutex and another pain reliver could cause withdrawal. I would not recommend it. You only have withdraws if you run out of your meds and don't have any. I don't get it

Yes you are so right!!! If you're only taking oxycodone or vicodin, it's good to wait at least 9 hrs before taking a piece of suboxone!!

Matthew, If you read alllll the sub literature-marketing propaganda & some drs say If you are Not like 3 Days into opiate wd, then magically sub (taken "too soon") will cause a "special withdrawal" called "precipitated" wd...and the logic by extension is that if someone is on sub & then takes an op, that they will then spiral into this magical hell of precipitated wd! Thereby making sub & op mutually exclusive....that is why all the ignorant questions exist about "how soon can i take an op". But kudos to you if you've never had a pharmacy issue or any shortage or simply started sub but had unbearable pain & needed to return to ops....But OF COURSE these people are asking because they are ping ponging back & forth! But to answer it again for all the new readers--precipated wd is total bs...coming off ops u can taken sub immediately (if u feel like u r still in wd ITS BECAUSE U NEED MORE SUB & its just the regular wd not fully suppressed!) if u are on sub full-time & have pain u can take ops (just like when i had surgery the anesthesiologist said sub? Precip wd? ...laughed at the ignorance of believing that!...ur op may not feel as strong.... These are just my opinions based upon experience & medical advice & everyone i know who has long term experience with sub...everyone needs to do what is right for them!

It will be hell!! It happened to me because my DOCTOR said it was safe since 24 hours had passed!! I was only on hydrocodone for 2weeks after an oral tissue graft with complications from the harvest site. Anyway, my doctor said if it's been 24 hours go ahead and start. I had never gone through any major withdrawal but I was seizing!! I was sent to the ER (thanks to my hubby who left work as I was frantic at home with my two little girls!!) and I don't even remember getting there. I do remember crying to the doctor saying "why is this happening?!!" My medication was purely naloxone (just to help me stop drinking) but that's in subs. Anyway, I woke up 2 days later. Most horrific and embarrassing situation I've ever dealt with. Be careful people!! Maybe my metabolism is slower and that's why... but I'm in good shape (although that's not a sure thing).

I've taken Percocet for one day - you don't withdraw after one day

Read this now. Please. It made me change my life! There's a video I watched once. The video explained that because of lab evaluations on rats in the 1970s, we have an oversimplified, incorrect framework of how addiction works. These diagnostics showed that if we give a rat the choice between plain water OR water spiked with coke, they’ll choose coke every time until they eventually drink themselves to death. This was repeated time and time again. Because of this, we assume that DRUGS are what cause addiction. You take opiates for 20 days, and the chemical changes cause your body to NEED this drug in order to avoid withdrawal. This is true… but it’s only half the story. If you break your hip, you’ll be given LOADS of high quality, pure opiates in a hospital in the form of morphine. So why don’t hospital stays cause the same exact addiction? Turns out, there was a problem with the rat evaluations. A researcher came forward and pointed out that the original rat given the choice of coke-laced water was in an empty cage all alone. He redesigned the study to include an experimental group called “Rat Park,” where the rat’s cage was FILLED with creature comforts: colored balls and toys for stimulation, tunnels, friends, and a mate to have intimacy with. Guess what? The rats in Rat Park hardly ever used the drugged water. NONE overdosed. Is this unique to rats? An accidental human experiment suggests otherwise.

During the Vietnam War, 20% of American troops were taking opiates. Why not? They were in a horrific jungle in a foreign country forced to kill or be killed. Just like the lonely rat in the empty cage, they had nothing else. Americans panicked thinking 100s of thousands of junkies would come back. Except they didn’t. The troops came back alright, but a phenomenon happened - no rehab, no withdrawal… 95% just STOPPED the drug altogether. “It’s not the chemicals, it’s your cage.” Human beings have an innate need to bond and connect. When we are happy and healthy, in positive environments, exposed to color and LIFE — we bond with the people & nature around us. When we can’t bond, because we’re traumatized, isolated, depressed, or trapped in a “cage”-like environment we feel we can’t escape, we’ll bond with SOMETHING that gives us relief. That may be alcohol at 5pm when we leave our 9-5 hamster wheels. That may be junk food when we feel alone and trapped in a body we hate. It could be endlessly checking our smartphones, pornography, video games, or drugs. Whatever it is, we WILL bond with something because that is our nature. Addiction is just one symptom of the crisis of disconnection that's happening all around us. “It’s not the chemicals, it’s your cage.”

I can’t blame America for craving unhealthy, processed food. We are removed from our natural habitats. We stare at concrete walls all day. Removing ourselves from nature has quieted our instincts and makes it so much harder to listen to what our bodies truly want. When you get outside into fresh air and BOND with NATURE instead of man-made materials, it’s so much easier to know when your body wants to sleep, how much, and what you want to eat. So if you’re in a cage right now, work on changing it slowly every day. Make time for nature. Make time for green grass and human BEing instead of human DOing. The way out of unhealthy bonds is to create healthy ones; go for a walk in the woods with people you WANT to be present with and connect. You will want more of what’s good, and less of what’s bad… effortlessly. Instead of forcing yourself to change your diet, change your environment and the diet falls into place. The happier you are, the healthier your choices will be, and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.
