How Long Can I Take Meloxicam Safely

I have taken Meloxicam for two years and am worried about long lasting effects from long term use. Any info you can share with me?

Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, so long term use of it may cause damage to your stomach and/or your liver.

They've also been known to cause fluid retention and elevated blood pressure with long-term use.

Do you see your doctor regularly? Do they do blood tests, such as a liver panel?

I had taken meloxicam for about a year and wow i sure got relief of my osteoarthritis (severe all joints affected), also diagnosed with fibromylgia, I began to have stomach burning ...then ulcer..then bleeding ulcer and the lining to my stomach is in bad shape. I had also been taking protonix and carafate all while on meloxicam. I was told by gastroentrologist i had to stop meloxican right away. I did and due to my stomach condition I am not able to take any alternative / like drug such as celebrex...I am in so much pain i want to actually die I took steroids for a week and had 4 days relief but that crap messes me up and my pain was 10 fold coming off...I did not realize how much the meloxicam was working till i had to quit.

Have been taking meloxicam for 6 months. Its working for my pain, but this past mth I am having alot of numbing in my hands and feet. Anyone else having this?

I have been on Meloxicam for over 5 years. It has really helped my back. For some reason my Dr's office never scheduled another appt so I thought I was all set because I had no pain. The office called me recently & I went in and my Dr did not want me to take it any more since I have used it for over 5 years. He wanted me to try a Gel, which was not effective for me. I get blood work all the time because I also have MS. I want to know if there is anything out there that is safer than Meloxicam and as good as it is!!??
