Hole In An Artery Close To Heart.
UpdatedMy brother in law has had triple bypass surgery a year ago. Now he's having issues and the diagnostics don't show another blockage... says the bypasses are in good shape but he has a small hole in an artery close to his heart. They sent him home on Isosorbide MN ER30. He's having terrible headaches which I understand are a side effect. But, I can't find anything that says this will help the hole in the artery. How will this help?

Hello, Abby! How are you?
According the FDA, Isosorbide is a nitrate, so it dilates blood vessels, making it easier for blood to flow, so the heart doesn't have to work as hard.
With such a defect, maintaining proper heart function is a priority, because if his heart got sluggish, so to speak, the platelets could kind of amass at a problematic area and cause a clot that might result in a heart attack, or other cardiac injury. Thus, medication is basically a preventative.
Other side effects listed to this medication include nausea, dizziness and skin redness.
Is there anything else I can help with?
